Hey all! Since watermelon is the greatest fruit in the world, I decided to try my hand at making a set. These will be PBT with colored dyesubs. Any suggestions or criticism is greatly appreciated.

Renders:

Poll:
https://www.massdrop.com/vote/-IC-Watermelon-PBT-DSA-set

Base Kit:
Gorton Modified font
WFJ base with RCL dyesub
RCL base with RCM dyesub
VCA base with VCD dyesub

Note: Since there's been a few requests for pink alphas, I'll leave the below image here also. If there's enough interest, I can separate the alphas from modifiers, so there can be options for white or pink alphas. Biggest concern is that it will need to reach minimum order quantity. However, I don't plan on have multiple modifiers kits, as I want to have as little amount of kits as necessary.

Novelties:
RCL base with black watermelon seeds
VCA base with VCD watermelon rinds

Additional Novelties:
Everything is up in the air, but depending on interest, some of these can be added into the current novelties kit, or combined into a separate one.

Adapter Kit:

ISO Kit:

Numpad Kit:

Mockups:

Q & A:

Q: Where would this group buy be run?
A: Undecided, but open to suggestions.

Q: Why not ABS?
A: Wasn't a huge fan of the colors. PBT colors fit this set much better.

Q: Where is the [something] kit?
A: I'm open to making more kits if there is enough interest.

Q: Why the pastel colors?
A: I personally prefer the pastels and also think there aren't enough kits currently that are more subtle.

Q: Why are the alphas white and not pink?
A: I wanted a keyset that was more subtle and inspired by the aesthetic of watermelon, rather than one that just illustrates a watermelon slice.

Poll:
tomboy has created a Massdrop poll for people interested in alps.

my girlfriend has just informed me that this will be her first keyset. sooo.... gj *******. looks like my keyboard investments just doubled...

edit: I really do love the novelties on this set. I've always thought novelties were kind of distracting and cluttered looking, but would totes buy these.

This looks awesome! I love the color choices--Reminds of Steven Universe a lil bit. Pretty new to buying keycap sets, but I'd definitely jump on it if it were ever on a GB! :D

Where's tp4?  He likes watermelon.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks all for the interest and positive comments!

Definitely open to any suggestions on novelties for those that feel it may be lacking. I purposely went the minimalist route, so the watermelon theme isn't super blatant.

love the colorway!

will the novelties pack be 2 separate sets?
The plan was to keep 2 separate sets, since I feel most people may not want the 1u caps kit. All the basics are in the first one, but I can combine them if there seems to be equal interest in both.

Ditch the white. Why not making the alphas pink? it gives the wholeness feeling of watermelon.

Thank you! What would you like to see on the 1.5u novelties?

Ditch the white. Why not making the alphas pink? it gives the wholeness feeling of watermelon.

I've been getting this question quite a lot. ;) I purposely strayed away from making the keyset an illustration of a watermelon and went with something more subtle.

Quite a different approach. That set looks awesome, but I prefer something more subtle and less vibrant on my keyboard.

I believe you would just need the base kit and adapter kit.
EDIT: Actually, I just realized the right shift on the fc660m is a 2.25 shift. There isn't a kit with an extra of those.

The watermelon rinds maybe, but pretty much anything works (I'd use them for the thumb keys of the atreus, but they could also work on boards with 1.5 ctrl and alt).

Are there any plans for maybe supporting alps too?

Lookin great but as some folks (me too) want pink alphas why don't do a pink alpha set/kit. It is to much white, if you use the set on a white k-board. If this GB happend, have to get a 550 Paracord Watermelon sleeved USB cable to match the keycaps set.

Well one issue is you can't dyesub white onto pink. Unless you wanted some other color of alpha? I personally like white caps on white keyboards though :)

Sure, I can definitely add some options for 1.5u caps! As for alps, it's possible if there's enough interest.
Edit: Added to initial post!

Will look really well with KeyCollectiv's fruit key caps.

It is one of the very few attempts to have DSA Pbt key caps... and for ALPS!
If I put them on an Infinity 60%, then it will be called "Infinity Watermelon"!  :p
