Meanwhile I'm getting ready to go meet up with another Austin guy to plan our March 11th keyboard meetup. The last one was pretty big, it attracted about 60 people at Das Keyboard. We had some giveaways, it was a good time.

That's separate from Keycon, so if you're around, come on down! We'll be posting about it in the next week or so.

2. I can't show you all the best part of my keyboard collection unless it's local. I can maybe bring one or two boards with me.
3. My recycling facility and vintage keyboard hookups are all here. I can't organize a field trip in Philly.

Other than that, it's a great town, easy to get to, easy to get around in, good food, not super expensive, lots of students. It's how I imagine New York was in like the 1980s.

If it ends up being in Philly and I do end up coming I might be able to work out something special but no promises!

You sound like me.  I've got RHS the first weekend, family second and acen the third so it's gonna be like gambling to see if I get to go as well.

Yeah. But we're still doing our meetups here in Austin and everyone is welcome to come down! I don't see any reason for this to have to be an exclusive event.

If you want to do one big thing in Philly and call it Keycon, sure, but our regular meetups in Austin are pretty awesome. There are giveaways, custom key caps for the events, and with Techshop we have a professional photo booth, CNC wood and metal working, a water jet, powder coating, sand blasting, injection molding, soldering stations, laser cutters... everything you need to build a board from scratch!

So again, come down for March 11th (though the airfares are super high due to SXSW, yikes!) and maybe for our next event in the late summer.

Thanks for the offer! I'm familiar with Wawa, and I think I've had the raspberry tea. Certainly some sandwiches from there. It's got an odd cult following.

Around here Rudy's has good gas station BBQ and breakfast tacos. Also, we have Buc-ee's, which is just a normal highway rest stop store, but huge.

XMIT, I think for exactly the reasons you said, that keycon should be in Philly. The northeast is very much like a group of individual city states, and getting people to come out for small regional meetups is like herding cats. You guys have been successful hosting consistent meetups and will continue to do so regardless of "convention" status.

Although we could just go the Penny Arcade Expo route and have "keycon south"

Alright, looks like the poll has closed.  Should we start brainstorming dates?  Also, I'd love to hear some ideas on events we can plan for the con time.  We have a volunteer for cap casting demo already, any other ideas?  This will give me an idea of how many rooms i need to reserve, if we need more than one.

Really looking forward to this, reasonably new to the community so would like to meet some folks.  And Philly isn't too far from the DC area.
