Maybe they somehow figured out how to get backlighting to show through their Dyesub thick PBT caps :p
If only..
What do I think? I think they are screwing retailers over...
I feel bad for ShakeR; they still have Ducky Shine I's still in inventory and just loaded up on Shine II's.
The Shine 3 might get the improved stabilizers from the Zero?
do shine II's come with costar stabs?
do shine II's come with costar stabs?
do shine II's come with costar stabs?
You don't want Costar and backlit. The wire tends to bind on the LED during typing.
It's really annoying and is the reason I don't have LEDs on my Costar stabilized poker
Have you tried the new improved stabilizers, dante? Honestly, the ones on the Shine II feel fine IMO.

I have not personally tried them; But several translated Chinese reviews have said that while they still feel like Cherry stabilizers they feel more uniform and not as heavy.

I'm not saying it is but I am going to say they've been teasing double-shot PBTs for backlit keyboards.
But wait: I thought Ducky was Costar-style wire stabilizers and not Cherry?
Oh, and maybe they'll fix the completely bat&*@#$ insane and moronic Fn layer layout from the DK9008G2. What complete and utter twit came up with that, anyway? Play/Pause at F4, Stop at F5, NEXT at F6 and PREV at F7. With FN on the right. The level of fail there is just inexcusable.
Hmmm, I wonder what they will improve upon. I think the Ducky 2 was pretty great, though I am not a big fan of backlit keyboards. It is little more than a glowing distraction when in use, but it also looks kinda cool imo.

I agree. Originally I wanted one, however the Ducky I wanted was hard to get a hold of so I ended up getting a Filco. Never looked back! I convinced myself that the LEDs were a distraction...LOL
Shine 3 cheaper than Shine 2 according to NCIX preorder.

2108S is the backlit Zero.
yay more reasons to spend money!
Iv actually been thinking of buying a shine 2, guess i will just wait for this now :D
why does the zero have better stabs than the shine II? its a cheaper board!

I just bought 2 Ducky's in the last 3 months! Now I'll have to upgrade already! :p
When will this come out? I want to pull the trigger on a Shine 2. I'm still using rubber dome :(
I'm mainly hoping on more switch choices again. I'd love to see Green MX, White MX, and maybe even some variable keyboards. Plus, with Rosewill coming out with a dual LED per switch keyboard (I think on the WASD and arrow keys), Ducky might be able to one up them and allow a keyboard that will have two color options. Now that'd be cool.
Seriously? LOL! I don't know if they're cancelling plans for the Shine 3 but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

They're keeping silent because they don't want people to simply stop buying their current products by waiting for the III.
Looks like I should wait for this instead of getting the Shine 2? My Shine 1 is still holding on fine, may have to get rid of that first :DYeah I'm trying to wait it out as well. Welcome to Geekhack by the way!! And congrats on first post!
I'm wondering whether PCCG are allowing their stock of Shine IIs to deplete in anticipation of the Shine 3. Items are gradually disappearing from their online store as they run out of stock.

Only if they make a green switch version :(
Also, those forest green keycaps on the back left board? hmm
That girl is Skinny... mm.. hm...
Is there PBT caps for backlit keyboards?
Only if they make a green switch version :(
It's not impossible because I did own their Limited Edition Greens at one point. They also provided me the opportunity to own a Clear switch keyboard too. Ducky has been the company that has provided me with every switch that I have wanted to try up to now (Green and Clear). If anyone will deliver, it'll be Ducky.
Is there PBT caps for backlit keyboards?
Deck ^_^
My ideal next keyboard would be a Ducky Shine TKL with that brushed aluminum case, MX Clears, and some nice amber backlight. Come on, Ducky, make this happen!
Might have been limited edition, or promotional only.
CM did that with a white case that has not yet seen the light of day.
Shine 3 is rumoured to be cheaper than Shine 2 - can't see how they would achieve that with a metal case.

Is Zero shine somehow has lower quality?
The thick PBT Duckies that are coming out soon are not very expensive vs other offerings-- on par with Shine IIs. My problem is impatience. Unless they gives word of when these will be released and with what switches, I'll get something else sooner. Same with CM, who can't give an estimate for when QFR with Clears will be out for sale.

