Hello everyone, I am new here and joined because it seems like a great community for true PC gear enthusiasts. A couple of days ago, I picked up a Ducky DK9008 G2 Pro with PBT dye-subs keys and Cherry MX Brown switches. I wanted to share my experience with everyone! I have to be honest, at first, I hated this thing and immediately thought about returning it. The PBT keys felt very stiff and unforgiving and I did not like typing on it. I thought to myself that I would give it a chance though, try it for a couple of days and sleep on it. I am very glad I did, because it grew on me fast and now I love it ;D I also made the mistake of bottoming out on the Cherry Browns, when for these particular switches, it seems best to touch type, making use of the tactile bump. Once I began doing that and got used tot he PBT keys, this thing is heaven! It is very solid and of a high quality make, with full NKRO on USB (I don't know how the hell they accomplish that), WASD backlit keys and more. I think my money was well spent here, and I hope this thing can last for years.
I guess i can say as a recommendation to those who have never tried PBT's; if you do, give them a chance before making a snap judgement. This is the best keyboard I have ever owned, and after coming off of a Blackwidow with Cherry Blues, this thing is heaven. I also feel it was a worthwhile investment buying the dye-sub PBT board. I mean after all, why buy a mechanical keyboard capable of 50,000,000 key strokes if your ABS keys are going to wear out in 25,000? lol. That's like buying a car that promises a 500k mile engine, but the rest of the car breaks after 80k ;)

Money well spent

Welcome to Geehkack!
With a little care and caution (especially keep the sticky liquids away from it!) there is no reason why this keyboard should not last you 10 years or more.
Of course by then you will be curious about other switch types, and probably have a small collection of boards.

In fact, as much as I genuinely love this site and people whom I have gotten to know, I am thinking of deliberately changing my password to a set of random numbers that I don't record, then logging out, and never (and never being able to) come back again. I have spent way too much money and need to stay away!

Too late, he just saw all those words and you have now sparked his interest. Now he'll have to prepare his wallet... :-X
And how can you forget Hammer? Titanium spacebars, cases.. Oops :))

This was also my choice as a first mechanical keyboard.
I love it.
My spacebar does kinda of a weird sound though. I wonder if i should 'oil' it with something ???
Also i wish there was a way to have white LEDs instead of blue for the WASD... I read on this forum that you can do it but i will most likely end up with a burn hand and a broken keyboard...

White and blue are close enough in voltage that you can probably just swap them out. If you are okay to be without your KB for a bit, I'm sure there is someone here who can do the work for you.
To both you and the OP: seems to be an excellent choice! I had to fight hard not to buy one of my own.

I fail to understand how Ducky can ship ugly blue LEDs with a grey keyboard and red translucent WASD keys. Make the keys blue then... or put some white LEDs :)
That said, the grey dyesub PBT keys are flawless.

" this thing is heaven! It is very solid and of a high quality make, with full NKRO on USB (I don't know how the hell they accomplish that)," when you will check ur device manager u'll see at least two keyboards, basically NKRO is done by that (thanks to that).

Welcome, I don't know how to touch type and most of the time, I think I bottom out but even then I love mechanical keyboards for the solid feel it gives me. And when I bottom out I know it can withstand the abuse I throw at them. But what berserkfan said is true. Run away before you get addicted!

Very nice. Post a picture of your board :)
BTW, where did you get yours? Its sold out at http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/

don't encourage him. Once he posts photos, he will want to see others' photos.
And from then on, it is downhill all the way.
There is only one future that awaits him at the end of this road. It's bankruptcy court. :))

Thank you for the awesome welcome everyone. I can tell this will be a good forum to geek out on a bit :thumb: One question I have for you guys - I was changing out the WASD to the red ones for the backlights and they were pretty hard to press onto the board. I really had to give it some pressure to get them all the way on. I felt like I was going to damage it! Is that a concern, or is that completely normal? Could I damage something changing out key caps pressing to hard?

I will do asap! I am at work atm and can't post any. It's a beauty though. I did actually get it at Mechanicalkeyboards.com, but there was only one of this exact model left in stock at the time (less than a week ago), so I may have gotten the last one they had! Believe it or not, I spotted a couple of these on Newegg but they seem to be a limited quantity. Maybe check over there too if you're interested :)

I know what you mean with the space bar and I can explain why. I was a little concerned about the extra slight "stiffness" of the spacebar and sound also but found out there are stabilizers installed under it that cause this. Its so you can press the bar on either end and it will still depress, unlike Razer mech keyboards that just have the switch dead center and it feels like a teeter totter when you touch the edges.

lol, uh oh. I can tell that joining here may end up being expensive at some point. I am very happy with this new purchase though and don't see another keyboard purchase for a while. I have tried a lot of other Cherry switches and have found that (so far) the browns are my favorite. The reds and blacks were too linear for me, and while the reds felt nice, they just went straight down with no bump or anything for typing. I liked the blues, but only for typing really. I saw no benefit for gaming with those really

I took a few photos as promised :) Sorry for the crappy quality, I only have my phone and it doesn't take the best pics. You can tell from the photos though, the quality and sharpness of the dye-sub keys is high and more than I expected! I read about anti-aliasing and blurry type with dye-subs, but there is none of that with the Ducky.

EXPENSIVE? It is my opinion that the vast majority of the people who leave this site, do so because after a year or two they discovered they spent 4-5k on keyboards and keyboard items, feel awful (or are made to feel awful by bill collectors), sell out for maybe 3k and never come back so that they can preserve their solvency.

More like 6 months, haha.

Hey Spamray, you are still solvent after 5000+ posts. What did you do? Build your own keyboards and sell them for $500 each to recoup your costs? :thumb:

My current daily is a MX Green version of yours and I love it. I didn't put the red WASD on it though.

Too bad they decided to discontinue this.
If they produce a TKL version it would be the ultimate keyboard that you can just buy and forget about customizing it.
As good as my realforce topre is, I wish its keycap would be thicker. And there is no after market thick keycap for it.

who am I kidding? ;D

Yes! Completely. Geekhack gave me cancer. And buying a topre keyboard only seems to be the cure
like the cure. And i cant afford it !!!!! :( type heave

Type heaven any good guys? Filco blue board vs cm mech aluminium ? Pls tell me ur thoughts guys. Thanks :D

Next on your list are tkl or 60 per cent board. Full size simply force an over reaching of your right arm which is a pain. Tkl will give you better posture better yet with 60 percent board. For topre I havet got one but there's a strong followers.
-
DON'T go the aluminium route.
Once you have one colour of aluminium, you will want another. Very soon you will have 10 casings in different colours, and no money in your bank account.
A Topre is not the only cure. Rubber domes for $5 are the cure.
(you can tell that my pocket is hurting badly.)
