Parent garage, just got done doing a wash/wax/detail when the picture was taken

Now, I'm starting to get rust on the quarter panels :(, but the miles are pretty low for a 2001 (86,000) and it should give me another 40,000 miles out of it (my moms 4 door blazer had 130,000 before she sold it). At the 2,000 miles a year I drive it should last quite some time!

Hope it does!

The log cabin garage matched the log cabin house my parents build. Did I mention I like wood? :P

This was my first new car. Bought in 2008. I totaled it in 2010 from bad weather, and the rear tires slipped and slammed into the center divider and ruined the frame. :(

That's a bold statement when you have a GTR, and a 370z in the mix

350 and r34 are better looking than gtr and 370 imo

plus kia/hyundai doesnt really have anything at that rank :P

Aesthetically, I like it.  It could use a turbo though.  Coming from a 1.8T GTI, the Forte Koup feels really slow.

Yup, I like BRZ but I'd rather have a GTR. Also like a Dodge Challenger.

I've been looking into older Audi's and BMW's but am scared of the potential high cost maintenance. How have yours been reliability wise?

If they aren't well maintained, they can have a lot of issues. Most of the ones I got were cheap because the previous owner had problems with them, and some were pretty serious. If you don't plan to do the work yourself, or buy a well maintained model from an audi/bmw enthusiast, it can end up costing a lot of money.

On the other hand, if you fix one up and replace all the stuff that commonly goes out, it'll be super reliable and drive like a dream. I spent about a grand buying parts for the e46 when I first got it. But after the first year, I ran out of things to fix. I put less than $200 worth of parts into it last year, zero so far this year. Some of those were optional repairs too.

I think bmw's are easier to work on than audi's though. The way they disassemble makes more sense to me.

Agreed! I'm not fond of any of the BMWs post e46-facelift. But Audi's have been looking better and better. 10 years from now, I might pick up an A5. I don't roll cars under 10 years old. I like to wait for depreciation to level out.

We need a first car thread probably (not really), but this was just like my first car:

1976 Toyota Celica GT
[attachimg=1]

Thing was awesome.  Very nice when fixed up too:
[attachimg=2]

That was a fun 5-speed 4-banger... got it up to 120mph down a hill once and I swear I thought it was about to lift off.  Glad I lived through that period of my life.

Edit: AH! I forgot about this shifter... it's still to this day the best looking and feeling knob I've ever used.

But let's face it that's never gonna happen,

for now I drive a bmw e91 sport design that I bought 6 months ago, I find it really awesome (I'll try to post a pic tomorrow)
The straight 6 is great and is a huge upgrade for my old 4 cylinders

And I don't know if you are serious about the VW caddy sth but that's my favorite pick up, this along with the first VW golf are sort of legend here in France

I suppose it's like that with all cars. My problem is I'm looking at the M's and the S's. Cost to get into them isn't too bad but repair costs are potentially astronomical.

Before I bought the 07 Aero, I was (still am) looking for an 05+ A8. Just for the hell of it I asked the dealer what aftermarket warranty prices where and almost choked when he told me. Full warranty for 5 years was over $15k.

Actually, you might have luck with the M's. People who drive them tend to know more about cars and take better care of them. I found that M parts weren't all that much more expensive than regular e46 parts. And for performance related parts, particularly suspension and drivetrain stuff, you'll find more aftermarket options available for the M than a pre-facelift e46.

The Audi S-line didn't seem to be as popular during that time period. Finding parts for a S4 or S6 might be kind of difficult and could potentially cost more.

Dealers man, they love to rape.

Regarding the license plates, looking up, privacy, etc.--- Demmi makes a realistic point.

A ton of info about you is "out there", but usually in little pieces scattered about. Are you comfortable posting on a forum with an amalgam of your personal info...full name, address, phone numbers, email addys, license plate numbers....(it has nothing to do with having something to hide). It has to do with people knowing more about you than you would like because they can choose to misuse it. Anonymity is the first line of defense...getting lost in the crowd, not attracting the most attention so to speak. I can pick a social security number, but it's not a lot of use until I can add a name, address, etc. You may tell people you have migraines, but you may not want a potential employer to know, they may not hire you because they think you won't be a good employee. Plus there are a lot of nutty peeps out there...you can avoid them usually when you're out and about, but what about the nut job sitting at the computer all day all night fixated on you for some reason? It happens.

