Title: Wall of Shame
Post by: tormentor on Mon, 16 December 2013, 11:58:53
Daniel messaged.

Dear Snoopy,

I'm sorry. I was a jerk, please don't bring it out on the community. I'm just frustrated with what happened with daniel and it sent me over the top. I shouldn't of lashed out at you, you did everything a seller could do.

So far I've had success....some things took a while to get sorted but so far I'm good with all my trades and deals, hope to keep it that way.

danielucf - initiated a trade of my pink leaf cc mx for his red alert v1 bro bot. Haven't heard from him in over a week and I sent my cap out 3 weeks ago (he lives in florida mind you, it doesnt take 3 weeks to ship within the state)

snoopy - bought a blue brobot on 10/13. it's 12/16 and I'm waiting on a paypal claim (that should tell you a lot).

Is it really my fault when something gets lost on the way from ger to US?

USPS actually. My parcel didn't even turn up and when I tracked apparently it was sent back to mechkeyboards because I didn't claim it. Wut wut ?
I'm beginning to think those mailman's didn't even try to deliver it in the first place. le sigh. holiday mails, such a bad idea.

Please don't write off all of GH due to one poster. The vast majority of us have had nothing but positive experiences buying/selling on here.

To be fair to snoopy we did use paypal which should take care of itself. I don't know what your definition of tracking is but it sitting on preparing for shipment from origin destination for 2 months isn't tracking or any sort of confirmation.

I have had only good experiences trading here.

Personally, I do not hold sellers responsible for shipping problems, particularly if they package the product properly and have documentation of when and where it was shipped.

Yes, they messed it up at a certain point, but that's not my fault. I got all the paper stuff here that confirms that I delivered it to the postoffice and I additionally have all the paperstuff from the currently ongoing inquiry. Can't do anything more. I can't even refund you, cause Paypal locked the money. And I will not send additional money.

But yeah I know, as you wrote on paypal, you blame me that the tracking is fake/invalid or whatever... but won't discuss that anymore.

This can happen a lot with International packages. I think you're being a serious ******* by calling out snoopy's name for tracking problems. He never scammed or ripped you off.

snoopy risking his GH reputation over a sale of a blue brobot with a "fake" tracking code? Nope don't believe it.

You need to learn some constraint, tormentor. If you ever want to deal on here again, this kind of stuff will definitely discourage people from trading with you.

What is a tracking number that tells you nothing? Invalid would be a appropriate word. I approached you and you asked me to wait even longer when I initially became concerned so I did. At no point in time did you say "I guess it's lost, let me go ahead and claim my insurance and I'll refund you" How was I supposed to know your origin post had failed you if you left me in the dark? The internet is a messed up place where you have to assume the worse and hope for the best.

Doesn't make snoopy a 'scammer' or someone that ripped you off. I have gotten lots of packages from Germany that say the same thing. 'Origin post is preparing shipment' - for 2 months I had to wait for it to show up in the mail. So don't call peoples names out without considering these things first.

Lie, cheat, and steal,  once they've done this enough, they attempt to banish others from pursuing the same route as their own ascension.. they become the country, the become the law.

This ^^ is an incorrect view of liars, cheaters, and thieves...

In the end our battle is with nature, the petty rivalry between individuals is merely our animalistic short sightedness.

What else are you supposed to do? Sit back and take it? Hell no. I created a thread a few months back asking what the safest way to trade would be as the current method is EXTREMELY flawed. You know what my responses consisted of? Shame them here so the community knows. I omitted the original post apologizing to Snoopy before anyone else comments on how I wrongly called him/her out.

I think the issue is when people are clearly online posting etc and they ignore users seeking help after a deal has been made.

It might not be dishonest or scamming but it definitely makes a person not want to trade/buy/sell with someone like that.

And if user are like that people should be made aware....

I don't see it as a personal attack to state facts of a trade gone wrong.

The actual sadness comes from the fact that sometimes a public "shaming" is sometimes necessary to open up any communication between the affected parties, e.g. The_Profosist's Phantom assembly/parts GB.

For all your talk about "what's best for community", you seem awful quick to jump on the shame wagon.  Especially for a member with 0 long term issues, but with known issues in getting trades out "promptly". (To clarify, I'm talking about daniel with the last part)

I'm not saying they shouldn't update their thread for two months, I'm saying if someone just stops posting on the forum entirely for two months and you have given them a few hundred dollars, It might get a bit worrisome.

Honestly to me the issue is when people refuse to respond, but in daniel's defense I know he has had some personal family things etc from reading his posts, but still any response is better than none.

If your covered up and real life has you by the balls (sorry ladies), just say so.....most people will understand, things happen. For me I try and be up front with people that it might take a few days for me to ship things out as I personally can't get to the post office while they are open so I have to get things sorted by other means. And I also try and ask people how quickly they can ship when I buy/trade.

