[IC] Grabert 60% Keyboard Kit
« on: Sun, 28 February 2021, 22:21:33 »

Grabert is a 60% keyboard kit that features an OLED screen, rotary knob, sandwich mount case, POM switch plate, and a 32-bit microcontroller. Grabert is open source, including its information, design, and build instructions, which are in our GitHub Repo, allowing you all to fork from our design and customize. To support our open source methodology, we chose FreeCAD and KiCAD for design. Grabert can be flashed either with QMK or Keyberon (a Rust firmware).

We (Cam & Yudi) finished our prototype run, but we would still like feedback from people in the keyboard community. If interest is high enough, we would love to work with a handful of people (~10-20) prior to a larger production run (direct feedback in exchange for 25% off the purchase price).

Based on our prototype run and estimates from suppliers, we are expecting to price Grabert at around $125 (subject to change).

If you are interested in Grabert, fill out the following form:

  • OLED Screen
  • Rotary Knob
  • Laser cut acrylic sandwich style case
  • POM/Acetal Switch Plate
  • 4 Layout Options (Split shifts, split backspace, 5 modifiers)
  • STM32F072 32-bit Microcontroller with directly connected pins (No diodes)
  • USB-C
  • MX Style Switches
  • PCB Mount Stabilizers
  • Optional 5 degree sloped foot

GitHub Repo (With Pictures) :

Build guide:

*Note: The kit does not include key caps, switches, stabilizers, or a USB-C cable

**Thank you to the people that contributed their keyboard designs to the open-source community, which inspired Grabert.

This looks great for the price range! Love the design and how its sandwich but filled in, instead of just plate/pcb/bottom layer.

Literally the only thing I would change would be to have a larger OLED, like the one on the Mercutio 40% (128x32). Maybe it just looks super small because the height of the case is fairly tall, but it would be interesting to know the specs.

Look forward to more info!

I don't know why I didn't reply to this thread the first time I saw it, this is sick.

LOVE open source keyboards. Making something that other people can use to learn from deserves two pats on the back.

Knob and oled placement, while not the most aesthetically pleasing, make sense to the hand and eyes and likely keep costs down.