I wouldn't say that it's lower quality but it will definitely have less custom light settings and will have only one color setting. The thick PBT Duckies that are coming out soon are not very expensive vs other offerings-- on par with Shine IIs. I'd definitely go Thick PBT over backlit any day but that's just me :P The feel is more important for me than the looks.
Cheaper? Really? Interesting because I totally assumed it'd be more expensive with the Zero shine being slightly cheaper than Shine II... I am so confused at what they're doing... my logic skills are going bonkers here. Them Chinese are so crazy, man.

"One color setting"? Does that mean one level of brightness or?
Shine 3: Color space bar lighting effect
The space bar is backlit by red, green and blue LEDs. Colors are individually adjustable to combine into your favorite colors. The on-board memory can store up to 9 sets of customized settings to suit your moods.
The spacebar doesn't bother me so much I guess. So not sure if i'll go for a Shine II or Shine III. Gonna be a tough decision.

How do people have the option? I've tried finding a Shine 2 brown with white or blue backlight (US) and they're sold out everywhere. For me, my decision is the Shine III based purely on availability. Maybe I just don't know where to look. :-[
THe Shine3 looks really nice and those PBT keys are really slick!
"... customized settings to suit your moods" - I enjoy the feeling when they say things like this :)FTFY lol.
Good thing I bought that Ducky 2 off ebay on monday T_T.
Here's what will happen:
Ducky Zero 2108S = old Shine 2s, same functionality, new non-Cherry non-Costar stabilizers
Ducky Shine 3 = aluminum case + 5mm LED nonsense on spacebar, polling rate control, some other upgrades
Zero Shines will be $10-15 cheaper than current Shine 2s (why I would be hesitant to buy a Shine 2 unless you need TKL right away)
Shine 3 prices, who knows? I'm guessing $150-160 range if they skimp and have just an upper aluminum case. I can't see Ducky pushing much beyond that when cheaper Topre options are slowly being released.
As far as I know, here are are the advantages of a Shine II vs Zero:- Mac compatible: unless it has the NKRO hack built in by default (a la Choc Mini), the board should be Mac compatible
- Mac compatible
- Removable USB cord
- Reactive lighting mode
- Muliple function DIP switch
No idea what they are saying, but.....nice find!
Wow, LED overkill! Watching the video, I was thinking how I wouldn't actually be using any of those modes!

Well I have a shine II and I don't use the back-lighting at all....I just wanted the full size board with clears...
I'm interested to see what the shine III had to offer but would probably consider one of the other models since Ducky seems to be adding a few more with clears and greens even!

This man and I think alike :) I also don't really care for back lighting and I also had previously bought the Ducky Shine II w/ Clears just for the switch type. It should be interesting to see what the new products will feature but I probably won't be planning on getting any of them, at least not just yet :P

Ah, the plot thickens! All mechanical keyboards are usable on OSX: it has its own keyboard determination utility for non-native Mac keyboards, I've tried this myself using both a Leopold FC700R and a Plu M-87.
Hmm...mechanicalkeyboards (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=383) shows the Keycool as being "limited" on non-Windows systems. What does that mean?
@Faceless: Wow great find! That alu case...I wonder if it is backwards compatible...
I keep the steady full backlight on min brightness.I do this too, backlighting at minimum brightness, across all my backlit keyboards. Unfortunately for my Deck, that still equates to surface-of-sun brightness.

Yep, i share the same opinion. Backlighting is pretty cool but after so many keyboards with that feature i just use it on with the lowest brightness or off. I'm more interested in the ducky mini and in the year of the snake. Thanks for the video :) Looks like they are finally getting on board with the whole delayed reaction lighting like Corsair. Should be interesting to see pricing on this thing. I can only imagine the aluminum case version will cost quite a bit. Pulsating reaction lighting is quite decadent :)) It's cool but some of those options just seem so useless and no one will use them no matter how cool.

