How much money have you spent on keyboard(s)..(including keycaps, wires, mods, etc..) for the past three years?
I just got started by a guy who introduced me to HHKB about a week ago and I think I have already spent too much :))
-
I'm feather weight compared to some on here... I would say roughly 1000$ here
-
$1500 in the last 6 months and thats just what i added up on paypal. ;D
-
Poker II - $110
Klaxon - $45
nub cable - $20
=$175
HPE 104 - $108
PBT dyesub - $55
=$163
Incoming stuff: gasmasks ($40), bunny caps ($10) (woo)
So total: 388 in the past month. (I did not wanna add that up haha)
-
Just a ballpark guess, but I'd say approximately $4,000. I got started in December of last year. Jeebus, that's only 6 months. Yikes!

jeeeeeeeeeesus christ. i think about 1500 and i get kind of sick to my stomach.
-
Around $3,000 in the past 10 months.
-
Not enough :-*
-
A lot! I'll have to add it all up when I get time ;)
-
If we sell something is it subtracted from our total, because I'm going to be selling a lot of my stuff.
I can get exact numbers later, but here are some approximations-
Unicomp- 100
Pure- 200
Poker- 100
QFR- 100
IMSTO caps- 150
SP caps- whatever the stock ones cost
Ergodox- too much between the case and group buy losses alone
-
Around £850 over the past 9 months on the stuff in my sig which I think works out at around $1300.
Before I discovered this place... I'd say oooh... approx £100 (G15) over the 20 years or so I've been using a pc - y'know just whatever came bundled is what I'd use ;)
-
Do not really want to know what I have spent.
-
Someone should tally up the totals in this thread so we can see how much money GH has spent. Dat money circulation.
-
$15 on bunny caps :<
-
2 TKL boards + 2 keycap sets, TG3-TP, G84-4100 = approx. $400
-
I'm probably at 4-5k since last spring.
-
Guys, you should all get ergodoxes, because in the long run it'll save you money being the last keyboard you'll ever need.
-

I would just keep buying edoxes till i had one in every switch type.
-

I was considering round 3 but just got an fc660c so will join round 4 :p
-
Razer BW: ~100$
Das: ~150$
Noppo Choc Mini: 105$
ErgoDox, keycaps and springs: 300$
Total: ~650$
I don't think ErgoDox is the last keyboard I'll ever need. I will need second ErgoDox to leave at work, or maybe a Kinesis Advantage to use at home?
-

You make me more and more tempted to get one tp4!
-
In order of when I got them:
BTC Foam and Foil = free (and it'll stay that way. I might tinker with the springs in the gaming side so it has a consistent actuation pressure there, otherwise it's a cool piece but not worth anything to me anyway....)
Chicony KB-5181 = $2 (it wasn't listed yet, I asked for a price. The lady said $8, but changed her mind last second to $2. I don't know why because I had pretty much already bought it at $8)
Model F XT = ~$17 (an eBay purchase. It was between this and a $10, shipped, M. I decided I valued rollover more than $7, plus the M was kinda beat and would've needed work anyway)
Teensy 2.0 = $20 (to make the F XT work and to later tons of other boards. The most worthwhile purchase, recently)
Bits and Bobs to make the Teensy work with my boards = $2
2x Model F 122 = $72 (for both. From one of the pictures, it looked like the guy had a warehouse. He did and I asked him to look for any keyboards like the one in the picture but with a metal bottom. He found two and I bought them both)
More Bits and Bobs for the F 122s to work with the Teensy = $5
Parts M from eBay = $30 - $5 (I say it for $30 shipped, so I took it. I wanted ANSI parts then and there and I had the money at the time. He messaged me that it had a sticky spacebar and took $5 off. I got it and EVERY key was sticky... Cleaned it up, used it for a day or two then took the ANSI bits from it. I'll post the conversion on the forums when it's done and I have time. Now the M will be used for some "little" fun and "shiny" projects I have in mind)
Total = $143
And the people at school think I'm crazy for it...
-
$200 if you include the filco wrist rest, WASD sampler, replacement space bar and o-rings. Not bad so far:) I don't think I'll ever get to the magnitude that I am seeing in this thread.
-

one keyboard to rule them all....
-
Uhhh. A lot.........
-
If I add it up over the years and include keyboards I've sold or tossed or worn out?
Around $2000-2500 in Model M's - that's including M, M5-1, M5-2, M13's (some of which were bought new. Makes that number SCARY.)
Keytronic's got about $200 from me in their pockets - I used to use the FlexPro heavily and gave many to friends.
Focus, hell, easily another $300 since I had really, really bad luck with drops/spills/pets and those. REALLY bad luck. And I was paying $50/ea.
Chicony specifically probably has another $250 - think I was paying $50/ea for those and I know I bought 5.
Miscellaneous boards are probably another $750ish all said and done ranging from junkers for diagnostic work to PS2 keyboards that got broken.
Few recent purchases don't count since I got refunds, but add another $150 for a Ducky soon as it's on sale.
So call it somewhere north of $4,150 over the course of 23 years.
It doesn't get truly scary till you add keyboards I've gotten jobs to pay for. Goes right into the "oh my gods" territory.
3151's at list, HHKB Sun, SSKs, DEC LK461's, three or four SGI keyboards (SGI proto with IndyCam), $400 PC-Sun adapters, Sun Type4's at list, two Kinesis Advantages (original and Pro), two M13's at list, a couple M4-1's, and at least four ThinkPad-in-cases (various versions.) The total is probably north of $5,000 by the time you get through all the DEC/SGI/Sun alone.
-
Gosh, I'm totally dammed ...
-
$1.5/post, I'd say.
-
Well let's see..
Qpad MK50 browns - 85€
a lot of Cherry keyboards and stuff - some free (1800HAD, 3000LAMDE), mostly cheap on eBay, together maybe around 40€
Apple Extended Keyboard 2 - 5€
Apple M0118 (salmon ALPS) - 9,50€
ADB-USB converter from the US - 12€ + 12€ shipping
Mitsumi mechanical - 2€
So all in all around 150€ I guess. Not including shipping fees (usually just German "DHL" for 4€ per piece). Everything in around 7-8 months.
-
Way too much is all I know.
-
About $5.00/post. Please, no one post my total. It's too disturbing to look at.
-

Well that 'kind of' makes me feel better........
but I'm at at least $2.50/post (1449 posts) right now using a quick download of paypal and excel magic.....but not everything went thorugh paypal so I had to add a little on top......and for transparency sake I threw up a small bit when I realized this :o
And forget stars....JD we need some dollar signs!! :))
-
About $5.00/post. Please, no one post my total. It's too disturbing to look at.
Why do you think I'm trying to exclude all the work keyboards and the other input devices, man? I am terrified of that number. I'm a Unix guy. A Unix guy frequently in charge of the data center. Just the 1U IBM bundles alone (required to get the keyboard of course) used to run north of $3.5K each! ;/
-
Maybe a grand since December 2012, excluding things that I have sold. Damn!
-
Probably $200 total after trying a ton of boards then selling them (very small loss in $ on resale on lightly used stuff) and just returning back to my ergo alps I already owned plus my QFR.
-
Why would I even attempt to calculate this? Are you trying to depress me?
-
Why would I even attempt to calculate this? Are you trying to depress me?
Yes.
-
I've spent about 2000 SEK on my two keyboards (6gv2 and Ducky PBT DS white) and that translates to just about 300 USD.
-
Ray, JD, Mashby -- keep your head up. It could always be worse. (trust me...)
;)
-
Nothing compared to some people.
I have 3 Filcos, which were all around 160 dollar.
I spent about 150 on keycap sets, though I am selling at least one of them atm.
I spent about 100 on novelty keycaps
I spent about 20 on o-rings
I spent about 25 on a custom USB cable
Around 800 dollars, though most of that went to the actual keyboards and they will last me a long time. So it is fine I guess. Do not really regret anything.
-
Why would I even attempt to calculate this? Are you trying to depress me?
This thread should be a wake-up call to get most of us to winnow our collections down to somewhere between 3 and a dozen keyboards.
-
the ones I still have? or all together including ones I've sold over the years?
I'm probably pushing over $3K that I've spent on keyboards since Dec of 2010, but I've made some of that back in sales.
-
I probably spent more than what I estimate... 2x 3x my posts may be? But I also sold a lot of my stuff.
-
This is turning into group therapy...
Hi my name is ....
And I have a problem...
I've been a user for......
It is my wish to.........
These are the people I've hurt.....
I truly regret many of the choices I've made......
-
Ray, JD, Mashby -- keep your head up. It could always be worse. (trust me...)
;)
Well, I blame you anyway. You're like a crack dealer that lives on my street! :p
-

I'm sure you get stuck with plenty of stuff nobody wants to buy!!
-
2 TKL boards + 2 keycap sets, TG3-TP, G84-4100 = approx. $400
That's not enough. I recommend some ergo boards to up that total.

Keycaps : $270
Keyboards: $260
Numeric keypads: $90
...
I didn't think I was that bad. Though I did sell some and give some as gifts.
-
CM QFR - $55
KBT Pure - $83
Novelty Caps - $25
Cables - $7
$170
Upcoming:
Toxic - $90
-
Over $1000 in May, perhaps close to $5k to date.
-

Haha!
If he offered more keyboards with MX Whites, I'd probably set an individual purchase record that wouldn't be broken. Not ever. :P
-
Less than Most, but still way too much lol.
-
Close to 850 in the last 6 months.
That does not include solder equipment.
-
Close to 850 in the last 6 months.

mmm..soldering equipment. Once I get enough room, I'm going to toss my crappy soldering stuff and buy some really nice things.
-
about 2000 in the last year
-
About $500
-
Don't know exactly but this is everything I've bought :
Blackwidow - Dead, harvested for switches. Sold said switches.
Filco MJ2 - Sold
Imsto keycaps - Sold
Phantom PCB - coming
GH60 PCB - coming
Dolch & some other stuff from Sherry - coming
110 MX Greys
GPL 103 & GPL 205
500 korean springs
Old Cherry DS keyset & Cherry keycap puller
Cheap soldering stuff
A few geekhack shirts
I'll be spending a few £100 more soon.
-
Ugh, will I know I spent $900 on my Filco, I own 40+ kb's... so quite a bit..... I've never added up the total, I don't think I want to, but my job allows, and I'm not in debt. I'm OK.
-
2x Leopold FC200R - $200
MQP - $150
2x Tipro MID matrices - $150
Birch PKB-111 - $40 (Sorry for ruining the eBay prices on that one, guys).
Keycaps, though?
$350 for meebcaps (more sets coming soon!)
$33 for other SP stuff
$21 for my Hack Orange MX clack
Somewhere around $100 in Techkeys orders
I really think you should be more concerned with my audio hardware spending. Holy wow.
-
I really think you should be more concerned with my audio hardware spending. Holy wow.
x2 That significantly outweighs my keyboard spending.
-
a lot a lot
-
a lot a lot
So $0
-
$70 on my QFR, including the paint job. The PBT set was a Christmas present.
$100 total on my RK9000"ECE" (Ergo Clear Edition). That includes the keyboard, paint and painting supplies, switches, stickers, springs, and Teflon Silicone lube (need to desolder and relube it with Krytox).
~$80-90 on my GH60 for the caps, case, switches, springs, and PCB.
Way too much on my experiments with metal casting, resin casting, USB cables, and key cap pullers. Maybe one day those will result in some good community knowledge and me breaking even or even turning a small profit.
-
Keyboards: ~$1200
Keycaps: *shudders*
-
I'm getting depressed just crunching numbers in my head :-[
-
I've only paid for this keyboard I'm using right now, total 28€ including the keyboard and ps2-usb adapter.
I haven't paid anything from the rest of my keyboards .
-
approximately $500
-
Definitely not adding it up on purpose, because this new hobby is a project for me, like most other things I get into. I'll be working on 2 Filco keyboards for a while, as I made sure those projects are lengthy and require a lot of modification :) Then it'll be it, most likely. And I'll probably downsize to 2 keyboards, we'll see! (famous last words).
-
Not that much yet... Probably about 150$
-
I'm getting depressed just crunching numbers in my head :-[
^This.
-
It's nothing compared to how much I've spent on recording equipment
-
$60 for gas money to get a **** load of keyboards, IBM 5140, 2x 5150, 5160, 5151, 3x 5153, Toshiba T3100, 2x PS/2 P70, TRS-80 Model 100, Compaq Portable I (worst keyboard ever...foam and foil...), IBM 4201 Proprinter, IBM PC Compact Printer, manuals and everything else. I also spend $1 on a PS/2 to USB adapter and $5 on an AT to PS/2 adapter.
From that I got $70 and a computer case out of trades.
So I've spent nothing and made $10...?
-
$400 in total
HHKB and a bunch of vintage keyboards.
-
I had to make a spreadsheet to figure it out, but here are my stats over the course of one year on geekhack:
$4,385 spent on 57 items. Made back $2,470 in sales.
Net $1,915 hacked from my wallet.
-
I've looked at what's I've spent on clacks, the average per clack isn't bad, but it could have bought quite a few nice keyboards :(
Haven't added up what I've paid for keyboards, but I've found "my" switch quite early, so that has saved me quite a bit of money
-
I have been trying to avoid this.
Over the course of 3 and a half years or so, I have probably spent/traded $1,500+ and made $300-500 back.
Not much by a lot of people's standards, but I don't have a lot a spare cash.
And I have never owned a Topre or a Click Clack.
-
$4500 Net.
Not a lot compared to the high rollers, but I should not be proud of this amount.
-
****. my last estimate didn't include any gh60 stuff. so let's just say my estimate is easily over 1000$ in the last 6 months.
before that I was strictly a buck spring man. waayyy cheaper habit than cherry MX.
-
just hit $1000 last week ^-^
-
Yes I have spent money on keyboards. A lot of moneys. I believe it is less than jdcarpe though :P
-
Photekq and myself were actually calculating and doing this ourselves last week
by the end of next week, i will have hit $1500...scarey
-