I have a pet stalker out there. I believe she has people she knows trying to connect with me on Linkedin so she can get access to my other connections. Why? So she can know more about where I am, what I'm doing, where I'm working, who I know so she can contact them. It's not fair that I should have to be so cautious, but it's an eye opener as well.

Dude, the creature is still out there. I get an email/text every 2 months or so. It was aggressive end of last year (I'm gonna sue you), to (you're a bad person), (I want to talk to you), then 3-4 times this year (I'm sorry for what happened), (I have health issues), (I have your financial documents you can have back if you contact me), to most recently (my life is so hard now).

It has gotten less aggressive. But I'm almost prepared to change phone number. It's good she doesn't call (which is weird), but that could change in a heartbeat. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize, so there's a filter.

I will NEVER EVER respond with anything other than another trip to court. A sad and pathetic person that had delusions of an ongoing relationship that never was. Just before the major incident that happened last year, I posted on a local social/meeting/dating/activities site to meet a couple peeps to go biking with in the new town I was moving to. She was cruising the site and contacted me as someone else. I didn't take her bait, just offered a generic response, but she ambushed me with that. It was one of the several flash points that I knew there was an unhealthy problem.

Gotta be careful out there.

***Also now, I don't give the time of day to anyone unless I start going through 'the process' of qualifying them. And I keep a LOT more distance.

Dude, it's the first time I've ever been scared. Had no idea what was going to happen or when. Afraid to leave, afraid to go. It was crazy. I had a lot of other circumstances going on...suddenly started new job, 2 employees yanked me, blah blah blah. It was an incredible time. It was horrible. I was going to get a backpack and literally walk away from everything. Literally. I was mentally preparing to sleep under a bridge. Who knows, maybe I'd be better off today, lol

Monsters like that don't love you, they loath themselves uncontrollably and always will. They look for happiness outside of themselves. They are tortured souls.

rape her, kill her, put her body in the trunk, bring it to the golden gate, drop it in the ocean. problem solved.

LOL, like your style, direct, decisive, absolute. Considered many options to stop the threat last year, ultimately chose this path. When in court at restraining order hearing, I made it clear to the judge I've taken an extreme measure to protect myself/my home from another assault/intrusion. That there will be a different outcome if someone came into my home again. Hopefully the message was clear to her and the court. No one should have to go through what I did. Especially me, this is not how I conduct myself or my life. Just goes to show what happens when you don't stamp out cockroaches right away. Unfortunately I'm still traumatized :(

Back to cars...I'm kicking around the idea of getting an old Jeep to keep some miles of my more expensive daily driver (trucks shouldn't cost so much), maybe get better mpg, and it's definitely "me".

What size motor? I was thinking about the crappy 4 cylinder.

I have the 4.2L 6cyl, but I hear the 4 isn't all that much better on gas mileage.

EDIT: mpg reported by people http://www.fuelly.com/car/jeep/wrangler

My car goal would be twofold. One to have a cheap, disposable vehicle to put miles on, and better mpg than my 14-19 F150 (which is much better than the 10-15 from my old F250 I sold last year). The vehicle still needs to be usable...so maybe another truck, but one of those small ones. I hear they get 25mpg. Meh, not a priority.

You should trade the f150 in for a new wrangler with the pentastar v6.  Good power and gas mileage.

You're welcome for completely fixing your dilema

I'm pretty sure I said you're welcome for completely fixing your dilemma, buuuuut I suppose I shall take another crack at it.

It sounds as if you do not use the truck for trucky activities (IE - using the bed for manly things like concrete.  Or dirt.  Or flowers.) all the time, therefore adding a mere hitch and trailer to the new jeep would thereby somethingsomething.

Really, I just like the new jeeps a lot.  I also like the ecoboost f150s.

I'll reconsider your evaluation over breakfast at the beach this morning, as I gaze upon El Diablo with a pair of bicycles in the truck bed.

Why do you even want a Jeep if you already have a truck? The F150 can do all the things a Jeep can do. The older Jeeps don't even have AC for the summer, and are even more miserable to drive in during the winter. If I already had a truck for utility, and needed a reliable good mpg beater, I would not be looking at old carbureted Jeeps haha.

That's easy, they make bike racks for the back of jeeps.

(bikes are manly, too.)

