I backup photos to DVD.  I should do it more often.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah, I remember burning DVDs as a child.  Good memories.  Maybe I'll take my children out camping and we can burn some DVDs together over a campfire.

Hehe, I could be wrong but I think DVD/CD writing speeds maxed out because the media simply couldn't spin much faster. There are some videos of optical media exploding spectacularly when spun too fast. I remember a few cases of people who had DVDs explode in their drives because of this same effect.

What were you doing that required you to burn a DVD? I haven't done it in years as well.

I have a spindle where I put used/old/bad CD's & DVD's. Once a year we hook them up to a Dremel and turn them into spinning objects of destruction.

I had to burn a disk today, cuz when people look at asians, they see "free-software" "DAT GUY"....

But honestly.. all the kids know how to get free software these days..  IDK why people don't just ask their kids.

Now that's an idea! I saw high-speed footage once of this and the distortion they endure before they finally shatter is pretty amazing.

u can't see the distortion without slowmo.. it just looks like fast flutter, and then crack..

We also knock them off the Dremel to watch them shoot down the street. One year we got some old golf clubs and took turns hitting them as they rolled past.
