Inspiration

The colors and color organization for this set were mainly inspired by the 1995-1996 Volkswagen Harlequin and LEGO BRICKS. But as I started reaching out for feedback on this set, folks mentioned what the set reminded them of. Hopefully, the bold colors will remind you of something too.

(Note: I don’t own any of these images. If you do, and you want me to remove your image, please reach out. These images are used to show keyboard enthusiasts what inspired the creation of this product, and the product is not an attempt to recreate anything in the above photo.)

It may go without saying, but this set is influenced by both GMK Handarbeit and GMK Greg.

Colors

Request for color samples has been submitted to GMK. Samples will be approved before GB launches!

(NovelKey Cream for reference.)

Kits

The kiting methodology used in this set is to provide ample coverage within the base set while keep costs as low as possible. Because this set uses five different colors in a non-standard layout, I have tried to keep the base kit as slim as possible to reduce the cost of the set.

Addon kits such as NorDe, full ISO, Ortho, and maximized 40s kits are often not successful for first-time keycap designers. Because of this, I have opted not to include them. However, as a substitute, I have included basic support to these kits within the base kit.

Base Kit

Base kit features a R1 Yo key, a R4 Yo key, and support for 60, 65, 75, TKL, HHKB, Alice (with spacebars), 1800, Full size, and Minivan 40% keyboards.

Desk Mats

Deskmats are final, and we have sent in order for Samples. Will post pictures when they are in!

CHANGE LOG:

Change 1 (2/16): I am axing the Road deskmat. It is doing very poorly on the IC form. It will be replaced with something busier. Press K to give respects.
Change 2 (3/3): Added Joker inspired deskmat.
Change 3 (3/9): Added Mosaic deskmat.
Change 4 (4/30): Updated IC to reflect current status a bit more. Axed rocket deskmat.
Change 5 (5/3): Added NK_ as lead vendor. Added Alice render. Made small tweaks to IC.
Change 6 (6/1): Added Proto[Typist], Oblotzky Industries, and Daily Clack as proxy vendors. Removed space bar kit. Removed 00. Removed r3 pg up and r4 pg dn. Expanded base kit with accent bars, split bars, and Yo keys.
Change 7 (6/16): Added zFrontier, DeskHero, and iLumKB as proxy vendors.
Change 8 (7/20): I am adjusting Num Lock, Prt Sc, and Scroll Lock to Num, Print, Scroll. Render doesn't reflect this yet.

Change 10 (8/20): Removed shirt.

Determine if there are any IP issues in using the cartoon drawing of the car on desk mat/shirt and using joker pattern.

I'm really impressed. As someone who searches for a harlequin golf to buy a couple times a year I feel I must get in on this. Only thing that makes me sad is 40s losing a lot of the teal. That can be rectified somewhat with the teal spacebar though and 40s in base is always a welcome sight for GMK.

Thanks! I've been going back and forth if I want a Teal spacebar in base. I've literally thought about it for hours lol. If the base kit isn't too expensive, I will add one in.

Very cool, I guess f13 would work but maybe a yellow delete for HHKB layout to keep the color block consistent? Not sure if it would be worth for such a specific case though.

I remember seeing harlequins when they were new and being a child who didn't know what I was looking at wonder why they they didn't get the right colored body panels out of the junkyard. As a VW nerd I appreciate this set, but like the car it is based off of I am not sure I appreciate it enough to buy it. I am gonna keep watching though, who knows.