But I don't think you can call a jeep something like el diablo (that's like an evil chicken, right?)

Jeep as second car: The thought of a jeep as a cheaper, part time, fun, local car that can still carry stuff. I live by the beach in California, so I don't have summer issues, and winter is very mild. But it's not totally a practical choice for me. I'd rather have an old Scout, Landcruiser or late 60's Bronco just for the cool factor, but don't have the "keeping it fixed" in me at this point. I'm backing off the second car idea unless my work situation changes and I need to do massive commuting again...then buy a beater-bomber 4 cylinder anything to drive to death.

El Diablo: Evil chicken? LOL It refers to the devil because it's red, and because of me and the way I am. I had a red truck in the past, it was "Big Red", so this one is "El Diablo". My grey F250 was the "Gray Ghost", green F350 was "Green Giant", my Mazda Racing Division modified RX-7 was "Widowmaker" (clocked by police radar at 158mph on Valentines Day outside of Palm Springs...yes I was stopped and punished for that), Expedition was the "Puzzy Wagon", 911 was the "The Powerful Mach 5", the white VW camper van was "Vanna White", the Maserati was "Italian Job". There are others...I had names for them all. I'm pretty sophomoric naming cars.

Pretty car free today...

Highest I've been clocked at was 125.  After starting to coast up a hill from an indicated peak of 145.  The policeman was unhappy with my action.

Policeman was yelling at me, I think he was mad I stopped. I saw the lights about a mile behind me and pulled over...took him a while to get to me, LOL...maybe he spilled his coffee...he was very upset. I don't know why, I was the one that almost went to jail, paid exorbitant fines and had several court appearances. He just clocked out at the end of his day with a good story to tell.

I don't own cars that can go that fast anymore for a good reason. But it was fun. Stuff happens pretty fast when you're going that speed.

Nope!  The only touching up was the blanking-out of the license plate, and that was done with MS paint.

It was just some weird/interesting lighting (and the reason I decided to run inside and grab the camera); the sun had JUST passed behind the 14k foot peak in the background but was still well above the horizon.

Your camera has some decent dynamic range then. Usually, either the clouds get blown out, or the tires disappear into the darkness of the fender well. But I guess it's not really a high contrast lighting situation since the sun is over the peak. What do you shoot with, if you don't mind me asking.

Nice. I figured it was one of the Sony sensor Nikons. I have a Pentax K-5, which shares the same sensor, so I'm familiar with the dynamic range it captures. A lot of photos can have an unreal HDR look directly out of jpegs, and even more so if you push the RAW files.

I'm guessing it's the Nikon D-Lighting doing it's thang, although you can easily get that result without the D-Lighting from just fiddling with the raw files.

Yeah, its not a good idea to buy brand new wheels. Buying used will be a lot better and you can sell it for the same price you got it (if you dont curb rash it).

Or even better, you can buy slightly curb rashed wheels, clean it up, and sell them for a profit once you're done with them! (if you don't overpay to begin with of course)

Yes a lot... The best way to avoid fakes is by looking in the back. If it says made in Japan then usually its real (not 100%).

Craigslist should have some. Maybe your forums or look on other Nissan forums.

i completely understand that.

a large chunk of people buying these aren't going anywhere near a track with them. they are buying them for looks and status.

for their price, TO ME, they are hideous. hell at any price that car, again to me, is ugly.

Thanks! I was between the GTI & Kia Optima SX. The Optima SX was a really awesome car, and Kia & Hyundai have stepped up their game stratospherically in the past 5 years or so. The GTI won however in sheer fun factor, and that's precisely what I needed. My previous car was a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora, and despite loving my GTI to death, I really do miss having a big luxo-barge to drive around :\

I may lease into a Passat V6 instead of a GTI when my lease ends, so we'll see.

What kind of an STI...?

Bugattis are beautiful. Everything on them was shaped by hand. I think they are the prettiest cars in the world. The interior is gorgeous too. The design is not radical, but it is unique and is as aesthetic as can be while still being able to operate at 250+ MPH. If you drove a Civic or Smart at that speed, you could watch the side mirrors snap off and possibly even see the hood ripple. I think the Pagani Zonda is nicer looking, but it doesn't command the respect that the Bugatti does with its class.

