I don't think second B is a good fit for base kit, given you'd need bars in addition.
I don't disagree with you on this except in the case that you have a separate spacebars kit. QC-ing spacebars separately from concave alpha keys is a lot easier and might translate to a slightly cheaper spacebars kit vs including the extra B in the spacebars kit.
However if you have spacebars and 40's all in one kit it won't make a difference.
Having minibars but not an extra B is useless. If anything, you could include both alice spacebars and extra B in base. But then you also run into the issue of what to do for the green kit.

I agree with you here. I want to make sure Alice users only need to buy one extra kit to get full compatibility. One of my goals with this set was an expansive base kit that makes UK ISO a first class citizen rather than the more minimal kitting you see (which also has it's perks). However, even trying to be inclusive with the base kit, I feel Alice support would be better off in it's own kit along with other special layouts. Thank you for the great feedback!

Yeah I totally get that. I think that if you decide to do a separate spacebars kit, then you should include the extra B in base (or in 40's which is kinda silly because you'd need TWO B's in that kit, but better than nothing) and leave the spacebars as just spacebars. Including the extra B in base and in the Green kit shouldn't increase costs and would allow easier QC of the spacebars kit separately.

No ISO in the Racing Green kit?
Would you think there's enough interest for a full base kit for it?

I think I just realized what my hang up is with this set with regards to green alphas...
It would be a lot easier to have a full green base set with the white alphas being a separate kit. The white kit could just be alphas and it would work. you wouldn't need to add a numpad and F row keys in there to balance it out since the numpad would match the mods and nav cluster.
That being said, I'm not advocating that it's the right thing to do for this set, I just think that seems like an easier route to take.

GMK Dandy wound up doing two full base sets including Alice support in base for a not terrible price.
GMK Thai Tea also accomplished a dark alphas kit AND included ISO enter and numpad, but they also had a separate spacebars kit with accent spacebars and second b.

One thing that would really sell me on buying the Base set + Green + 40's would be the inclusion of enough keys to cover two full keyboards. So like if there was a novelties set I could use to cover the mods on a 40% and the 40's set had a little better coverage as mentioned previously plus green accent spacebars, I would EASILY buy all the kits to cover 2 boards. That's a huge value add over spending almost as much to cover a single board and having a LOT of plastic leftover. A perfect example of this would be GMK Cafe, which included the novelties and a second Tab in base so you could just buy the second alphas kit and cover two boards. However that set did not include a numpad or ISO enter in base as a result, and I totally understand that is a priority here.

Kind of wish there were gold accents in the 40s kit, but otherwise the kitting looks sweet!

ISO keys will be added to Racing Green kit! ISO support will be fixed in base kit also. The intention is to cover full UK ISO at a minimum.

Very interesting suggestions r.e. Exotic Kit. We may revise the kit before things are finalised. I want this kit to be a really exciting thing for 40% users. Feedback like this is really appreciated.

I would like to urge you to consider the R2 1.75 backspace for the exotic kit.
For staggered 40s the three essential keys for physical compatibility are R3 1.25 tab, R2 1.75 backspace and R3 1.5 enter. If I'm not mistaken you already have R3 1.25 tab and R3 1.5 enter but are missing the backspace.
I'm not aware of any keyboard that uses 1.5 enter that doesn't also use the the 1.75 backspace, so if you want to include one of them the other one should be included also.

I've been peeping the thread waiting for that kit to get updated and didn't even realize that nobody had brought it to your attention lol.

Echoing this point, please add a r2 1.75 backspace!

This key is already in base kit! Look next to ISO enter, unless I'm mistaken

Ciantha hit the nail on the head.
40's kit needs r2 1.75u backspace.

That's 1.5u in the base kit not 1.75u but definitely can see the confusion

I believe the @ / ‘ key is missing from base. This would ironically mean that this kit was missing full ISO-UK keys.

EDIT: Saw your comment above. me dumb.

So are the novelties happening? Seeing a group buy announcement without mentioning them makes me think no....

No novelties? A hubcap novelty, or a series of novelties with a green number in a white circle, like the "7" and "102" in the inspiration pic, would of been dope...
My thoughts exactly. I dig the theme, but what’s the fun in getting a set with no novelties?!

I felt the same way at first, but the more I think about it and look at these renders, the more I think novelties would actually cheapen it. Part of what makes brg the color so special is its classic and timeless simplicity, so keeping this set simple feels appropriate to me.

Don't get me wrong, I really wanna build a cool car themed board with dope novelties (shifter for shift key too on the nose?), but imo that would feel more appropriate on a Ferrari or lambo themed set. (Or a honda set, as a 90s kid I'd be really into a honda set).

I would agree that novelties would cheapen this set, in fact a lot of novelty sets are not needed in my opinion.  That said, what I always look for is a well thought out and executed RAMA or THOCK for example.  This set needs that.

Novelties are optional and not mandatory. If you don't like them you don't get them. Whether or not they are included as a kit for groupbuy does not devalue or 'cheapen' a set. That's just a snobby perspective. Please tuck your pinky finger away lol.
If Lewisflude, the GB runner doesn't want to do novelties that's totally within their rights, as this set is obviously appealing to many people without actually needing them. I'm not a car racing fan so I wouldn't care for the theme related novelties personally, but that doesn't mean I can't see that those who actually do vibe with the theme, are wishful there's a bit more thematic pizazz.

NEVER!
/s

You make a good point and I agree they would not cheapen the `set`. What I should have said was that in my opinion novelties would cheapen the board (specifically the one I want to build with this set). At the end of the day it's all preference after all :) I did not intend to be snobby or gatekeep, was just trying to defend the designer's (apparent?) decision.

At the end of the day, I'd probably buy the novelties if they were added to the set :/

Hey there! Two major updates!

Firstly, originally we said this would run in May. It's now been delayed to June 1st 2021. It'll run for the whole month.

Secondly, I'm proud to reveal the novelties kit designed by the amazing Morgana!

I'm really looking forward to kicking off this project and really appreciate all the support friends, family and strangers have given me in pulling this all together so far. I feel very lucky to have great vendors on board for this. Looking forward to revealing deskmat design, artisan and other collabs in the coming days and weeks.

As always, join our Discord for the most up to date news on GMK British Racing Green and other Hand Engineering projects!

I note that the designer also hasn't made a deskmat design, and given that I only care about the colourway and not the theme that much, I'm in fact going to get this keycap set and match it with this Wave deskmat:

(Yes I'm the groupbuy runner for the deskmat, so I'm being a total shill lol).

Howdy, friend.

It's more than poor form to shill something in another thread. Please don't.
