I just saw reaper's post about receiving a genuine Cherry Corp red escape key, and had a thought.  If the custom Cherry font legends on our moogle kits turn out well, would people be interested in a red escape group buy with a similar Cherry lookalike custom legend?  Perhaps bundled with RGB versions of the ctrl, alt, and shift from this group buy?

Absolutely. I ordered the one in Group Buy 4 but I have no idea how it will look.

Keyboardlover, we could just treat it as a custom key since SP doesn't have the font. Same way this kit is being handled

I would, but you're a little late - I've already got the Esc key that SP sells on their web site, and the RGBs from the leftovers offered from the RGB GB :/

Otherwise, yes, I would have been very interested :P

I wonder if there would be any interest in reproducing the "cherry" key as well, but that might get into copyright issues.

Yeah, it's too bad there is a glut of RGBs right now due to aggiejy's buy.  These would presumably match the Cherry font though.  Maybe just the red escape?

Quote from: keyboardlover;418351
I don't believe SP can do the Cherry Corp font...

Also, the big deal with that key is its thickness and rarity, not the font...

These would be custom legends made to match the Cherry font.  cycloverid's SVG files look pretty good -- we'll should know soon how closely the test run he ordered matches real Cherries.

And for me at least, it is the font.  I have the SP red escape on my Cherry 2-shot board now and it irks me that it doesn't match.

A red escape key would be very cool.

Keep in mind that I didn't actually make a font.  All I made was a set of paths for each key we were using.   It would be extremely easy to make the esc key, though (3 simple letters).  If I don't get around to doing it, someone else with light to moderate knowledge of Adobe Illustrator could pretty easily do it.

Yup.  I'm eager to see how the test keys look.

WOW!  The prototype is already done - cool.

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 27335

I just got this image, so I haven't had time to really nitpick.  But, at first glance I'm happy.

The lines are a little wobbly on the up arrow... but I was expecting minor problems like this (a very minor gripe).

So the SP black is more of a charcoal.  That's a little disheartening.

Or is that not the SP black?

-The up arrow looks a little bit thicker - or possibly the proportions.

-The letter spacing is tighter on the original (this was intentional due to the machining).

-The dot above the i is smaller on the original (I thought this might happen - not a huge deal though).

-The left margin looks a little smaller on the SP key.

-The bars on the f and t are a tiny bit too small - easy tweak.

I mean overall I don't know if I'd even want to risk making any significant changes,  but maybe address a couple minor concerns if even necessary.

More eyes are better than one or two, so let's hear the opinions - the image has been added to the OP for ease.

I also agree that it is good enough. It's close enough for normal use and distance. If you swapped that one out for one of my Cherry Shift keys, I never would've noticed.

If anyone missed out and wants some of the white sets, PM me.  I ordered some and it looks like now I won't get the doubleshots I was hoping for from the DT GB.

I am on the list for two of those sets too. :(

However, I just received a white doubleshot set from this thread (pics are on page 2).  Calavera is selling his if you're still interested in utilizing one of your white moogles.

I saw that, but didn't jump on it because it looks like the layout of that board is the same as the Cherry space saver that I have, so I couldn't use the rshift, del/end/pgdn, or some of the numpad keys even with a moogle kit :(

I've thought about using white alphanumerics w/ black modifiers though...  you think that would look good?

cycloverid, I will see if HoboBob wants one, that still leaves me two sets, so I don't mind at all passing one on.  I'm guessing that if this were to work out, the easiest way to handle it would be that he would pay me for the one set, I'd let you know that he'd done so, and then he'd pay you for shipping it to him?

Sorry to go OT, but this del/end/pgdn incompatibility is something I didn't know about until recently.  Can you explain?

(re: space saver keycaps on a std 104 board) - see here

http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?20990-My-own-anti-otaku-Filco-%28w-modem-burning-pics%29

lookit the first pic; note that Del/End/PgDn are located outside the normal boundaries for keys - in the space between the number row and the f-keys.  They're the right SIZE, but if you put them on a std. 104-key board, they're R4 profile on a space saver, and you'll be putting them on R3, so they will appear higher than the keys around them (backslash/pipe and the R3 of the numpad) - not *real* noticeable, but it ain't perfect.

HongE:  Way ahead of you.  Before I submitted the final guidelines, I gave Melissa a list of 3 changes:

1.  I submitted a slightly tweaked path of the up-arrow.  It's slight, but will be closer to the original.

2.  I asked for a width increase of the t and f bars from the 0.014" cutter to the 0.015" cutter.

3.  I asked for a width increase on the up-arrow from 0.025" to 0.026" or 0.027".  This width is also shared between the windows and menu logos.

Numbers 1 and 2 will be included in the final manufacturing.  Unfortunately, the third request wasn't able to be done.  They are missing cutters between 0.025" and 0.030", so the width will remain the same (0.030" would be way too much).

I was going to include this stuff in a post-mortem post, but this will atleast clear things up for those perfectionists.  Just know that I tried my best to achieve perfection!

Well, I'm glad you went ahead with the changes. I realized that it would only be a minor tweak to the vectors and they could just go ahead with production once they receive your updated file. Unfortunately, these changes are direct responses to only the Shift key. Hopefully the other keys won't have any glaring issues.

Well, the only problems that could happen now are with the SVG files I submitted.  The width of the cutter is the same between all the keys.

I'm pretty confident there won't be any glaring issues.  I do know that all of the text will be perfect, given that the shift text is exactly the way I intended it to look.

If I had the resources to do 2 or 3 more prototypes, I might do it.  But, keep your expectations realistic.  The texture and contours of the keys are already uncontrollably different.

We got em guys!  No glaring flaws at all.

Forgive me if this is a pretty brief post, getting over the flu (wash your keys I guess - sorry!)  Took a really really quick photo:

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 28668

Left 2 keys: Original Cherry grey ( you can see the letter thickness issues here) -- EDIT: Whoops alt key is next to capslock.

Middle : Moogle 2 Grey

Right:  Moogle 2 Black

As I thought, I was matching the thicknesses to the black keys more than the grey... so the letter thicknesses are closer to the blacks.  It doesn't bother me very much at all.  I might have gone a little thick on the lettering overall though.

Conclusion:  Couldn't be happier for a first time attempt here.
