What RCT said.  I'm sure there will be future rounds of moogle kits though.

It seems we've hit a brick wall.  Come on, pre-orderers!  Get us to 50 ANSI Shifts.

I'm still not sure.  I want to get as many orders as possible, obviously, but I don't want people to wait so long that they lose interest or forget about this.  I'm thinking I'll collect money for the orders we have at the current cut-off (25 November), and then if others want to join in afterward they can but they have to pay right then.  We run the risk then of me having to refund some money if we hit another price break.  Not totally sure what the best way to proceed is.

What do you guys think?

Have everyone that signs up pay a deposit of $10 or whatever amount you see fit (if its too low it won't work), then when it's time for production (Janurary) you will collect the rest depending on the price break.

Same goes for everyone that wants in on the buy after the 25th, they will pay the deposit right after they put in the order, but after the 25th if you choose to opt out of the group buy you don't get your deposit back.

Now you won't have to refund anything, and you won't be afraid of people flaking afterwards.

Or you can just make everyone pay upfront :P

A deposit won't really change things, unless you mean to keep it even if they back out. i'll be willing to just pay up front

Yeah I guess this would be alright. We wouldn't get hit as hard if someone changed their mind. The deposit might need to be scaled, though, for those that are ordering very little or a large amount. Heh, this is like US taxes

I'm ok with the deposit idea. Another option: suppose that we reach 50 rgby ansi within the 25th. I believe that another price drop is unlikely after that, so we could pay the full amount. If, on the other hand, a price drop does happen, then we could get an extra keycap instead of money refund. What about this?

I like that idea better than the deposit, I think.  Collecting money from everyone twice seems like a huge hassle.  I'll talk to Melissa on Monday about when we should put the order in for an optimal manufacturing start date.  I think she said the BDH gets in a couple of days before Christmas, so it might be to our advantage to place the order before New Year's.

Maybe I'll just wait until we get 50 ANSI Shifts, and collect payment at that point.  Then others can continue to order up until I place the order, but they'll pay immediately.

Melissa just got back to me.  I need to place the order no later than December 8th for SP to start production first thing after New Year's.  So it seems like the original close date of 25 November needs to hold so we'll have plenty of time for payment collection.  Assuming we hit the order deadline on the 8th, the finished keys should ship to me on or around January 12th.

8 RGBY-ANSIs and/or SHIFT-ANSI to go until the next price break gogogogogogo.

I finally got an answer out of sixty re the colors he used in the Rebel kit.  The answer is "I don't remember". :-|

No matter, since I have sent my color samples off to Biniaris to compare with his Rebel keys.  I'm not saying for sure that we'll change the colors to match, but I'd really like to know what they are since they look so beautiful.

Two items of business.  First, I've decided to adjust the legends for Control, Alt, and right Shift to correct issues from the moogle kits.  The moogle versions, while excellent, are a bit too thick and large.  I'll be scaling them down by 10% and having Melissa use a smaller cutter.  This should result in a noticeably closer match to real Cherry keys.  This will not affect the prices.

The difference can be seen in these images.  In the first image, Cherry keys are flanked by the black and white moogle kit keys.  In the second, the top row is the moogle kit, the middle row is Cherry doubleshots, and the bottom row is Cherry pad printed (second image stolen from jpm804):

The second item is that I might be adjusting the colors slightly, based on intelligence from Biniaris.  I sent him my color samples and he compared them with sixty's Rebel RGBY kit.  Turns out that BDH is the blue he used, but as expected the red and green are slightly different (sixty's are RR and VCS).  sixty's yellow is YBP, which is noticeably darker and more orange than YY.  I'm not sure I like it.  When I get the samples back from Bini I'll make a final decision and let you guys know.

My current feeling is that I'll probably end up keeping our colors.