I don't know man. I can still have fun going from 0 to 65 in a breath. That is, if you could actually breath while accelerating in that thing. Seeing what is involved in making a high horsepower car (my friends 650whp Evo) makes you really appreciate being able to make 1000. Especially when they make it to last 20+ years. It's an engineering marvel that, if I had the money, would not hesitate purchasing.

Okay, fun question:

If you won the lottery right now, what is the first car you would buy?

My answer is simple: 2013 Audi S8

Why: Also simple, we're talking about a 4500lb+ executive class luxury car that is capable of 0-60 in less than 4 seconds (C&D achieved 3.5 ). It's literally the best of all worlds because you have extreme comfort, speed, and more handling capability than you would need on public roads. Throw in AWD and you have a machine that's probably a beast in all road conditions with the right set of tires. Also, it's relatively cheap for the performance combined with the rest of the package. Nuff said

After that, let the flood gates open, but my second purchase would definitely be the new Aston Martin Vanquish, because...... well words haven't been invented yet to describe how beautiful that car is... lol

I am with you here.  I would take an Estoril Blue E39 M5 with Blue ostritch and black leather interior and the full Dinan kit (including the diff - to heck with mpg).  Finished off with a nice set for forged wheels and some coilovers and call it done.

With this interior:

Current cars:
1990 BMW 535I
1993 Mazda B series pickup (last year before they became Ranger clones).

The Mazda is my beater and actually more fun than the BMW even if it rides horrible. 5 are nice but I feel as though I'm being engulfed by mine, I hardly drive it anymore, it's just massive.

I miss my 91' 318IS, that was such a fun car, pretty too. If there is a car I regret selling, that's it. I had hoped the 535 would be similar to some extent as the older 3 series have shot up so much in value (especially a nice IS) and are hard to find, but it's more of a luxury highway bruiser and nothing like it at all. Once it's gone, I'm probably buying either another older 3 series (f I can find one in good shape for a reasonable price) or a Wrangler. And before you roll your eyes at another Jeep that never sees dirt, I drive the wheels off every car/truck I own.

Getting a new car in about 6 months. I held it off long as I could. I work in the same place as I live in, and I am an avid cyclist so I use that to get around. I do have a car for when I need it, a Mercedes A-class that I bought for my girlfriend. But it is not really a car I like to drive, and she is really the only one that uses it. I am still not sure what to get though. I know nothing about cars.

After that, let the flood gates open, but my second purchase would definitely be the new Aston Martin Vanquish, because...... well words haven't been invented yet to describe how beautiful that car is... lol

I'm going to have to agree. There's nothing like performance AND luxury. I've always had a thing for the M5's.

I am with you here.  I would take an Estoril Blue E39 M5 with Blue ostritch and black leather interior and the full Dinan kit (including the diff - to heck with mpg).  Finished off with a nice set for forged wheels and some coilovers and call it done.

I've also been contemplating an e38 as well. Vortech makes a supercharger kit that makes enough power for my needs too.

Nuff said

After that, let the flood gates open, but my second purchase would definitely be the new Aston Martin Vanquish, because...... well words haven't been invented yet to describe how beautiful that car is... lol

I'm going to have to agree. There's nothing like performance AND luxury. I've always had a thing for the M5's.

Ah, the E39 M5, easily one of the benchmarks sports cars, and yes, I too would love to own one someday. Preferably in metallic gray! Also an E36/E46 M3, just because I love the body style. A friend of mine has an E46 328i with a manual in blue and he keeps it in such nice shape, and I just love the look of his car.

What I drive now - Lexus LS430 (V8)

We drive the same car! Mine is also in mint condition.

I sold my Subaru STi 2007 for a LS430 2004 same color inside out of yours... Except I put some nicer wheels on it with 255's
And I have a Toyota 4Runner 2005 V8 for winter and hunting season.

Speaking of Subaru's, I'm really interested to see what the next WRX is like. It may turn out to be my next car if they bring the interior quality up to par, and give it some decent options for once.

Check out the Ultra-Gauge I'm in the process of dealing with. It shows vehicle parameters like a ScanGage but a lot more. It's about $70:

I turned on a friend to this back in February...he bought it and was doing the "rebate" online to get the $9 back. He had a meltdown and refused to use it. From what I understand reading their forum, many people get pissed with the "rebate" process, I guess it kinda blows. Anyhow I meant to get one, but he wasn't using it, so I grabbed it and started playing with it.

