Yeah, I remember burning DVDs as a child. Good memories. Maybe I'll take my children out camping and we can burn some DVDs together over a campfire.Show Image(http://static.videomaker.com/sites/videomaker.com/files/styles/vm_image_token_lightbox/public/videonews/2013/02/melted_DVD_1182741_85751031.jpg?itok=5frGje7K)
In Russia the DVDs burn you.

Hehe, I could be wrong but I think DVD/CD writing speeds maxed out because the media simply couldn't spin much faster. There are some videos of optical media exploding spectacularly when spun too fast. I remember a few cases of people who had DVDs explode in their drives because of this same effect.
What were you doing that required you to burn a DVD? I haven't done it in years as well.
I have a spindle where I put used/old/bad CD's & DVD's. Once a year we hook them up to a Dremel and turn them into spinning objects of destruction.

Now that's an idea! I saw high-speed footage once of this and the distortion they endure before they finally shatter is pretty amazing.

We also knock them off the Dremel to watch them shoot down the street. One year we got some old golf clubs and took turns hitting them as they rolled past.
