Needs a CRT for sure. If it wouldn't cost an insane amount in shipping I would offer you my old IBM P76. Pretty sure I have an old 3.5" floppy in my parts box, but I think it has a black or dark grey bezel.

I love desktop cases, but there's really nothing that's desktop, reasonably quiet, and capable of handling the size and heat output of modern gear.  The closest choices are 4U rackmount cases (noisy, don't fit huge heatsinks), HTPC cases which are super-expensive and often incapable of handling full-size gear, or the CoolerMaster HAF XB, which isn't super-quiet either, and is twice the height of a standard desktop case.

I have a nice-looking  PS/2 box (486 I am pretty sure) that probably works fine and would be perfect. It might be really hard to crowbar new gear into it, however. I would love to sell it, complete or empty, but the shipping from Atlanta would probably be prohibitive.

Thanks, it's a great keyboard, TURBO was way before my time! Same with 5.25 floppy drives. I might have a 3.5 floppy coming that I'll retrofit.

I wish I still kept my CRT from back then (I don't even remember what it was), the NEC was its replacement.
Maybe we can work out how much it'll actually cost to ship it, might be worth it I looked up the monitor, surprised that it can do 1600x1200, pretty impressive. What color is it btw?

I noticed this too, desktop cases aren't made anymore except perhaps this case in its black version. There's a major downside to it being that it has 2x 60mm rear exhausts, and 1x 80mm front intake fan spots; hardly an efficient system, but it works for me.

Neat find! It's cheap enough to order one for fun. Seriously though, not sure what would be a good-yet-functional mouse for the build; perhaps I will go with a CST beige trackball, which looks the part, but is not optimal for gaming.

I was thinking that too, but it's not exactly cheap, we'll see! I still prefer to have a mouse, if only there was a modern highperforming optical gaming beige mouse :D not happening.

You have a P76? They were awesome monitors at the time. In fact, I snagged one from our RS/6000 server at work to use on my personal desktop back in 2001 or so hehe.

Like most CRTs, it didn't do its top resolution *comfortably*. 60Hz on a CRT is painful for the eyes. 1280x1024 was its sweet spot.

I do have a Wheelmouse Optical 1.1a lying around...

I also have this cool old optical mouse that came with my Xerox keyboard.  If you're willing to put the work in, it could be fun.  Or you could even swap the internals from a new mouse into an older mouse.

Those are all very good choices, along the the Unicomp one mentioned earlier.

Unfortunately it's pretty expensive, and I am not sure how a trackball would fare for gaming... even light gaming like minecraft.
