Title: [Group Buy] MKC Aluminum Spacebar Round 2 (preparing shipping)
Post by: feng on Sat, 29 December 2012, 12:28:37: Hi GHers! Here's the 2nd round of the MKC Aluminum Spacebar.

The aluminum spacebars from the 1st round are sand blasted finished. In the 2nd round, the surface will look shinier than the 1st round. They have been polished more than once, so they look quite shiny.

We have three options for this round:

1) 7x, Cherry Profile, with 3 stems.
2) 6.25x, Cherry Profile, with 6 stems.
3) 6.25x, OEM Profile, with 6 stems.

Four colors are available: Pink, Blue, Orange, and Black.

I'll stop taking orders on February 10th. Most likely the production will get started at the end of January.

$28 for 6.25x spacebar

$30 for 7x spacebar

I'll have about 10 pieces of the red OEM profile w/ 3 stems and shiny finished spacebars for sale when I get back to U.S., but it's not available in this group buy.

4 colors is the best I can do after talking to MKC. He can't provide too many colors unless there's a big order, for example if we can reach 200 pieces which is quite difficult, then I think he can do 5 colors.

Some other colors will be available in the next round. Like Gold, Titanium, and Black.

Lighter green was what I originally asked for, but MKC said it's hard to mix up the accurate color.

Only a few samples have the stark industries logo on, need to ask MKC if he has any leftovers.

Anyway, I'm gonna let blue and pink stay on, so for green and orange, which one do you guys like more?

Hammer is a boss; my (shiny, cherry 6 stem) titanium space bar is great. It doesn't even get as many fingerprints as I expected. If more come out, I'll have to get one in sandblasted for sure.

As far as dropping one, I think that shade of green doesn't look that great, and the orange might match OCKC if the group buy is ever run (I'll do it :p )

Yeah I read that but having never used a Cherry profile spacebar since they're all pretty much offset stems I'd like to look at a side profile to help determine if it has a sharp edge similar to the SP DCS profile spacebar. I don't think it's an out of line request.

I have a few cherry-profile spacebars. Cherry has the bast spacebar, in my opinion, just about perfect. The edge is not sharp at all. (I used to use a reversed spacebar on one of my keyboards 'cause SP spacebars are so sharp. I am pretty sure the people who got SP profile Titanium spacebars no longer have thumbs) So if it,s a faithful reproduction of a cherry spacebar, it'll be great.

Thanks Reaper. I bought one of the bars in the first gb. It does not fit my Ducky Shine. So does that mean its a 7?

Show a pic of the undersides of your Ducky Shine spacebar and the GB1 spacebar side by side then. If the posts are in a non-standard placement, then of course it won't fit. Don't ever just trust that something will fit because someone makes a general statement that it will, and then complain later. Always check the placement on your specific board first, because then you will know for sure.

Let us start over.
When I take off the adjoining keys it fits fine. But I cannot put one of the adjoining keys back on due to space issues.
I just noticed that the left alt key has a defect on the right side that is causing the problem. I filed it down and now the spacebar fits.

Next:)
The Ducky Shine space bar is 4 5/8 measured on the bottom.
And the one I bought in the 1st gb is the same length. So what is the size of the bars from gb1?
So please tell me which boards match the spacebars in this sale. Will either of them fit the Deck Legend? Deck measures 4 1/2 inches. When it says 6.25x what does the x mean?

Check the stabilizer to see if there is a conflict or if it got dislodged or something.

I'm currently using my cherry profile Titanium spacebar with my OEM profile QFR keycaps, and it works really well. The Cherry spacebar is slightly different than the modifiers (Rightly so, I think) Not only does it work well, but it looks about darn perfect, in my opinion.

No picture though. I guess if you want one and no-one else has one, pm me and I'll charge up my camera.

Just to be clear in case someone reads this and uses these dimensions. 1u is exactly 0.75", and almost 19mm (19.05mm to be exact). Not the other way around.

You think it would be possible to make the green like (or very close to) the green in the CCnG set? Maybe it would need to be less shiny? Aint an expert, but it's one of the best looking green I have seen on keycaps, and a pretty popular keycap set too!

If you're assuming he will be flooded with PM's, then you recognize that a lot of people want it. Why would you be against people getting what they want? It's not like they're suggesting to get rid of shiny, so you would still be happy too.