I'm so spoiled by Amazon by the 3rd day after I order anything from anywhere I get antsy :p

tl;dr: communication is very important

there's always "personal issues" or "family problems".  It doesn't excuse anything.  Even if my own mother was in the hospital, I could find two minutes during an entire week to simply send a message saying "hey, I know I have your money but here is what happened and it should be fixed in this many days".

You think the electric company or Verizon or Comcast would care?  No they would not.  They'd disconnect your ass and send that bill to collections.

The only problems I've had with post office was a mk.com package shipped via priority arriving one day late.
thanks so much for your input, it definitely adds to the information being presented.

thought we were talking about post office screwing us over and I wanted to say I haven't been severly screwed over yet

That's why we don't ask you to think, clearly.

there's always "personal issues" or "family problems".

I don't understand why some members have a preconceived notion that other individual members of this forum, most of who have jobs and other obligations, have the same capacity to be immune to external situations in the same manner as large corporations. Since this is a hobbyist forum, the projects created here are for personal enjoyment and shared with members of similar interests.

Nobody likes to be held at the whim of another person, but that is the price you pay for not doing it yourself. Don't like how someone is running a groupbuy? volunteer to help them ease the hardship, try to help find a solution and add something positive to the situation. As enthusiasts, we all have the same goal in mind, to get what we want as soon as possible with as little problems as possible. Complaining about situations out of someone's control is uneventful and only deters groupbuy holders from wanting to deal with the headache in the future.

I feel like if you want to sell your stuff or organize a GB, you should only do so if you are capable of doing so. But when unexpected situations arise, focus on those personal issues first. But if you know a personal issue will pop up, don't sell your stuff

I don't think one can expect a death in the family ahead of time.....or one of a million other things.

But the key here is people need communication....they need to know they have not been ripped off....

Also HUGE difference between selling your stuff in the classifieds and running a group buy.

I've never gotten ripped off here... yet. The worst thing I've had happen was a user decided to let me know they are backing out of a deal by refunding my money with zero explanation and then blocking me. Not gonna name names, because in the grand scheme of things that's not that bad.

besides the fake clacks going around , balanar's kmac purchase, and the weird taobao agent/mmb incident, I have not really hear much over the years.

Not because I hate drama (which I do), but because I spent all of 10 seconds on this avatar, which I am now stuck with.

Is this the new "extortion" (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=47669.0) thread?

No, this is apparently how you get their attention when they aren't responding. Minus snoopy, which people are still referring to despite my apology. Also, Nope. Wrong thread, that one made no sense.

This seems excessive and it's sad a mod has deemed it appropriate content.  I thought personal attacks were against ToS.  I have the warnings to prove it.

I'm not attacking anyone who I am not currently having a bad exchange with. If it was just some dispute I had on someone's opinion or character I wouldn't of posted. It's business.

I don't understand what CalmDepths has done or did wrong?? Don't most GB organizers go MIA while key caps are in production?

2 months MIA was a bit excessive imo.

It does seem like a long time. I'd be freaking if they didn't communicate. It's all we got while we're waiting for our hard earned caps/whatever to arrive.

This is the problem with public shaming threads--once you post something, people see it and may not see the end result, and they only have selective memory, in general.  You need to be really sure that you want to post something like this--with justification.

I can't see the future. As humans, we make emotional mistakes. But being able to admit those mistakes is one of those many things that seperate us. I really was patient with Snoopy, regardless what happened in the end I'll get my money back so it wouldn't of made a difference to smear snoopy but he doesn't have a heatware so how else would any of known about my negative experience?

Honestly, regarding your other person, as I believe snoopy is definitely innocent. (Me and Bunnylake both have one missing package each from sending stuff to each other, It's really just the post offices fault.) So you should just take his name off the front page which is what he cares about. You will get your money back, and you can't blame him because he really did send it.

On the other hand, I agree there is no excuse to go no contact for weeks at a time yet have the time to buy and sell things and communicate with potential traders. I mean really, what excuse is there?

It's not fair to danielucf. As far as I understand, he's a very busy man who has (I suspect) overcommitted himself to all kinds of projects. This is definitely not the first time people have complained that Daniel didn't get back to them, or that they paid something and he became uncontactable, but he is not dishonest and he probably just gets too many PMs everyday in addition to his daily life emails and other messages.

danielucf - initiated a trade of my pink leaf cc mx (my first and only CC until I get my green leaf from John...)for his red alert v1 bro bot. Haven't heard from him in over a week and I sent my cap out 3 weeks ago (he lives in florida mind you, it doesnt take 3 weeks to ship within the state)

Fine, I see this topic will be controversial but I will not step down from what I have said about daniel. If he wants to clear his name and resolve this he needs to message me.

Dear Snoopy,

I'm sorry. I was a jerk, please don't bring it out on the community. I'm just frustrated with what happened with daniel and it sent me over the top. I shouldn't of lashed out at you, you did everything a seller could do.