While the delayed fade-out reactive mode is a step in the right direction (glad to see they at least tried), I'm gonna be pretty bummed if these ship without what is IMO the single most obvious natural progression from the Shine2 -- a combined low-light all-on (say, 40-60%) + high-brightness reactive (90-100%).
Edit: Lol this is the third time this video is being posted in this thread sorry. Skip to 30 seconds and you'll see reactive + full back light simultaneously.Don't apologize -- it's a completely different and much more helpful video. :D Outstanding find & well done.
Ducky Shine III USB Repeat Acceleration demonstration from Ducky Facebook
Personally I'm not too keen on the space bar. It would be nice if there was a replacement space bar with, maybe, just the Ducky logo on it. The snake one would be a little too distracting.

There is a limited edition "Year of the Snake" keyboard, then there is the Ducky Shine 3. Both share the same space bar design.
I think what gets most people is that the front and top of the space bar light up. With most backlit keyboards (if not all) there might be an illuminated logo on the front of the space bar, but otherwise it is not lit.
This one is.
And being such a large key, with so much illumination, it could serve as a distraction.
Any word on the Shine 3's availability? I really want that camo version, will be a perfect match to my Filco Camo :DI'm forgetting where I read this, but somebody said the camo version was cancelled. ><
Still no way of knowing whether there are two separate sets of brightness levels for background vs reactive, though.
Umm... I'm getting nervous after just seeing something on the official Ducky Shine3 page -->
DIP Switch Functions:
Windows Key lockout
Ctrl and Capslock swap
Windows key and Alt swap

That last Dip switch function used to be reserved for switching N-Key rollover from N to 6 for maintaining compatibility with Macs. On the product page, it says NKRO and Mac Compatibility: Yes.

Am I missing something here??
I just got my shine 2 now I feel sad, I want this so bad. I really like the space bar hoping they come out with a few more designs on it
So what's the ETA on these being available for US customers?
... Then you've never had a USB keyboard with Unlimited NKRO without any way to switch it to 6KRO -- it's a well-known/-documented problem that OS X simply can't deal with Unlimited NKRO over USB. I experienced this first-hand with my Ducky 9008G2 (original G2, with just the topside Fn+F9/F10/F11 hotkeys as opposed to the physical dip switches on the bottom) -- had to sell it because it simply wouldn't work with my Mac desktop. Also, the manual that comes with the G2 Pro series (with Dip switches) specifically instructs the user to switch to 6KRO for Mac compatibility. I don't know what you're talking about with this being a Windows problem -- that's simply wrong.Umm... I'm getting nervous after just seeing something on the official Ducky Shine3 page -->

I've never had a USB keyboard plug into a Mac and not be compatible. By default it can handle a lot more than 6 over USB anyway - that's a limitation of Windows keyboard manufacturers have to work around.
So I think I'm missing the point of this dip switch all together?

the shine 3 come in tkl? .. and iso?Wondering this as well. I really want a backlit TKL, but it seems like all of the Shine 2 TKLs are out of stock.
That ducky logo made of keys is really cool, someone should do that for GH
I think people complain too much about the spacebar so they decide to use the snake one as a permanent Shine 3 spacebar.Yeah, I was kind of confused by the whole spacebar thing. I'd though the snake logo would only be available on the YOTS edition. Then, when I was at my fave local peripherals and games shop, I was surprised to see DS3's being sold, it had the snake logo on the spacebar. I dunno if the guy at the shop was misinformed or not, but he'd told me that there'd be three versions of the DS3. Priciest is the aluminum YOTS, 2nd would be a regular plastic case DS 3 YOTS version, it would share all the lighting features of the aluminum YOTS. Then there would be the vanilla DS3 which does not have all the lighting features of the other two, one being the running snake effect. Here in Asia, it's out already, and I've been told it the regular YOTS edition, plastic case with all the lighting features of the aluminum YOTS. Please bear in mind this is what I've been told, whether it has any modicum of truth is another matter, I think the guy had heard wrongly.....but, time will tell.
But even so it's still weird..... it's like it won't be year of the snake forever and I'd much prefer just having a line and nothing else. That and Ducky need to redesign their logo, it's quite ugly as is.

