If you're willing to take iphone pics, I'll pick it up. Otherwise, I'll wait and pick up one down the road that matches better with my hyperfuse caps.

Awesome, looking forward to them :)

I found someone to take it, but thanks very much for the offer.

Hyperfuse is a tricky one--I've been thinking of ordering some grey dye from the UK to see how it works out, so I'll give it a go and see what happens :)

I meant to send this to pexon a little while back but forgot--but it's a nice example of the kind of subtle text embossing I can do on a black rest:

Sure, I guess you'd both be interested in a full size for the Ducky?
I found something I like for both, so maybe I'll finish up the Year of the Horse and get your opinions on a good colour scheme.
I'm going for a vintage tan/black highlights for the moment.

I am holding off officially taking orders for the ErgoDox until I've got pics/comments in from Binge--but it's going to happen really soon.  :thumb:

If you're brainstorming ideas for a Year of the Dragon rest, I can picture something in a bottle green/vintage leather, like an old club chair:
54425-0

It might be over the top, but crocodile leather comes in a loverly green color as well...
54427-1

Too tacky?

Apologies for the recent silence--have had family visiting this week but am now back to the computer.

Hehe, actually, crocodile is something I can do!  Well, crocodile-embossed veg tan like this https://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/search/searchresults/9151-11.aspx.  Not sure how it would hold up to the forming process, but it would be a fun experiment to try.

I'm also discussing doing a steampunk-patchwork style rest with some exotic leather inlays with a customer.  It's a long term project that's going to require some prototyping, though.

I also got in some new colours:

The grey is crazy, I thought it was discontinued but found some on EBay, it's in a glass bottle and looks like model paint.  That one I am definitely trying on a test piece first.

Some other news:
I may be getting an awesome shipping deal from DHL so shipping is going to get both cheaper and faster than I was previously able to offer.  :)  Apparently I qualify as a small business in the "fashion industry," you fashionable people.

doing engravings for full hand ergodox?

i think that horse on one hand and characters on the other hand would look pretty sweet.

I'm afraid it may be one or the other--although I could probably do the Dragon character on the faux-gator, at least.  Might be a good compromise :)
Next time I put in an order from them, I'll get some of that gator print so I can see how much I can work with it.

Yup, totally doable.  I'm currently stitching up the TKL and will be able to post pics of the finished rest in a day or two, to give you an idea of how the final product looks.

My one concern with full hand size is how it attaches to the acrylic case, if at all--not sure if the Bumpons I include are sufficient for friction, or if something like double-sided tape would be better.  But maybe this is a matter of individual taste for each ErgoDox owner, I guess :)

If you're interested in a rest to go on top of the full hand, send over a PM and we can talk further.

Custom order going out today after a final wax and polish:

I've also made a dye chart this weekend--one photo in outdoor sunlight and one in indoor light, as you get a better idea of the different dimensions to each colour.
These are all full strength dyes, but I've tried to do a streak of lighter colour to give an indication of how they can be diluted to be less dark as well (you can see one example in the Saddle Tan, which I usually layer on at 50%).

How do you feel about that grey dye? I know white is usually terrible to work with. If you're comfortable with it though, I'll be placing an order very soon

I was actually pleasantly surprised with it.  It did take a lot longer to dry than normal dye, but ended up looking very even , so I'd say it's a go  :thumb:

How the freaking heck did i miss this and that awesome updated design ErgoDox rest you made. I put in a order for an ErgoDox rest if its actually possible to get an order in (if not :( ok) Your work looks amazing.

This is my current setup, I'm using those bean bag mouse wrist rests which are causing my hands to sweat and they slide around everywhere ruining the ergonomics.

I have the ergodox tented but not to the point one of your wrist rests wouldn't work. it is worth asking if you could make sloped wrist rests? :D though it sounds like you want to stay with a repeatable design

(if anyone was wondering that has followed me, yes i do have the wooden wrist rest prototype kurplop made but i messed it up bad and its too cold outside to fix, so went back to using this setup which doesn't look as nice. Plus i never liked the fact the wood rest was so huge)

You could just get a full had base plate to set the rest on top of. Then the rests would be at the same tenting as the dox.

Hey, I had seen your wooden rests before and they were really nice, I'd be happy to make some leather ones to act as a replacement!

Regarding the sloped angle--I thought about it today and there's no way for me to do it reliably without having an angled form made out of wood, and I don't have a way of fabricating something like that.  You might be able to get a bit of an angle by using much taller domed bumpons on the one side versus the other, was what I came up with.

I've kind of held off officially opening orders for the ErgoDox rests as I've already got a number of orders to work through, but as long as people are okay with waiting I'm very happy to take them and reserve a spot on the waiting list.  The other holdup was getting metal plates fabricated for the new bottom plates inside, but I just got those paid for today and they will ship to me by the end of the week.

Yeah, that reminds me, I want to test out how well doing something like double-sided tape would hold leather to acrylic for this kind of setup, and whether/how it damages the leather.

I'm willing to wait for sure, It would just be one more thing I'm waiting for on geekhack, The v2 rests you made and sold to binge just look so fantastic and professional.

The slope idea i had probably isn't practical even if you were able to form that because i switch between not tented and tented depending on how i am feeling, i think leaving the rests flat in either configuration would still work fine, trying to stay minimalist and portable so adding in a full hand plate to me would just be too much.

So, I got the laser cut plates in.  I am ultra excited--they are going to add substantial weight to the rests without adding any extra materials costs over all.
The ErgoDox rests are especially going to benefit:

Now that I have them in, I will glue them to my existing moulds to make up the extra space and start forming the next orders (eth0s and sean4star).

You can see how substantial the plate is together with the wooden core:

Given I've got all the parts ready to go, I'm happy to officially take orders for ErgoDox rests from now on :D

Just got my wrist rest and I LOVE it! Thank you so much ;D Gonna go pick up some shelf liner tomorrow to keep this bad boy from slipping around.

Awesome, I am happy that you like it and that shipping worked out great!
I'm looking into unobtrusive non-slip stickers as well.

is it even feasible to add magnets to the wrist rest?

so that it'll be compatible with gaming boards like this:  http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=114&cp_id=11401&cs_id=1140102&p_id=10579&seq=1&format=2

I don't think there'd be a way to incorporate them inside, mostly because of the gap created between the board and the side of the rest by the stitching.

I could stitch some magnets into the stitching itself, externally, and then have some little magnetic "flaps" than then attached to the side of the board, but I'm not sure that would look very good (though they could be at least covered up with some leather)

Since I've started building all new rests with the 2mm stainless steel baseplate, I've decided to do a price cut on existing premade rests in my store.  15%-30% off sale on now :D

Doing one in that faux-gator, in dark green, and fitting in the YotD somehow?  Oh, yessssssss...   :p

So the faux-gator went on sale and I put in an order for some.   :thumb:
I've never tried out green before, so now will be the time.

edit: wow, this is actually pretty cool:

Updated--with the new Massdrop purple set, I have decided to take the plunge and search for my first Clack!

If anyone is in possession of a purple Clack, I'm willing to trade for a custom-made wrist rest of any size/colour/art.  PM me if interested!

First post in artisan forum!

Finals have started, so I'll be pretty quiet on Geekhack for the next little while.
I'm continuing to work on custom orders, but the next few are pretty complex so they are taking longer than average.
I also have a bunch of picture posts I want to make once I have some time to write them up--I'll point to my Making Stuff thread when I do.

For the moment, though, here's a new chart including some colours I ordered in, including the awesome new red:
