So I am trying to decide what I should ask to get for Christmas. The two main things I am debating over:
-Leopold F660C (cuz I wanna try Topre)
-Upgraded processor for my rig (minimum of an i5)
The F660C I want, but the processor I really could use since I only have a dual-core Pentium in my box right now.
Need opinions plz!

i5
or a train, everyone likes trains.
-
If you have the right socket, get the i5

Yeah my mobo is upgrade-able to an i7, forget what the socket is off the top of my head tho... LGA 1150 is it?
-
My i5 is an '55 socket, not 50

My i5 is an '55 socket, not 50
Haswell is 50, older i5 is 55 afaik
-
buy a new processor since I believe you already have a mechanical keyboard.
-
That's what my thought process was as well, but I was still on the fence...
Maybe I'll ask for both! :))

Sounds right, mine is the old but gold sandybridge.

Socks and a jumper.
Oh, what you'd /like/.

I got this little guy :thumb:
but its not even December!

My initial response was:
Ask for an i7! "Nothing succeeds like excess" - Oscar Wilde
BUT the Leopold will last you a lot longer than a CPU and it's more "tactile" (no pun intended, really) and more visible. Nicer for a gift than a CPU which is hidden away inside your PC. Will give you more warm fuzzies feeling the oneness with cup rubber and remembering the generosity and love of the giver.
Well, at least IMHO.

logic dictates you ask for both, while stipulating the processor over the keyboard if you only get one

Well the pup was ready at the breeders so didn't really have much choice as to when to get it ;)

Depends on the version of the processor. i5 and i7 means nothing if you don't specify the processor itself. It's just marketing. If you want a good processor for the money, look at benchmarks. My i5 2500K was around 4% slower than a 100$ premium i7 2600K, so I got the i5 and didn't regret it one piece. More so since my cpu is idle most of the time on most of it's cores...

Well said! :thumb:
I might ask for both considering I get like three Christmases every year (one with family, one at my mom's, and one at my dad's)

I7 :)
I want to try a Leopold too !

Yeah was thinking of asking for a i5 2500k, I have heard nothing but good things about those chips...

i7. and buy my realforce.

If you need to know exactly what socket you mobo is download CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com

My i5 2500K is amazing, but already 2 years old. I suggest going to Tom's hardware and look fore the monthly "best cpu for X$" and you will probably find the best one for your $ at the moment. 2500K is outdated for sure, but there's probably an equivalent right now. Still, if you motherboard does not support new ones, then I don't know that is best! I usually change all my stuff at once so that everything is balanced and keep it for like 4 years

you wouldn't get a 2500k "at this point" unless for $100-120..... which will be rare... and the board will still prob run $120-150
So you're better off with a 4770...

2500k doesn't even fit in 1150 lol