Yeah, the green lED was wonderful, actually wanted the usual blue though common, so when I was at the shop picking up the KB, I asked the salesguy to lit both up for me to see. The green LED won me over, wanted blue as my case had blue LED in it.....and I couldn't sleep due to this mismatch in LED. I didn't know I was so anal about this sort of thing.....finally threw my arms up in defeat and got a green LED strip and fan, changed the LED color of my case to this:Anyone heard something about Shine III coming with white key caps? I do like the green backlighting!
I think the two side strokes clash with the duck-head emblem :( Two different styles together (plus red and blue helping the distinction).
I ordered a shine 3 a few days ago. Purple Backlight with Blue switches. I really hope the purple is a dark as they show it in videos and not a crappy pink like color like some are. Looks like MK is getting them today so hopefully I will have it this week!
I was going to order Filco TKL today (Ducky was not available some days ago) to my friend in UK (He will be staying there for a week) and now I see that Ducky can be ordered =/
$149 + $50 (delivery) and about 12 days

tns, what's the weight of the YOTS? Does it really feel heavier than standard Ducky Shine?Hmm I can't tell atm, but it feels heavier than my Filco MJ2, and of course my Duckies TKLs...
edit: what's the switch?
And now I am disturbed for an only shiny keycap layout x'DThen here comes the bad part TT...
Well was wondering if it was a manufactured problem or... a delivery problem...
EDIT : haha nevermind it's a new feature I didn't know XDDDDD
SORRY!
Nice! Thanks for sharing tns! I'm jealous!
How do you set it up to illuminate all the keys?Fn + F9, to see how fast is the key repetition, I didn't know there was LEDs to show the level
tns, what's the weight of the YOTS? Does it really feel heavier than standard Ducky Shine?1,420 Kg

1,420 KgOnly 20gram heavier than the plastic top cover...
Any way to get F2-F4 and F6-F8 to all light up at the same time? Or are these only used to display the Delay/Rate modes? You can choose to display your key repetition level or not... not means : F2 to F4 & F6 to F8 light up

In Australia that would read as nearly one and a half tonnes!
It's the comma that does it. But is is about 1 1/5 Kg - ok.

WOW am I disapointed! Just got my Shine 3. I ordered Purple LEDs with blue switches. Ducky aparently made a HOT Pink version (like crazy pink not like slightly off purple) and they sent me that instead it is discusting. Wow it is ugly. This photo doesn't do justice to just how pink this is. I'm having barbie vs GI Joe battle flashbacks from my childhood.

The ducky shine IIs didn't come in purple they specifically came in pink according to duckys website.

There is always a lot of confusion between pink and purple. Getting LED colours just right is tricky, and many boards with purple look pink, and with pink look purple.

Has there been any information about the release dates on the YotS, the Mini and the TKL version yet?
LOL I dont have such a thing as a local retailer sorry. I do all my keyboard shopping online so I just need to wait for MK or Qtan to get them.Has there been any information about the release dates on the YotS, the Mini and the TKL version yet?
Several people have got theirs already, so I guess they are already available in some places.
You'd probably have to consult your local retailer to find out.

Are there any clear switches?
For people that have the Ducky Shine 3, does your left shift key feel stiff, or did I just get a bad one? I have red switches.
Maybe you all know this but (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ducky-Keyboard/117547488320354)
Shine 3 supports firmwareupdating through USB interface. A new firmware update that adds a new lighting mode is going to be released in the coming weeks. Feel free to contact us if you have any ideas for improvement or new lighting modes. Thanks for your support and feedbacks.
My girlfriend is currently using a Shine 3 MX Red with purple LED; the latest firmware patch seems to fix the issue she had with it going unresponsive while changing lighting modes for the first time after boot, but a new one has arisen. Now she gets random crashes where the keyboard goes completely unresponsive after changing, saving and/or loading the RGB settings of the spacebar. The only way to fix this seems to be a reboot or unplugging the keyboard; I've tried uninstalling and sweeping any drivers, but the issue persists.
Does anyone else have similar issues withe the Shine 3?
Are there any clear switches?
I don't think ducky is making any new backlit board with clears.

