[IC] K-III
« on: Wed, 15 January 2025, 10:21:27 »

A comfy, fun-to-type-on plateless TKL.

DISCORD IC FORM

Inspiration
I am a fan of plateless boards.
Ever since I got a neo65 and built in in a plateless config,
I found myself typing on it a ton.
And, I also like old cherry boards, which have just the right "reverby" sound when you type on it,
and I tried to replicate it on a modern TKL.

Mounting & Specifications

- double hotdog mount (similar to F1)
- 9 deg typing angle
- 2.1kgs built
- 19.35 adjusted front height

Internal PC weight.
I've tested both PC and brass weights in the proto run,
but decided PC sounded better!

Back profile, with PC DB cover

PCB Layout

Designed by my good friend Bloodyez, solderable 1.6mm.

Sales & Pricing
- February 2025 GB (same time as 818)
- Maybe 10 units(???)
- Three colors: Dark Grey (Powder coat) / Silver Ano / Pink Ano (DDS-E)
- Aiming for $400 - $420, incl. hard case/PCB
- Made by your favorite (overpriced) manufacturer

More
Here's a real life sample of the pink color. Thanks mandowo!

We used a different manu for R0, so the pink is different

Thanks
Thanks to all my friends who joined the R0 run!!! & Hugh for making based video  :thumb:
Also thanks to Bloodyez for making based PCB :nut:

BIG NUT

Edit: I will say that even though the majority of the configurations were of the brass inner weight, the PC inner weight does increase the "roomy"/"booming" sound that James was going for, much more than the brass internal weight.

I think you can compare the differences between the config or the internal PC and internal brass portions of the sound test and come to that conclusion yourselves, however!

And for those that want a variation of sound test that sticks with one mic before switching versus the one above that stays with one config, but switches mics, feel free to check this out. And the review video of the proto units (keep on mind that since it was a proto run, there are design changes with those units versus these IC units).

For example, no PC plate, so those recordings don't really apply to this public run (and no top mount or course, but imo, not a huge loss at all since the board seems to really be tuned for gasket mount).
