Alright here ya go

(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8408/8886695326_d110a65e58_b.jpg)

It's going to be 55g blacks, lubed and stickered (white). The LEDs are going to be "pink" but they actually look more purple

Is that grey or gunmetal? Cause it looks really gunmetal in the first picture.

This might be a keyboard-jerk thread for only those 50 that got one of these. That's going to be a lot of work to trace who has one and all that detailed info about the keyboard. But good luck!

Hmm I didnt mean to isolate otherwise with it. My main purpose was a photo thread but to include details of owners and considering all 50 are on GH its a managable task.

Atakp, can i trouble you for a shot of the shiny base?

Hopefully, I get my red soon.  I'd like it to be my debut photo shoot for my light box.

Case looks almost purple.

It kind of looks gunmetal from certain angles but its actually lighter than a true gunmetal.

It's hard to capture the true color. Too much light makes it look too washed out.

Atakp, can i trouble you for a shot of the shiny base?

I didn't pull the film off the base yet, I still have to ship it for assembly...but I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

There is a thread for this. It's called Post Your Korean Keyboard. Also, what does it matter what I put in mine? I can easily change that on any given day.

Usually just means they don't want Paypal bugging them. I have confidence in boost and alaricljs that they will be busy getting these shipped out as the boards are complete and ready to ship. :)

Considering I bought this to go with the set you see on it, you can understand why I'm doing the darker color, too.  Or at least more accurate red.

Fortunately, it's just the top that needs redone, so it's not horribly heavy.  I'm going to start pricing monday.

Yea and being in Canada I would have to send it through customs another two times. I gotta keep mine in Ontario to keep the cost down. Halverson might get his re-colored too so that should reduce the overall price a bit. I think he has a few other things he wants to get done too. But he might keep it the way it is. Who knows

There's only one part that's colored and that's the top part unless you also mean the plate.  The bottom is mirror polished.

Fortunately, it's just the top that needs redone, so it's not horribly heavy.  I'm going to start pricing monday.
it's unfortunate that so many people aren't happy with the color.

Yea and being in Canada I would have to send it through customs another two times. I gotta keep mine in Ontario to keep the cost down. Halverson might get his re-colored too so that should reduce the overall price a bit. I think he has a few other things he wants to get done too. But he might keep it the way it is. Who knows

Let me in!

eBay. I believe 0508 is in reference to its physical size. It is not its impedance (Ohms)

EDIT: 0508 is also 1220 (metric)

The retistors for the leds do not have polarity. They can be installed in either direction. This is opposed to normal diodes for switched which have polarity and must be installed in the proper direction. A diode is a valve, allowing the current to only flow in one direction. A resistor flows in both directions but limits, constrains, the amount of flow.

they are every where all over the ebay.... 0508 or 2012 marked with both. I just ordered 2 packs of 250 each for the upcoming Trixk board. What you want is 1.2K Ohm for the for the 1.8-2.4V LED's and 820 Ohm for the 3-3.4V LEds.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/290940624271?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_6195wt_1161    1.2K Ohm

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300850253874?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_6195wt_1161     820 Ohm

Don't forget they are 2 stages of modding the leds though, speaking of if you get the round ones, and you just want to make them fit not interfering with keyacap bottoming out then you only need to shave off the wire sides, this mod wont give you the ability to remove the top cover of the cherry switch for later down the road stem and spring swap. Only benefit you will have is flush leds that wont came in way with bottoming out.

The full blown mod would be, shaving off the the leds all around and shaving off the top cover of the cherry housing, this will give you flush leds and removable top cover to swap springs and stems in future.

I think alaricls used 1.2k ohm for the red LEDs and they're REALLY dim.  If you want them brighter, use a lower ohm resistor, like 1k or something.

How dim is really dim?  I used the values that Redline specified after double checking them with some math.  If the LED light is just a spec of color in the LED with no real luminescence then you need to reset the KB firmware and you'll get full brightness.  Aside from the resistor values there is whatever Redline did to control brightness since they have a 50%/100% brightness toggle in their control program.  There were a couple PCBs I tested that came up with nearly pointless brightness levels and a reset always fixed it.