Does the Shine 3's come with a different spacebar? Sorry if this question has been asked before!
Does the Shine 3's come with a different spacebar? Sorry if this question has been asked before!
Yes, they have a snake logo on the space bar.
Originally this special space bar was only to come with the Year of the Snake keyboards, but apparently Ducky decided to install it on all Shine 3 too.
Are any sellers doing pre-sales for the tks?
For those wondering about the 6KRO or NKRO on the Shine 3, I just got this response from Josh at TigerImports:
I asked:
"Will the Ducky Shine 3 support 6KRO as older versions have or will it only support NKRO?"
Josh replied:
"6KRO. It will be the same as the Shine II."
He also said, "We should receive Shine IIIs in a week or so."
Hope that helps and I hope he is right about the 6KRO as I am a MAC user...
Thanks peeps...
USB N-Key rollover
YOTS and a new round of Shine 3's are in stock at MK! There goes my wallet....
The dip switch under the keyboard can toggle between 6 KRO and NKRO.YOTS and a new round of Shine 3's are in stock at MK! There goes my wallet....
After emptying your wallet, and it arrives, can you verify that it only does NKRO, please?
As a mac user, this will make me sad.
That said, I hope you enjoy your keyboard when it arrives. :)
Not to be a noob, but is there gonna be a TKL version of this anytime soon?

Ugh. I only recently purchased a Shine 2 and now this... The fixed light issue where the light stays on for a few seconds after having pressed it is the main thing I would get it, for sure. *sigh*

Same here - that is the only backlighting feature that I miss.
Ok, I have Shine 1, maybe saving backlight settings across reboots would be nice too.

The original Shine 1, when you reboot the computer, resets the keyboard and forgets what backlight setting you had. Kinda annoying if you keep rebooting.
I understand that the Shine 2 onwards has onboard memory and remember what the backlight setting was.
Will the TKL version which will come out soon, come with the same lighting features?

Probably, yes. The earlier Shines were functionally the same, just a few less keys.
my YOTS came in today.... unfortunately i got a second F keycap where the H is supposed to be. I emailed MK about it and hopefully they can get me the correct replacement key.
MAC USERS:
I did plug it into a mac and it seemed to work fine(tested on word). All of the keys worked and i could press up to 6 keys before it stopped registering keypresses. Hope it helps!

Hey there,
as I was searching the web to find reviews and such for the Shine 3 I stumbled upon this site. Very awesome! :)
I got some questions, I hope these weren't asked before:
I see that ducky is distributing firmware updates and I keep reading that some users have problems with the lightning mode not functioning well or keys not really responding and other different kinds of errors. Does anybody here experienced such errors?
So, is it like a Windows firmware update, that you will have to install everytime when you plug your Shine 3 into the pc or will the update be kept on the onboard memory of the Shine 3?
I guess when I order one than the Shine 3 will not be updated with the firmware provided by duckychannel, will it?
Does somebody know how much it costs to ship the Shine 3 via mechanicalkeyboards.com to Europe? Any differences to which european country it's shipped?
Regards
How good is the quality on the shine 3 compared to other full size backlit boards for ~$150?
Now that they are out, can someone let us know if they do/don't support 6KRO, please?
Once they arrive and you get time with them, of course.
Thanks.

If ur looking for LED backlit...well, Shine3 has tons of cool effects incl. the badass reactive with adjustable delay. Its also got memory so u can set up ur own layouts with the light.
So for led backlit, id say there is no comparison ;)

Caps Lock and Num Lock work, though they dont change the lights on the mac's keyboard like they would on a pc. The 4 keys to the top right are non-functional however. They are the calculator, Pc, mail, and home keys. Also the Ducky/Windows key works as the Apple command key.
Also when i first tried using the keyboard on a mac it plugged in and started working, though i did not try the apple commands or caps/num lock. When i plugged it in today it was right after i had updated the firmware on the keyboard and i got a prompt on the mac to push some keys to help identify the keyboard, i am not sure if the firmware is related to that or not.