Can't decide how to mount...being a keyboard freak it's gotta be super-clean-OEM...you guys know what I mean. Might have a visual problem on the right, but on the left I gotta buy a $40 dash pod, paint it, hack it, install it.

So it's https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque and http://www.amazon.com/Soliport-Bluetooth-OBDII-Diagnostic-Scanner/dp/B004KL0I9I?

I've used the Torque app, it's terrible. It has all the information there, but the interface is horrendus.

I also own that exact OBDII adapter, and it's terrible, it doesn't stay connected to my BT devices for more than a few seconds at a time.

The big reason I got it is because it works with iOS and isn't $120. iOS devices only allow "certified" devices to connect.

So it's http://www.plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=GSSTWIFI and https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dashcommand-obd-ii-gauge-dashboards/id321293183?mt=8 if you don't have android.

So yeah, $70 is a kinda good deal for device+app to give you basic OBD2 readings.

Hmm, the OBDII adapter I posted has never given me any problems, though I read that some vehicles are a little finicky with it. $70 isn't a bad price, though. I'm always wary of apps that are associated with hardware. A lot of times, they never get updated after the initial sale...

Maybe I got a bad one. The other reason I picked the automatic is it's BT4 compatible which has claims of lower power consumption than BT3 and of course WiFi (the PLEX)

Some more recent vehicles come with information centers at the higher end as opposed to the basic models. Some of the information centers are pretty basic and just tell you when to change your oil. Others offer quite a bit of info, it's very surprising to see it stock. The Ultra-Gauge has 64 gauges available (of 104 the gauge can read) for my truck...it's based on what the vehicle manufacturer has going on in that particular vehicle.

I did not get my usual "loaded" model...this time around I skipped the 'BIG 4"--- 4WD ($2.500) leather ($1,000+) sunroof ($1,000+) navigation ($1600). I use my iPhone for a GPS. I also didn't get a high-end package model (Ford i.e.: Lariat, King Ranch, FX4, etc), I'm just not in the income level anymore to drop $50k on a truck. $37k was too much as it is. I got an XLT with little nice things like full power, chrome package, driver package, convenience package, towing. I added some things I want (security hard roll up bed cover $1,400, tailgate EZ-down shock $35, chrome mirror caps $60, keyless entry pad $80, bike rack, rubber floor mats. I'm about to tint 2 front windows and install the Ultra-Gauge.

You say that, but I bought my GTI with the navigation built in (only because the package included the Bi-Xenon headlights I wanted) and it wasn't until I started using the built in nav that I realized that using the built in nav is a whole hell of a lot easier & safer than using your phone for nav. Especially when you have a driver information center built into your gauge cluster that gives you abbreviated directions....

The Ford system has been noted as being all-inclusive. Most people that have it use the phrase "When you pry it from my dead, cold hands...". It's virtually top of the line, but it's also $1600+ that I'm not in the mood to pay for since my phone effectively does the same thing, but not nearly as well. And I'm going to have my phone regardless, it's not like I'll save the $130 per month phone bill and over a year pay for the Ford navigation system. I also don't care for the light coming from the navi, even when it's "off" it's a black screen that is "on". I like a rather dark cockpit at night, no blingity-bling-bling.

i dont know how most people use their navs but, i plug my phone into my stereo, set the nav before i turn my car on and just listen to the navigation and not look at the screen.

i have yet to find a reason to pay 1600+ for that package.

I don't look at screen either, just auditory. It mutes the music for directions. It's not perfect, sometimes not giving turn info soon enough when starting out with 2-3 turns. It can be a problem when talking on the phone as well, the directions mute the clown that's talking and creates hassle.

God damn that was vauge, before that gets torn apart I shall clarify.

Many American cars are (in my opinion) ugly. I dislike the designs, although my opinions are probably damaged by what your producers ship to the UK to try and sell to us.

I had a Voltex wing on my Evo 8 but decided to just go with the duckbill on the X.  Agreed, though, it looks much cleaner without the wing...especially the stock one.  Not a fan of that thing. >__>

Looking for a clean mod to make this work. I need to mount the UltraGauge in the dash pod (with or without the rubber grommet, be able to press the corners of the gauge from the front so the buttons on the back are actuated, and have it look clean with the wire/opening on the left side concealed. The easiest way to get the latter done is to cut/have cut a small piece of MDF that would act as a trim ring and have it wrapped in whatever material you feel looks best. You could also go so far as to use bondo to fill the seams between trim ring and pod and then wrap the entire item.

