It just looks weird with 2 doors, in a good way :)

I've been looking into older Audi's and BMW's but am scared of the potential high cost maintenance. How have yours been reliability wise?

If they aren't well maintained, they can have a lot of issues. Most of the ones I got were cheap because the previous owner had problems with them, and some were pretty serious. If you don't plan to do the work yourself, or buy a well maintained model from an audi/bmw enthusiast, it can end up costing a lot of money.

On the other hand, if you fix one up and replace all the stuff that commonly goes out, it'll be super reliable and drive like a dream. I spent about a grand buying parts for the e46 when I first got it. But after the first year, I ran out of things to fix. I put less than $200 worth of parts into it last year, zero so far this year. Some of those were optional repairs too.

I think bmw's are easier to work on than audi's though. The way they disassemble makes more sense to me.

Agreed! I'm not fond of any of the BMWs post e46-facelift. But Audi's have been looking better and better. 10 years from now, I might pick up an A5. I don't roll cars under 10 years old. I like to wait for depreciation to level out.

We need a first car thread probably (not really), but this was just like my first car:

1976 Toyota Celica GT

Thing was awesome.  Very nice when fixed up too:
24463-1

That was a fun 5-speed 4-banger... got it up to 120mph down a hill once and I swear I thought it was about to lift off.  Glad I lived through that period of my life.

Edit: AH! I forgot about this shifter... it's still to this day the best looking and feeling knob I've ever used.

But let's face it that's never gonna happen,

for now I drive a bmw e91 sport design that I bought 6 months ago, I find it really awesome (I'll try to post a pic tomorrow)
The straight 6 is great and is a huge upgrade for my old 4 cylinders

And I don't know if you are serious about the VW caddy sth but that's my favorite pick up, this along with the first VW golf are sort of legend here in France

I suppose it's like that with all cars. My problem is I'm looking at the M's and the S's. Cost to get into them isn't too bad but repair costs are potentially astronomical.

Before I bought the 07 Aero, I was (still am) looking for an 05+ A8. Just for the hell of it I asked the dealer what aftermarket warranty prices where and almost choked when he told me. Full warranty for 5 years was over $15k.

Actually, you might have luck with the M's. People who drive them tend to know more about cars and take better care of them. I found that M parts weren't all that much more expensive than regular e46 parts. And for performance related parts, particularly suspension and drivetrain stuff, you'll find more aftermarket options available for the M than a pre-facelift e46.

The Audi S-line didn't seem to be as popular during that time period. Finding parts for a S4 or S6 might be kind of difficult and could potentially cost more.

Dealers man, they love to rape.

The thing about the Audi though, is I can drive it year round.

That $15k was the dealer price!
Looking for CC's!

Not my pic but I own a 1967 Volga GAZ-21 in baby blue.

Mine is in nowhere near as nice of condition, actually it was my grandfather's.  I have been in 2 wrecks with it, but you can't tell.  lol   I will maintain it forever,  there is just something about driving 3 on the tree on a bench seat.

Here is my '99 Subaru Forester on our Snowbard/Ski trip to Breckenridge back in college. It looks about the same now still.

Licence plate, might want to blur that, unless the plates have changed.

You can run a check of the person through the DMV if I'm not mistaken.