We dropped green and got black because people asked for what they wanted. Did you order a black spacebar?...

This is what happens with "group buys" that don't have interest checks, which is the risk the seller takes. I put "group buys" because there is no tier system for people to try and hit for another discount. It is literally just a sale with no quantity discount, and then a markup on ebay with the extras. This alone I think gives us the right to ask for what we want, then there is the fact that it has already been done (the last round of aluminum spacebars) AND people want it again.

Ummm, I bought two Titaniums which do attract fingerprints but I found when using "Mr.Sheen" (not that 'winning' guy) it actually removes all the prints and you could type on the space-bar for at least a few days without leaving any on the surface.

Hence I don't mind shiny at all. There is always a fix.

My titanium spacebar weighs 17g if that helps.

I plan to get one for my kbt race which according to the geekhack pack chart says 6.25 but I have checked and this has 3 stems. I have previously gotten a red one from round 1(6.25 with 3 stems).

From the options here its either 7 with 3 stems or 6.25 with 6 stems.

So does this means this round of space bar is not compatible with the race or am I seeing things wrong.

yea dude... frosted glass or the "bubble glass" would be great for diffusing the laser, and we could have tiny mirrors in the 4 corners to bounce the laser beam, we can use a single laser beam to light the entire edge...

Maybe I can start shipping tomorrow, since I have no class in the afternoon.

Just talked to MKC, he said he can make some of the light blue spacebars and it shouldn't take that long. I'll soon send out PMs to those who ordered light blue ones, to see if they would like to wait for the production for light blue spacebar, or take the royal blue ones as shown in the pictures.

PLEASE don't harass MKC they have done the impossible in actually colouring the BLUE just the WAY I LIKE IT.

Had it for a few hours now..

The color is more "red" than I expected, towards "salmon" Luckily, I enjoy salmon. But for anyone who was looking for a Yellow-Orange, bright-tangerine, this is not that. :))

The sound on my green spacebar switch, it gives the key a distinct metallic firing pin sounds like I'm pulling a trigger to an Unloaded gun.

The finish is quite good, very smooth.. somewhat anxious, as I don't know how long this would last.

The feel, it's significantly heavier than my regular white pbt space bar... if I put it on a regular blue switch, there's a little sagging, No- noticeble sagging on a Green-switch..

An older-blue-mx switch may have trouble resetting under this much weight.

So, all the Red and Brown people might consider a stiffer spring for their SB switch as well..

My typing rhythm is definitely affected, as the key travels back at a different rate.

The texture is very smooth. I could see this being an issue if you have 'wet thumbs", but visually it's fantastic.

Finally: Mad-rops to Feng and MKC for bringing us such quality KB paraphernalia... :D

Like most SP caps and stabilizer inserts, when it't too loose, use a little piece of tape. I use green painters tape.
If it's too tight, you can poke a screwdriver or knife or something in there to open it up just a little to fit.

aluminum tends to Shatter/crack, especially thin aluminum. careful prying.

Just double checked with MKC, he said those methods should work fine and won't lead to cracks. These aluminum keys are flexible, not fragile.

I did mine with a small pair of pliers to tighten them and the file from fingernail clippers to open the tight ones. The color doesn't exactly go with the red alert set, but whatev.

This is only a problem if you're on standard orientation... Reverse orientation makes the space bar epic smooth...

Very easy solution to your future GF acquisition and that is to find one that is 100% colour blind. She will always see shades of grey no matter what you buy and tell her it's Blue, Green or Yellow in colour. She will never know your supreme Pink fetish ;) .

And there are 3 smaller spots in nearly the same place as the blemish on the one I sent back to you... The one I kept has a single small spot in that same place as well (but it wasn't enough for it to fail my anodizing standards and send back), but at least that one is straight. MKC needs to be notified of the dreadful quality of these spacebars. I think I will try to straighten this SB since the blemish is less than the other one. Do you have any safe ideas of how to do that?

Oh and you said you were going to cover my shipping, so could you just send me a $3 gift payment?

As far as I know those were a special limited edition. Only like 5 were made in red. They go for like 100$ in the classified section.

I want one too, because they look awesome, but not for that price...

It's probably not the monitor, it's probably just me :D I have poor sense for colors, maybe i'm even color-blind. Many people said that i confuse colors :D