As to the former, the only way I can think is to install that trim ring to a point where it presses the buttons near the point of activation so that the slight movement you could get from pressing the corners slightly activated the button press.

I'd almost be tempted to save the headache and find the device that actually fits in that surrounding and resell what you have.

The device that fits in the dash pod is a $400-500 tuner, so not gonna happen in this universe. I hit the skids in 2011 and haven't regrouped as of yet.

I'm thinking of a filler plate behind the opening with a cut out for the UG, with stand-offs to the rear attached to another plate that the UG is attached to with velcro. Sorta like a sandwich.

Damn I hope I have better results with the torque app. I just recently bought an android device and the BT mini device. Should be delivered today. I'm only concerned about getting oil temp and coolant temps. Interface doesn't matter as long as I can see the temps.

I don't think the iPhone app can track those right now on my car or at least know one has figured it out.

Only pic of my car from about a year ago. Since then it looks the same outside with the exception it's lowered now.

Yea, I have a family but no kids yet. I'm only 18  ^-^.

I live in NYC so I would prefer to have an SUV just in case I need it over the winter, it's also great for road trips.

It's a very hard choice between the DB9 + GL63, SLS + GL550, or Aventador and keeping my current SUV.

Not really a big fan of the C63. Drove a C300 while getting my GL serviced, and it felt slower than my GL  :(. Now they give GLK's sometimes, which feels just as ****ty. The interior also feels really cheap in the C/GLK-series in my opinion, but then it's probably because I was in one of their rental car things. I like the GL as a people hauler, road trip, and home depot vehicle though. :D

All this talk of SUVs makes me want to join in. I drive an '06 Hummer H3. It's great and all (Besides the unbelievable stigmas), don't get me wrong, any 5-speed SUV (If it's got 4 wheels, it better be a stick) is wonderful, but I cannot wait to get a Bugeye WRX Wagon, lift it an inch or so with some Forester coils, and throw 28" tires on the thing. It'll be an off road monster-wagon.

  • I like SUVS
  • I am awesome
  • No V8s (sorry MPG is usually an issue with them)

Can you even get a decent SUV for less than $30k these days? I honestly think it's worth it to pay a bit extra for a "luxury" car, service and benefits are much better depending on the brand. You can walk into a Mercedes dealer with holes in your shirt and they will respect you and ask you if you need help, that I like. Services there are also reasonably priced.

Mine is only worth $4500 at most, and it'll last another 5 years.  Maybe the best viable option is running this car into the ground?  I'm the kind of person that doesn't believe in buying new cars unless it is either what you always wanted or if you have the money to do so.  Used cars when properly maintained are always cheaper from what I've found.  I already get mid 20's in terms of MPG and it cost almost the same when I bought it.

Edit: 80k miles on a Hyundai: beginning of life.

Oh, I thought you were looking for a new car. The way I drive would make used cars not worth it. I would only put at most four thousand miles to a car each year, sometimes even only a thousand miles. Running a car until it doesn't work would seem impossible for me. Not sure what you should get as a used car though, never looked into that market.

If we want to talk semantics here, technically SUV's don't exist anymore. There are only a handful of true body-on-frame SUV's left in the world, and the rest are crossovers because they're built on car, or modified car platforms. Alas, people will still call them SUV's.

I mean no disrespect Topre, but I think you were in the wrong frame of mind when driving the Juke. If the GL450 is your first and only car then you're going to have to adopt a completely different mindset if you drive any car that's worth 2-3x less like the Juke is.

That being said, there is a reason that you probably felt as though the Juke's ride quality was poor, and that's because from everything I've read, the Juke is set up to have really good driving dynamics, which at the Juke's price-point, usually comes at the sacrifice of ride-quality. I also would imagine many cars are going to feel cheap compared to the GL450, so sorry if I'm taking that criticism with a grain of salt.

Trent, in my opinion, if you can get past the styling of the Juke (I'm in the "it's so ugly, it's cool" boat) then I would totally recommend getting one! If you can afford it, get the turbo as well, because they're fairly quick, and you probably won't sacrifice much on gas mileage. The Hyundai Tucson is also a great pick, and another crossover where I would suggest getting the turbo motor! But above all, driving it is worth more then any advice I can give you, so go out there and drive it!