Jd is the gold standard ;D
Trying not to look at this thread.....mine since I joined GH..... :'(
-
If the purpose of this thread is to make me feel bad, it won't work. I will spend my money as I see fit, and worry not, because I can't take it with me when I die. Just like I can't take anything else.
-

But it rumbled you so much that you came out of retirement to tell us how you felt.

I thought this was a keyboard pride thread!!! ;)
-
I should have bought a Harley instead. :(
-
This is Geekhack JD, buy both the Harley and more boards! :P

Hm, get 2. The GB style ;D
Always get spares! ;)

You won't be satisfied until you have at least a room full of 60% boards :))
-
Close to $500 now over 18 months or so. I've been wanting to get rid of my Cherry MX board though and get an ErgoDox, I think those would be sweet for gaming.
-
:)) I feel so "poor" compared to some replies !
According to my kb.xlsx, 450€ on a single keyboard. And around 30€ in adapters for the 3 other ones.
-
Ok, I am curious myself, so I'll add it up (for those things that I'm not reselling):
Ducky Shine II TKL and 2 Filco MJT-2 TKL keyboards: $292
2 Universal plates: $87
pink Shine keycaps: $60
zink keycaps: $20
Aluminum spacebars: $56
MX Clear switches: $57
Ducky Wristrest: $30
springs, stickers: $32
----
$634 :)
But I, as I normally try to get rid of my old hobby stuff when I move on to new greener pastures, I sold $350 of stuff that had been collecting dust for years to cover various keyboard-related costs.
So $285-ish, accounting for that.
And then various spray paints and soldering stuff, but that's something I do all the time anyway, as far as crafting and modifying, so I can't count it specifically toward keyboards :)
ETA: forgot to add an HID Liberation Device :)
-
If jd spent $5 a post, how much did Tsangan spent ? :p

.

Lol, is this tp4 trolling again?
-

I don't know where to start counting to be honest, but I mean I've sold some items I bought too right, too much stuff to calculate
-
I haven't written everything down but my computer room was once carpeted in usps tracking #'s... Maybe $2k? And those were all consumer boards - nothing custom Korean. Basically buy a keyboard .. discover it's not the one .. then sell it at 95% of it's value.
Over and over again...
+1
I've probably put $800-900 into this hobby that I haven't recouped. In total I've probably spent much more then $2500. Shoot, I've got at least $1500 in boards in my closet....plus I've got the lzgh and edox that are not in my possession yet.
-
About $5.00/post. Please, no one post my total. It's too disturbing to look at.
Out of curiosity, have you sold on most of what you've purchased, or have you built multiple keyboard shrines at home to house them all?
-
Just a ballpark guess, but I'd say approximately $4,000. I got started in December of last year. Jeebus, that's only 6 months. Yikes!
lolllll
-
My purpose of starting this "survey" is to get to know active GeekHack members' enthusiastic level in keyboards. We are all here (meaning Geekhack) for a reason and that reason for some of us here is for the love of keyboards. So whether you ever spent only $5 in your entire keyboard time AND you are a GeekHack member, Kudos to you because you've resisted all temptations. If you are a high roller who spend five figures, that's also fine because you really love doing what you want to do.
Wouldn't you be interested to know the average or the median of active members spending on keyboards? I do. Why? because is interesting and helpful. Why is it helpful? If I realize I am under the average, it might encourage me to spend more. If I am above average, I might feel good about myself of having the luxury to be above. It all depends on how You look at it. But That's my take on it.
Last but not least, as a new member here, Thank you all for your participation. ;)
-
Lets see:
$65 - QFR w/ Blues (Was on sale)
$110 - KBT Pure
$115 - DSA Retro
$10 - Keycap puller, stickers, etc
$260 - HHKB Pro 2 (just ordered)
~$20 - Shipping, taxes, and other stuff probably not included in there
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~$580
That's nearly $30/post :'(
-
Photekq and myself were actually calculating and doing this ourselves last week
by the end of next week, i will have hit $1500...scarey
You won't be satisfied until you have at least a room full of 60% boards :))
Stacked to the wall...some day...
-