The rest of my resistors came in today. But one spool in unlabeled. They each have "122" on them. Can anyone confirm these are 1.2k? How can I know for sure? The time has come to get started on this beast.

typically 1201 would be 1.2k, 7320 would be 732 Ohms

First 3 digits are the first 3 digits of the resistance, 4th digit is the # of zeros after... 1203==120,000

In your case I'd expect they decided to use less ink and do 2 digits plus # of zeros:  122==1200  Which is 1.2k :)   Of course to know for certain, you measure.

Yeah, i originally got green LEDs with my order because i thought the toxic set wouldnt take this long. Finally the orange LEDs came and i got down to business. Could not be happier!

Also for people who ordered WKL, make sure you solder on the leds the correct way for the ctrl/alt keys. Had to resolder mine thinking they all went the same way ~_~

I wasn't sure if I should post this here, in the group buy thread or in both, but I decided to post it just here.

My LZ-GH is an 86 in a black aluminum case with stock clear switches and full RED LEDs. Currently wearing full Red on Gray Klaxon.

Here is the beginning of my LZ-GH adventure. It took a little time because I made a mistake when I first wanted to put it together. I soldered my corner switches before putting in stabs *facepalm.
Here I have desoldered the corner switches, and I am ready to go.
[attach=1]

Soldering switches
[attach=2][attach=3]
Not all switches are soldered on the bottom of the board.
[attach=4]

Soldering the LEDS
[attach=5]

SMD soldering with solder iron isn't hard
[attach=6][attach=7]

Does everything work?
[attach=8]
YES! Everything works :)) .

[attach=9][attach=10]

Very happy with the board. Now I just need to figure out if I can toggle the LEDs without the TrIK program xD.

Glissbro, I think the different LED modes are set to `+ (1-4). I downloaded the TRiK program to figure that out, but once I was in there, I didn't have to change anything to get that functionality on my board.

LED control should be whatever key the macro ("M" in TRiKer) is set to + 1/2/3/4 to cycle through the various LED modes - when my board arrived the "M" macro key was set to the "pause/break" key, so maybe try that (I was under the impression "pause/break" was the default key assigned to macro duty).

ECbro, thanks for the suggestion :) I found out that Pause + 1234(5) set the LED modes for me. No idea how to even change that or anything else like an FN layer on this beast, but I'm fine for now.

Dianoda, thank you. I just found that myself, so now I can control the LEDs at least ^^.

Glissant, those red LEDs on a silver plate, as well as red hue in the dark look uber nice!

Btw, that weller iron is too hot. The dial should be on setting 3 max for just switches and the stock tip. Less risk of frying/lifting pads. Trik PCBs are good quality though so not much of a risk as cheaper ones.

either tilde + 1-4 or Pause + 1-4   I've had both.  Resetting the firmware (Esc while plugging it in) should make it Pause but will also break your keymap a little (modifiers will be wrong)

for SMD soldering i use 210 or so. so i htink for an iron 250 would do the trick. My solder iron is a dial though. i set it to 3 of 5

And here is mine:

(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/63153503/LZ-GH.JPG)

So it's no longer black because I had to fix a dent on the top left corner,
I wet sanded it to get the flat surface back, I then filled with an aluminium/epoxy putty where it was needed and finally got it powder coated pearl white.

I am very happy with result and the dent is completely gone :D
Powder coating sort of smoothed the edges and made for a more glossy classic look
I can detail the process with some pictures (not so many) if some of you have a dent issue and are interested.

It doesn't take that much time for me to do it, but I'm sure it would've been a fair bit quicker with the "right" type of equipment. I sure appreciate being able to see small components still, and hope I won't lose that ability anytime soon.

Question:
How come your leds does not come through the keycap (underglow effect).
I have a Thick PBT russian dyesub and the leds on my Poker II shine through it.

Is it because its a light colored keycap or just the brightness of the led itself?
Because on the stock blackish thick PBT that is included on my poker doesn't shine through.

