Excelent deal on TG3 BL82 aka Deck 82 red led's
« on: Thu, 26 January 2012, 16:05:28 »
http://www.globaltekoutlet.com/TG3-Electronics-BL82-Series-Backlit-Keyboard-p/bl82.htm

-Black switches
-PS/2
-LED's can be powered by just plugging in to the mobo, no need for cable moding and connecting to the PSU with molex
-Price $58 included shipping ( FYI some vendors sells this puppy for $200-$250 new)

I was back and forth talking to the seller asking for the full codes from the keyboard and called TG3 to verify if this model uses 12V LED which will make you mod the cable in order to turn the led's on, but all is good this one uses 5V led's even though its a cops keyboard, the seller told me they are black switches, not the clear ones.

Nice find on a very cool backlit keyboard. It's a shame black switches are so horrible for almost everything :( And I believe the TG3 BL82 is plate mounted, so it makes getting to those switches impossible

Wow!  Good find.  I like typing on the MX blacks.  They're good for ANGRY TYPING.  Maybe that's why they put them into a cop keyboard.

I have one of these. I don't dig black switches, but I love the double shot keycaps. This board also has a rubber splatter guard under the caps, feels a little better when that's removed.

For sure not double shots. They have to be translucent for light to show through.

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 38868[/ATTACH] Sorry bro but your wrong they are doubleshots that will never wear off same as DECK's keyboards. Only difference between this one and the Decks, this one is more heavy duty in construction due to it was made for industrial use such as cops cars, factories, hospitals, shops etc etc etc.

EDIT: BTW they are double shots PBT!!!! not the typical ABS double shots.....

I am sure that can't be right. The coefficient of shrinkage is too much, for almost any legend, the internal stresses would exceed the (low) fracture toughness and crack it long before cooling finished.

I went and looked it up: deck/TG3 uses a multi step process. I searched the wiki for "deck"
http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=All+About+Keys
Quote
Backlit keys on so called "Gaming Keyboards" are generally translucent plastic, then coated, and finally lasered similar to some cell phone keys. Decks use a variety of steps to build their keys. Black key with translucent glued insert with dye sublimation printing.
There's even a picture of the "insert" cut out of it
http://geekhack.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=20154&d=1310047405

This means that it's not "doubleshot" in the traditional sense, and that you WILL wear though the legend with use.

Although it does look like the top is maybe sublimated PBT, which is nice. It'll take a good long while to wear that out.

Ok but the keycap is made out of 2 pieces isnt thats why they are called double shots, 1 piece the exterior cap and 1 piece the interior cap + the the clear inside piece is dyesublimated so that we can see the actual legend, right?

I'm no expert or whatsoever but this does look to me like dyesublimation+doubleshot+outershellkeycap PBT?  I think its pure genious, just my 0.2 cents.
http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:13276

EDIT: TG3/Deck guarantees that keycap legends will "NEVER" wear off,no matter what.

They also have the same profile as SP function row keys, so you can replace any of the 1x keys with novelty key caps and not have odd profile differences.

For all USB Deck products there is a limit of 6 keys + modifier keys (shifts and alts) that can be pressed at any given time and still registered by your computer. This is limited by the USB specification. All Deck Legend PS2 products have full n-key rollover meaning you can press as many keys at the same time as you want and they should all register to your computer without "ghosting" as some call it.

Hmm deck keyboards are 6key rollover, just wonder if this was since it was made by the same parent company.

Easiest way to tell would be to read a review (or look at pictures) and check for diodes.

received it today, feels like a solid board and leds are pretty nice, although the rubber membrane that should play as a liquid protection spillage ask lil bit more force from the black switches and the very light tactile feel that we get from black switches is almost non existents cause of the protective guard. Offcourse its an easy fix to peeps dont like this just remove keys unscrew the screws, open the board and remove the membrane

Errr black switches definately do not have a "light tactile feel"
They are the "heaviest" of the cherry switches and are linear..

Bought one of the ones yjhuoh was selling, pretty excited to receive it.

Would it be possible to replace the LEDS with these: http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/component-leds/aqua-3mm-led-18-degree-viewing-angle-4000-mcd/308/ ???
Not if you want to run them all at their max-rated 100mW. With proper resistors, you should be able to do it a bit dimmer, though.

See, if the board "had" red LED's on it, and you put in those aqua ones, the forward voltage drop is very different, so you may have to adjust the resistance of the current limiting resistors, and also keep it low power enough so that your USB or PS2 port can power it. Those aqua ones are 3.6V!

The stock Led's are rated at 5V and the ones you have in the link require less Volts, so I guess it shouldnt be a problem. Although best would be to call up TG3 and give them all the specs from the Led's and they will tell you for sure if its ok.

BTW why would you go with different LED's? the TG3 leds are superb in brightness and they have plenty of levels of brightness, the highest level of brightness is really bright, and the one thing TG3 LED's have that money cant beat is that they are rated for 20 YEARS !!!! of constant use!!!! if color is not what you want I'm sure Tg3 sells leds in different colors rated same as the red ones or they can tell you where you can buy them elsewhere if you dont want to go trought them.

I would get one too but shipping costs as much as the case itself. Too expensive... :(

Just bought the clear case, sigh $13 shipping...

TG3 gets in tomorrow, case comes in before Friday.  Anticipating a good week.