Lol, is this tp4 trolling again?
Nah, I really think I need one. After hearing daerid's thoughts and myself imagining how close I could have my hands together while gaming by only using the left half of the ErgoDox, I think I really have to trash my MX keyboard and get me some ErgoDox. My main daily driver right now is a FC660C so in my mind the only thing that can trump Topre is an amazing ergonomic design.
-
Original post title should be changed to keyboard hobby. What about keycaps, click clacks, soldering equipment, keyboard parts (springs, stems, stickers), wrist rests, metallic stickers, and custom controllers? I'll just do keyboards in order I got them.
Logitech G15 v1 - ?
Logitech G15 v2 - ?
First mech was a Steelseries 7g - $150 when it first came out. Given away but kept the wrist rest.
Caught the vintage IBM bug and got a NIB Model M for $140.
NIB SSK - $410
Then I joined this forum just to get an acrylic Milestone wristrest ($40). Huge mistake.
Filco MJ2 TKL Ninja - $160
Corsair K60 got it on sale for $80 I think - I really wanted the rubber WASD keycaps, now they sell them seperately.
CM Storm QFR - $40 not including shipping. I could not pass up this price even though I am not a huge fan of blues.
Upcoming: 1x Phantom, 2xGH60, QFR Stealth with reds.
I still want to try a topre board, a matias TKL, backlit TKL (ducky shine 3 maybe), and definitely a korean custom.
So this puts me in the 1k plus group. This may double with that solid Gold case groupbuy coming up.
Just kidding - there is no solid Gold case group buy.
-
269 USD for Kinesis Advantage a year ago.
236 USD for Ergodox Kit + switch + keycap (If the final discount is reached in this 3rd round groupbuy)
100 USD for KBT Pure in the mail. But I think I'll sell this off immediately after getting so used to the efficient matrix layout. Staggered layout is just irrelevant.
-
There is no way I would admit this! I've just started on this journey and lost my mind! Between keycaps, boards, and group buys - not a pretty figure, Will sell some stuff after the GH60 comes out and my post count goes up! :)
-
Let's see.
Razer BWU: 130
WASD Keycaps: 50
KBT Pure: 120
CCnG: 60
Various Novelty Caps: 50
Realforce 103u: 170
Realforce 87u Type S: 280
Leo FC660C: 190
Cherry MX White Phantom: 260
WYSE Set: 105
Carrying Case for Pure: 10
CC's: 110
Total: $1525
Geez, I think I'm further into keyboards money wise than I am Car Audio :))
-
Too guilty to calculate :P
-
If we die and someone has to sell our stuff, they probably either recycle our keyboards or sell them for $2 each at a garage/estate sale. :(
-
After a year and a half less than $900. Not too bad compared to some.
-
I have been trying to avoid this.
Over the course of 3 and a half years or so, I have probably spent/traded $1,500+ and made $300-500 back.
Not much by a lot of people's standards, but I don't have a lot a spare cash.
And I have never owned a Topre or a Click Clack.
never owned a clack or a topre either...........
including keycaps and boards probably around 1500.00 give or take easy? i collect a lot of other stuff, so this is modest
not too bad i guess :-\

Never had a $100 CC either. I have to draw the line somewhere, and that's an easy one! I do have a Topre and like it even though it's so light. Now I just need to switch out the stock HHKB rubber domes for some 55g. :)

This thread makes me sick.
I have spent less than $200 on two keyboards. I mean I love keyboards as much as the next guy but how do you justify thousands of dollars?