Post by: YoungMichael88 on Fri, 26 July 2013, 12:05:58
It shines through the cap just a little bit in the legends but hardly at all. It's probably because the red double shot underneath is dark.

Also any rough estimate of what you might charge for anodizing services?

Thanks everyone! I will try and document my next run.  I may offer this service regularly in the future, but I'm just a little strapped for time.  The anodizing setup I have is more for larger parts, so it ended up costing me a lot in materials just to do this keyboard. :/  I might try and fit in a few trial runs of anodizing for you guys, I just can't promise that it's going to be inexpensive. But I can promise that it'll come out great!

EDIT: Also, I shot you a PM Dan about something else..

Red LZ-GH 86 key
White LEDs
55g Clears with white stickers and EK Mechlube2
Klaxon RoG

(http://i.imgur.com/pAizwIYl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/pAizwIY)

I've got to say I'm pretty disappointed with how this came out.  The LEDs are the weakest I've ever seen on a keyboard.  Also the Pause key doesn't work unless I'm also pressing the PgUp or PgDdn key.  Finally even though I'm no stranger to keyboard builds, all the stabilized keys stick and the rest of the keys don't even feel that smooth.

On top of that, the firmware/keymapper is very hard to use.  I submit that a manual shouldn't even be necessary to be able to use a keymapper.  Not only is this unintuitive but it also contains bugs and lacks an english manual.  meh.

It does look rather pink in some light.  Really, I'd be much happier if the LEDs were brighter.  It's lame.  Also TRiKer is lame.

Hello, gang,

I'm happy to join in with my new LZ-GH.  Some of you may have seen its story here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=49632.0).  It used to be "Wine Red"--now "electric turquoise".

I don't yet have a proper tsangan kit, as all of my prior keyboards have been ANSI in layout, but I've got some caps ordered.  Also waiting for cyan and warm white LEDs to arrive, as well as replacement switch stickers.  In the meantime, I grew impatient and put in stock vintage Blacks for the next couple of weeks and some temporary caps.

Updated with the new color:

Does anyone know which bolts are used for LZ-GH?  I thought they were M3, but I got an M3 bolt to test, and it's very slightly loose.  Inspecting an M3 vs the stock ones, I think I can also see a difference.  Are the stock ones non-metric perhaps?

Edit: Confirmed m3--just tested a bunch in a hardware store.

Calling all LZ-GH users!  Do you have any chattering issues on your board?  If so, consider voicing your support for my feature request here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51663.0
Thanks!

So i got mine in the mail but I want to take non potato pictures before posting it.  However I also have another question to the LZ-GH owners.  Does your LZ have a odd type of sound after you hit a key.  like a ringing of the plate?  and how did you silence it if it does

That's natural if you have a cavity beneath the PCB.  Put some drawer liner cut to shape under the PCB--should dampen any resonances nicely :)

Just wanted to add this just in case people don't know where to buy it. Drawer liner can be found at Target or a store that sells kitchen supplies. I bought a huge roll for $2.

I got mine at HomeDepot but also have seen them at local small hardware stores, such as Ace Hardware, Model Hardware, etc.  I think supermarkets might sell them as well.

After a long wait I finally received my LZ-GH. 62g  lubed ergo clears (silver springs), red switch stickers, red and white LEDs.

Yes.  My Filcos were also dampened with this liner, and the result was much quieter.  I add liner into every new keyboard I get now.  You can also use some thin foam.  Anything non-conductive that seems good for sound-proofing.

If you're putting it into a normal plastic case, you may need to do some creative cutting to make everything fit, as plastic cases frequently have various protrusions, such as for cable routing or what not.  At least the Filco cases have them.

All of those are fine.  With those thin ones, you can do a double layer.  Might be easier to get them somewhere locally.

Is it just me or has 80% of the original roster sold/traded their LZ-GH since?..

Their loss, my gain!  There's probably some selection effect of the owners being GH members who've gone through the entire ordering and waiting process.  Which means by the time they actually get their keyboards, they already want something else :)

thanks for the help. Bought the $4 cheapest one. Its 1 by 5 ft so that's plenty for two boards