I think the Mac does the key pressing thing to make sure the board is working?
I've had pretty much every led color option available in other keyboards, except for orange. But out of all of them, I really liked the way that the purple leds looked on my ducky shine ii. But since I've never had orange before, and since it looks really nice in pictures, I want to try them out. Thanks for your suggestions, but it's between orange or magenta at this point :)
that's why submarines use red lights in the cabin. (I think)Did some digging and found a little blurb on sub control rooms and lighting; (lmk if you cant read it, ill copypasta)

Ducky magenta (purple) is often confused with pink. There is even a thread here about just that.
If it was me, I'd get the orange, but that's just my preference.
Ripple mode LOLYeah, not sure who gonna use the ripple mode.
Reactive is the one I was waiting for, and still waiting as my keyboard budget has recently been reduced somewhat.

I just got my Ducky Year of the Snake!!!Congratulation and welcome to the club! What switch? What's your serial number? Any photos? ;D
This is my first mechanical keyboard, so there's a bit of a learning curve. I'm really not used to typing on anything that feels like this. As far as quality is concerned, I am extremely impressed. The aluminum chassis is well worth the extra cost, and it looks much nicer than I expected. I thought this would be one of those situations where the aluminum was thin and low quality. This isn't one of those situations. It's thick, has a great finish, and it weighs 5.5lb (according to the shipping label, which feels about right).
Highly recommend this if it's still in stock somewhere.

I'm planning on getting a Shine 3 soon, but I can't decide on a color. I'm on the fence between orange and magenta. I want to buy a white keycap set made for backlit keyboards (like this: http://i.imgur.com/m5Z7Smi.jpg). Both magenta and orange would look really nice. I can't make up my mind - someone help me out.

Do you know if it's possible to buy black keycaps like those? I'm interested in the Shine 3 but find the keycaps too busy, and I'd love a simpler option (something like the keycaps of the Code or Shine 2). I've found these (http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-universal-black-translucent-mechanical-keyboard-keycap-set-top-print.html) keycaps from MaxKeyboard, but they're translucent.

Most of these lighting modes seem to have been designed for demonstrations. Apart from that, they would be extremely distracting.

Tried typing with that mode, NOT a touch typist I need to see the keys most of the time, and someone described it as Epileptic mode, this couldn't be more true! I'm not prone to such epileptic attacks at all, but looking at the LED going all hog wild when I was typing almost made me have one.

So I was hoping for a bit of quick advice. Then just go for the YOTS. :D
I've managed to save enough to either buy the YOTS or a Ducky Shine 3.
I also would like to know what you recommend for the YOTS as I could either get it with Blue or Black switches, personally I've used Blue before and I loved them. I'll mainly be typing and doing a little bit of gaming so this will play a large part in it.
YOTS is so tempting just because I'd know I'd have 1 of 999 which since I'm a collector of many things already would make me happy.
Any help is appreciated <3

The White LED's are one of the things that put me off my decision as with a Shine 3 I could of chose what colour I wanted. Its the 999 made thats drawn me in though.

The White LED's are one of the things that put me off my decision as with a Shine 3 I could of chose what colour I wanted. Its the 999 made thats drawn me in though.
I was actually thinking about purchasing these once I can afford it, I really want some keycaps that are front printed :)

Really horse? Well that's gonna be interesting. Ox is also going to be interesting. Tiger would sound awesome in a name.Ox and Tiger are already out during their respective years.
May I ask why?

Kinda duckie
Full aluminium = $$$Personally I don't mind as long as the quality/finish is great!
Yeah, I'm really happy with the results. Only one problem though, my rig is going to have a white/red/stainless steel theme, and I'm thinking of swapping the ABS caps on the YOTS to some red on white Vortex thick PBT caps in the GB. Would white, red keys with black mods+spacebar look too distracting? :s I'll also need to source 4 extra caps for the calculator/e-mail/internet/Computer buttons on the top right...keypop's polycarbonate keycaps are good candidates for the extra 4 caps.
Just pre ordered a Blue LED black switch tkl! Anticipation is killing me now!
Where do I preorder the Blue LED TKL? I'm in the USA. I also like to know if I can order a spacebar replacement from the same place. I think the snake spacebar is a bit tacky.
Thanks!!Just pre ordered a Blue LED black switch tkl! Anticipation is killing me now!