Seriously... You realize that mechanical keyboard prices aren't exactly low? Some cost $200+ without any custom modifications (topre boards). It all adds up quickly if you want to try different things. Anything collectible implies a lot of money. Maybe you should look at art collecting--there prices range in thousands to millions of dollars. You should probably learn about the reality of hobbies and collecting things.
-
you guys are crazy for spending so much!
-
I've got 6 keyboards at this point.
Filco camo TKL (blues) = $125
Filco mj2 tkl (reds) = $104
Qfr (blacks) = $90 (including shipping)
Filco miniLA (browns) = $125
Hhkb pro 2 = $195
Ducky 1087XM = $40 (with shipping)
Crap bag = $40 (with shipping)
So that's... Like $600? I haven't done anything to anything but the qfr, so that's my adventure for the next few months. I've been into keyboards for a little over a year.

collector- the hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual.
keyboards appeal to some people more than others- sorry we make you sick.
like an art museum collects art, we collect specific keyboards, keycaps that are specially desirable to the person who is gathering those objects in one place.
-
Including the group buys I'm in on, about $470.
*including shipping
Filco MJ2 - $170*
Ducky Zero - $115*
Zinc Keycaps - $40*
Red O-Rings - $15*
UV Printed 8 Bit MegaMan, Commander Keen, Pac Man, Space Invader, & "Leaf" Group Buy - ~$60
Tai Hao 110 Coloured DS Set GB - $71*
-
Oh man.... Been here/buying for a little under a year and if I had to guess I'd say I'm at around $2000. I'm sure if I sat down and added it all up it would be more.
-
Just a note about mine, I've also sold a bunch of my stuff back to the community. For example, I got $80 back from the BWU, $80 for the Pure, $80 for CCnG, $120 for a pair of CC's, still have one, and $40 for some novelties. So technically I'm only at around $1100. Still a lot, but not terrible considering my collection and what I've been able to try out.
-
Wow, under a year and $2300
-
Wow.... you guys are crazy!! I spent about $1500 for two years... and even this makes me sick.....
-
like $200..... on keyboards... could've bought so many happy meals
-

Screw happy meals, go for McDouble's. $1 for a double cheeseburger. A nice unhealthy filling meal for $3.24 :))
-
My $600 looks like monopoly money compared to others..
-
about $2,200 lol
Worth every penny :P
-
Well over 100...still kinda new compared to most of y'all, but after spending some cash on a laptop...prolly going to spend about 1,000 on a new board and tricking out this Poker X to the max!
-
Looks around,
Too much?
-
Not that much.
-
I've spent:
$70 on a Leopold TKL with browns
$110 on a Poker II with blues
$8 for a switch sampler kit
So, a total of $188! I'm hoping to get a topre and an mx clear board sometime in the future. Also planning to buy a Das Keyboard soon as a gift :p
-
Did the math and was disappointed. I do not own a single clack or "rare" key, and have spent around $2900~ since September of last year.
-
I stopped for a bit but I think over 500$ and counting... This is under a year too, my wallet cries every night Dx
-
600 USD perhaps, I don't count.
-
$35 on my MS Ergo 4000. $0 on the salvaged IBM Model Ms. $0 on the saved SGI Granite (Alps). $0 on the Sun Type 5.
Eventually to be a bit more when I buy either a Noppoo Choc Mini or a Ducky (probably full size with PBTs).

Keyboards last longer than video cards. You'll find a keyboard you like soon enough, then you can save up.

And I have three and a fourth in production with my GH60. Doesn't mean that you won't reach a point where you're happy with what you have.

hahah yeah I am currentlyhappy with the ones I have, but I want to get me some more. At least 1 buckling spring at some point. I am getting a new filco and putting in cherry double shots on it so I can switch between that one and my PBT one at home.

... I'd prefer to think of the enjoyment I get from keyboards...
As some members have stated in terms of posts, then it's several pounds per post. Less than some others. I don't regret my spending.
-
$12 lol. I need a serious upgrade!
-
1388. Haven't even been part of the community for that long zzz. Doesn't count my soldering gear either, or the stuff from Sherry.
-
I should probably figure this up some day but I might get depressed.
-
I should probably figure this up some day but I might get depressed.
i could have bought a top tier headphone amp/dac or a 2014 top tier mountain bike with the money i spent on keyboards that after all really are duplicates--i only need one...
sentimental aside, i don't regret anything i did, life is too short to regret things
-
I should probably figure this up some day but I might get depressed.
Doesn't seem like there's much of a point! My estimate has changed since i last posted it by a significant amount :D

