Help me pick a 75%
« on: Wed, 11 September 2024, 20:01:18 »
I'm currently stuck deciding what 75% I want to purchase. My budget is ~$350 and I'll be using boba U4T switches with GMK Tiramisu. My main requirement is VIA compatibility. I also prefer exploded layouts, but I'm not too picky when my main objeective is quality.

Right now I'm looking at the mode sonnet and kbd taco. Just want to see what else is out there before I make the big purchase. Thanks in advance!

The Mode Sonnet is certainly a good choice, I don't own one myself, but I have got a Mode Eighty (2022) and an Envoy.
I don't have suggestions for other 75% options, as it's not my preferred layout.

I recommend going for 65% instead, especially if you bind left windows key into FN it is very convenient, I thought I needed F keys and tried smaller layout out of boredom - I will never get anything bigger than 65% again, I think you should just consider this
Your budget is very high, what type of quality are you really looking for? It would make sense to buy the boards you have mentioned if you don't like flex cut pcbs or you already know what type of mounting style you enjoy.
I would buy Womier SK75 personally it is way cheaper and I assume you already have key caps? You can find different plates for it as well if you don't like stock one.
If you really want to stick to your picks that is up to you but I think these days there is not that much difference between "budget" and high end boards, if I were you I'd rather spend that money finding perfect setup of switches/key caps/plates

The Qwertykeys QK75n comes highly recommended by everyone. I haven't tried it out yet but it has a magnetic pcb so no need to use cables.

right now the sonnet is probably your best option, otherwise, if you can wait, Neo (from QK) is coming out with their Neo75 soon

Oh? When is the Neo75 coming out? Do they make blog posts about it?

last time i checked, the neo boards used a qmk firmware, but were not maintained in the qmk_firmware repository on github. this might not matter to most, but if you want to change features like the debouncing, use more than 4 layers (vias limit) or just maintain your keymap as a source file (for version control), then you might want to choose a different option (e.g. the sonnet).

Keychron Q1 Pro offers a flexible and bouncy typing experience. It also supports Bluetooth and has a gasket-mounted case for improved sound and feel

I can't speak to them directly, but Cannonkeys is a reliable vendor and has the MKC75 and Obliterated75.  Worth at least taking a peek.