That's true I was a bit harsh on the Juke. When riding an SUV, crossover, or bigger car I expect a smooth ride, such as those on Lincoln Town Cars. But I still can't get over the looks of the Juke, not sure how my cousin lives with that.

I wasn't trying to act smug. I don't have money, the bank has money. I don't like it when the bank has money, so I figured I need to help them spend some.

But the Lincoln Town Car was a pretty affordable car, parents drove one when I was a kid. Too bad they don't make them anymore.

I started with a dildo business. Buy them for a few dollars each and sell them for $15 to $30 a piece. Then I expanded to other stuff, but the dildos were really what got the money going.

No, I'm totally serious. I saw them on a site where you must purchase in bulk going for $3 to $6 depending on how many you buy. At first I was like, who got that kind of money for that? Then I found eBay and saw the same exact sticks selling for over $30, so I said to myself "good money selling these sticks." Asked my parents to order some, and that was it.

Title: Re: Post Your Car(s) Thread
Post by: Topre on Fri, 12 July 2013, 20:43:24
They are suppose to come with a bridge as well? I only got ones that had knobs on them.

Edit: I would post some links, but I don't think it's appropriate for this forum. But a "Rabbit Vibrator" goes for $3.7~4.5 each from a certain retailer, and you can easily sell them for over $20 on eBay these days.

Edit again: Actually, I think I'll just add the links if anyone else wants to give the dildo market a shot. I stopped selling them because it was kind of awkward when friends came over and saw boxes of dildos. NOT SAFE FOR WORK: $3.70 to 4.50 each not including shipping. This person on eBay sells them for $27 shipped at about an average of one each day.

Edit again: I removed the links because I don't know if links to massagers are allowed on this forum. If anyone wants to take a look then go to Alibaba and eBay and just compare the prices.

The money isn't at eBay or selling online. You can make much better money selling locally, save on shipping because you can deliver it. I actually got a few dollar stores to carry a few of the cheaper toys. Male toys also sell very well. Talk to local shops and sell it to them, or find people who are willing to sell it on eBay for you. Easier and quicker money that way, I went through about 20,000 toys (male and female included) a month doing by supplying it to retailers locally.

Alright, I'll admit I was trying a bit hard to derail this thread and acted like an ******* by doing that. The Juke is fine for it's price, other than it's looks. I personally rather have the Hyundai because of that. But the decent SUV for under 30k new is a serious question. By SUV, of course I don't mean a crossover. The Jeep Wrangler starts at $22k, but with options it would hit close if not more than $30k. Most other SUV's are over 30k after options as well. Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot starts at $29k. Crossovers seems to be a bit cheaper, but with options most if not all will also hit close to $30k+.

Hard to beat a Subaru Forester for a mid-size SUV.  Decent gas mileage, lots of room, reliable, cost is in your requested range, and if you ever do go offroad, it handles beautifully.  Turbo version adds power, but drops gas mileage pretty hard.

That's true, but stepping up to a truck-frame SUV adds quite a bit of weight.  And cost, less gas mileage, etc.  Depends on which factors you're considering as critical.  Off-road capability?  Get a Jeep.  Gas mileage?  VW Touareg diesel. (Also very nice on-road handling.)

You could go for a regular quad-cab or king-cab pickup, that would supply the truck frame, most of the room of a SUV.

I'm not looking for an SUV, I already have one. I was just wondering if there were any decent SUV's for under 30k. The only one I can think of is the Jeep Wrangler.

Diesels in general are much better for mileage though.

As with most things, I think it depends on how you define "decent."   ;)

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/02/suvs/ (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/02/suvs/)

For myself, I prioritized on-road handling, gas mileage, and cost as my top three factors.  Off-road capability was fourth, since I rarely get into the dirt, but in case I do hit some fire roads on the weekend, I wanted the SUV to handle medium obstacle and not puncture an oil pan.

I used to own a Wrangler, and although they are superb for off-roading, they are kind of primitive on paved roads.  Crappy gas mileage adds to the pain too.  But hey, it's got poser cred.