Yeah we all know I'm irresponsible with money so I figure I'll just spend it all then I don't have to worry about what to do with it. ;)
-
I did some calculations, and the numbers wasn't pretty, considering I don't own clacks. About 2-3k in total on keyboard stuff, including soldering and modification gear and miscellany like lube, springs, stickers, cosmetic changes.
Little bit of a shock, when I totaled it up. At the back of my mind I was pretty sure the total was much smaller.... especially since I'd stopped wanting anything after I got my ergodox. But still, there is a bright side - this is still a lot cheaper than if I had to go for carpal tunnel surgery, which I certain would've required if I continued working away with my stock boards. No regrets, especially considering the fact that I tried almost every cherry switch, BS and learnt a bunch of stuff while I was here.
-
Very cheap, especially if you had had the surgery, went back to the situation that caused the problem without making any changes and then had to give up your career...
-
approaching $2k........
-
Yea my original estimate in this thread was pretty far off too considering after all shipping costs, customs, parts and caps my LZ-GH cost me around $600. I'm well over $2k I'm sure of that now. All in 10 months or so. Plus all the soldering gear which I consider keyboard stuff since that's likely all I'll use it for. I like all my stuff but its certainly overkill. And I barely have anything compared to many people on GH. But I still need a Topre, I still need a full size, I still need a BS, an Alps, a numpad. That just about rounds out the collection quite nicely. The only bad part is I'm the type of person where if I'm going to have only one of something (eg. one Topre board) then I gotta go for something high end (eg. HHKB). It's silly, I know...
-
This is like asking a fat girl's weight, or a ****'s partner count.
There are likely only 3 categories of answers:
A) "uhh..."
B) "too much"
C) "not enough"
-
Uhm, less than on Audio or DSLR gear :3
-

same here. My bass rig alone costs more than all my keyboard stuff and that's just a very small drop in the bucket of gear I have in my studio. Not sure if that's supposed to make me feel better haha

One of my boards costs more than most people's total collection here.

Lets see. In approx order of getting them.
[Redacted for cheatcheats]
Total: ~$540
So approx $42/board
not bad.

I'm curious too!
Board only or including caps :p
-
I did a rough add up and came to around $1500. I figured I'd add around $500 for miscellaneous parts/caps, selling things at a loss or stuff I didn't think of.
I didn't include soldering gear or clacks. However I still have some stuff to pay for.....

Maybe we should open another thread for: how much have you spent on clacks :))

I know exactly how much I've spent on them and I was surprised at the average price per clack that I've paid. I though it was going to be more than it really was!
-
If only I can even get in on sales
And then I can say I have clackS.....
-
I'm probably close to $500 since the beginning of the year.

Since I have no family obligation being single, a non-smoker, and almost a teetotaler (I do drink on special occasions, like weddings, Christmas, New Year), I do have some spare change for my computer hardware. So, from last September till now, I have bought:
CM Storm Trigger x2 (Red and Green)
Armaggeddon MKA-3 Black Hornet (Cherry Red) - a spur of the moment buy
DS II 78 Version
DS II Special Ed with white key caps (Blue)
Ducky DK9087G2 Pro TKL with white PBT key caps
Filco MJ NINJA x2 (Black and Brown)
CM QF TK (Blue)
Lexmark Model M (circa 1993) - I just had to own a Model M, regardless of brand
Ducky DK9008 (Blue) - bought it and painted it white for the Miami key caps
Topre Realforce 103UB-55G
Have also reserved an aluminum YOTS and a HHKB Pro2 which I would pick up together when the YOTS is released sometime next month. I'm from Asia, and the price of some of these boards I'd gotten is above what the same one would cost in the US. For example, I'd paid something like 180+ USD for my 78 Version, and about 160USD for the Special Ed.......we get the shaft pricewise when it comes to hardware. How much did I pay for all? Ugh, more than I'd care to tally up....

Aw shoot! My bad :-[, I'd meant DS II 78 Version and DS II Special Ed. The DK9087G2 Pro is a plain Ducky TKL model. Ducky has not released a TKL DS 3 yet...
-
There are three numbers:
how much I paid for my stuff
how much is it worth
how much could I get if I sold it
I don't keep track of the the first one, and about the latter... I guess I'm somewhere between $500 and $1500 considering only things I own at the moment. My plan is to sell more or less everything except few modded/ergo boards until next year. I hope I won't lose too much.
