I think the set is in pretty good shape otherwise. If not, I'll just switch it out with a nicer one. I tried the paperclip idea, but I couldn't get it hot enough to penetrate the plastic well enough for pulling it out to be successful. As a result, there is now a small dimple in the middle, though that'll probably make drilling it easier. I'm going to check with my Dad to see if he has any tiny drill bits, but if not, I'll send it your way. Thanks!

Well, HUAC, being lead by McCarthy, systematically broke down the film industry for being suspected Communists. I am not familiar with what sparked the concept but once the notion that the film industry could be a hotbed for Communism the House Un-American Actions Committee sprung into action and tried to destroy any Red-influence in Hollywood.

That's the gist of what I got from my research. The spark was the previous communist ties of many influential people in Hollywood, leading to the unjust trials, and in turn, the blacklisting, of the Hollywood 10.

I think most of the blame can go straight to McCarthy for being overly aggressive about the matter. He ended up getting in trouble in the later years for trying to force the issue where it didn't need to be happening.

But they never had to pay any money; all that occurred as a result was specific individuals were blacklisted in the industry.

My personal view of it was that McCarthy was more attention hungry than anything. If you look back at his own career the trials became the most important thing he had ever, and would ever, taken part in and for a major part of it he was the focal point. After awhile the whole Communist aspect seems to be vague and faded and for the most part the Red Scare became a media tool rather than a physical fear held by most Americans.

I contacted the seller to see if he could ship out a couple more. He said it wouldn't be a problem. I may have to cover the shipping, but that's no big deal. To update you guys, I stripped all the boards on Saturday and started to package them. I'll have them all on their way as soon as possible. Unfortunately, one of the two lasered boards was the NIB, sorry for getting your hopes up. My then untrained eye could not discern it. However, it shouldn't hold things up much at all, as he's shipping me replacements, and I'll get the rest out as soon as possible. I ended up with 19 because he shipped me a replacement for the broken set, but I hope you guys  don't mind me shipping that out so you don't have to wait much longer. (You guys being Biniaris, who offered to take it as a salvage set.)

round two is taking orders but has not been started or organized yet.

I'm going to say probably not. Just to update you guys as to the status of round 2: My supplier ran out of boards immediately available. However, he's going to fetch more from the warehouse by the end of the year, and let me know how many he has when he does so. Now that I've made it clear that I am only interested in HPCUS boards, I don't see there being a problem in relation to lasered caps. However, get your orders in early, as if there are not enough sets to go around, I will cut orders starting from the bottom. I'll let you know the definite number of max orders once he gets the number to me.

You can buy mesh laundry bags at the dollar tree and throw these in the dishwasher. I wash 8 sets at a time like this. Although it might be a little overkill if you only have one set, haha. They do come out really clean and you don't have to do any work.

I just put them in a ziploc bag with some dishwashing soap, and shook it around for a few minutes.  Rinsed off all the soap, then wiped them down and let them dry on a towel.  Seems to have done the trick.

An example of what? I've cleaned 40+ sets of caps this way and they usually come out great. Sometimes, if it's really caked on i have to manually clean them.

Also, I use no soap, just hot water.

I dry mine faster by dumping them into a pillowcase, tying off the end, and putting the in the dryer. However, I usually hand wash with dish soap and a sponge like a foxy long-legged housewife from the 50's.