Well decent as in a car that works at least somewhat reliably with reasonable safety features, and handles alright. I would prioritize on-road handling as well. Gas mileage isn't that big of a deal in my opinion, mileage range on one tank is more important. That's why I love my 26.4 gallon/100 liter tank. The only off-roading capabilities I really use is pretty much for the snow. It's great to be able to drive on a foot of snow or a bit more at times without any problem.

So I got this to replace it:

The wrecked car was a 2003 GTI that no doubt saved my life from a combined ~60mph near head-on collision, so as if I weren't a VW fanboy enough.. I got another one. The folks at the dealership were astonished that I walked away from the wreck with relatively minor injuries.

Last wreck I was in was in a passenger front collision (I was passenger) where we where hit by someone running a light going ~60.  Needless to say, it hit hard enough to shift the entire front clip, but from firewall back was unphased (other than airbags, of course).  The engineering that went into the crash zones of that car is incredible and if they weren't "so expensive", I know my roommate and myself would both own one.

Wow. I think the firewall was somewhat penetrated, as I do remember coming to a stop, doing a self-check to make sure I wasn't dead or broken, I felt the heat from the exhaust/engine. I had to fumble with the seat belt for a bit but got it undone. I was sort of panicked because the building heat inside the car led me to think things were about to get real hot =\

Two things:  Airbags are stupid hot when they deploy and you may have had the heater core penetrated and then hot coolant was leaking into the car.  The engine is on mounts engineered to sheer and drop the engine under the car so it doesn't end up through the firewall into your lap.

Three of the 5 (5? wow wasted much money) cars I have owned prior to selling for various reasons and ending up with a 2003 SVT Focus which I don't have a pic of. I miss these guys, hope to own another Subaru someday as well. Also considering a Focus ST though...

You know my vote. I'm still not completely convinced Ford can make a good car, and Kia has yet to prove anything either. Imho.

I dont know, Im having great luck with my SVT Focus...140k and counting only reg maint. Its really fun to drive as well. The Fiesta ST and Focus ST are quite attractive if you ask me. Arent late model Fords rated extremely high for reliability?

And they aren't really "new" as they're based off of euro models that have been around going on 5 years now.  Sure the focus ST doesn't have the hot volvo motor in it, but yeah, ford's been making dependable hot hatches for a while.

The RS is sick.

A good friend of mine bought a saleen focus when they came out. It moved right along pretty well and handled good for what it was. The driving feel and interior materials kind of ruined it for me though.

Ah cool, another MKVI GTI owner  ^-^

I always thought of the M-Coupe as the clown shoe.  Now, that is not to say that it is one of the best cars that I have ever driven, but it is a very close second to a full Dinan E30 M3.  I love the M Z3, but the Coupe feels so much more solid (especially on really rough 180 deg. switch backs).  If I didn't have a family, this car would be in the top 5 of cars I want (that I can realistically own).

This is my #1 though.  Full Dinan E30 M3 - including the stoker kit.  My best friend had one of these while I was in college and having driven 100's of different cars, this is the best to me.  Supremely nimble with a slight oversteer on throttle, stiff, powerful (240 bhp), and still looks good to this day.

The Dinan e30 is amazing ~ love that body style.

Ya, the M coupe is a bit strange looking - but once I saw the back end, I was sold ... and they were pretty affordable at the time (2003) for a low mileage car.
I was a big fan of bmw before the bangle era ...
My last beemer was a 03 m5 - also a fun car .

My toys.  Used to only drive small sports cars with manual transmissions.  Got married, had kids, then got these!

Nice taste there!

Much appreciated, MW. We haven't agreed on much in my 4 years and 2 months here, but I had a feeling we'd be on the same page with my landyachts.

Nice!  I've always enjoyed the quirkiness of the VW Rabbit trucks, though I've never had one myself.

Well, I guess we both use Windows, type on IBM keyboards, and drive big luxury cars...what's not to like?

Not as radical as 'Lastpilot' 's turquoise (?) Porsche 911 GT2 (?) and not as "new" as Batmann's "old new" 911 but here's mine...  A Porsche 911Carrera from 1988.

I've got this car since the last century and used it daily for many years. Now it's a collector (25 years old already) and I take it out only once in a while:

The Porsche logo on the trunk got stolen several times so at one point I decided not to put it back on  :o

Icing on the cake: the prices keep going up and this baby is now worth easily twice what I paid it.

Daily driver is a BMW Z3.