But if people can't be bothered and/or are too busy then they don't need to trade and/or sell things.....

I have two very ill children at home and the last two nights have been up most of the night but I still managed to mod, package and ship a keyboard I traded.

but spamray, danielucf runs group buys that we all like. And lots of the group buy guys wind up getting so busy they don't respond well to PMs. Based on this logic, most group buys would wind up being disbanded because the group buy organizer got his name stuck on some wall of shame.

just for the record, on various group buys I have found the organizer took a while to get back on various PMs after I'd paid. It never seemed like a scam or anything.

And as for sick kids, I find that leaving them alone tends to work out better. Sick kids either want to sleep, or they get very grouchy and have to be left alone to knock over their building blocks and scream and toss them around. You sitting down next to them won't do your sanity (and usually your ears) any good.

Well lately group buy organizers who go MIA have been shamed...and has daniel ran a group buy recently?? toxic doesn't count its like the never end story of group buys.

snoopy

I know OP has retracted his claims against you. But just to share my experiences, I can say that international tracking is often very flawed and even highly reputed postal systems (UK Royal Mail; Deutsche Post; Singapore Post) have screwed up. I have been given 'fake' tracking numbers several times, and also given out a 'fake' tracking number twice.

Furthermore when somebody is using a proxy shipper, it often adds to the mess!

To be fair to snoopy we did use paypal which should take care of itself. I don't know what your definition of tracking is but it sitting on preparing for shipment from origin destination for 2 months isn't tracking or any sort of confirmation.

I'm not sure if the way it is written is as intended, but if you read what berserkfan wrote ...

...Mail; Deutsche Post; Singapore Post) have screwed up. I have been given 'fake' tracking numbers several times, and also given out a 'fake' tracking number twice.

... it  sounds like he gave out fake tracking numbers twice.  That may not be the intended message, but it is written in such a way that it could be interpreted that way.

The intended meaning could be he got useless/fake tracking numbers from the vendor, and passed that information on, but the wording does not specifically state that.

By "fake" I think he means "inaccurate". If you give out a truly (intentionally) fake tracking number, you're just asking for trouble...

I was given a fake tracking number by a geekhacker once, I don't know if it was intentional or not but they kept putting off shipping my stuff so it's likely it was on purpose. Also it wasn't anybody in this thread.

I've been given a 'fake' tracking number by EK, the item arrived even tho the number says its still being processed through USPS facilities ^-^

I'd just like to add, for future reference, that "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment" does not mean that the item is still with the sender.  It means the item is already in the U.S. or about to be in the U.s. and is being prepared to be forwarded to a U.S. mailing agent.  Items arrive in cargo of planes, ships, whatever, and are then scanned, processed, and forwarded to the destination shipping agency.  Here's a reply from a postal worker:

"It means that the origin Post is preparing a shipment for dispatch. basically manifesting packages heading for the US. Most often, a foreign post will merge all of the packages going to one country and list a manifest of each individual package and their tracking numbers, if applicable.

Once the container is full enough, it is passed to be dispatched. When the container is scanned, the status of all of the packages on the manifest will update.
...

For example, right now, I'm waiting for a package from Korea.  Here's the tracking:

December 18, 2013 , 3:16 am   Processed Through Sort Facility ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS)
Origin Post is Preparing Shipment
December 17, 2013 , 1:02 am Processed Through Sort Facility SEOUL INTERNATIONAL POST OFFICE, KOREA REPUBLIC OF
December 16, 2013 , 11:12 pm Processed Through Sort Facility KOREA REPUBLIC OF
December 16, 2013 , 6:41 pm Acceptance KOREA REPUBLIC OF

As you see, the package has landed on the U.S. soil and is being passed to USPS by EMS.

Dutch customs.

Imported keyboad stuff. I have to pay BTW (our version of VAT) after already paying VAT. Then they slap me with an unreasonably high customs administration charge, and finally they sometimes like to add extra special charges depending on the type of product you are importing.

The BTW is over both the price of the product and the cost of shipping BTW. And all of this also goes for products for which there is no domestic or EU alternative.

Has anyone ever sold to the user soymic?

He has 4 posts, and he wants to buy my Sanctuary set.

But I didn't want to send to China for someone I don't know. He ended up sending me the money through paypal as goods, with a different address in California. But its unconfirmed. Does that mean if I send him the package with tracking, he can't do a chargeback or anything? I just want to know if I'll be protected in this situation.

but this looks pretty shady. when I sell to people sub 60 I tell them they pay as gift or no deal

I don't think you would be protected unless you send to a PayPal confirmed address.

Did they write the US address inside the paypal payment note? IF so I would imagine you could just refer paypal to that and simply say you sent it as instructed by the buyer with the tracking number. I sell to Chinese several times that have something in Industry City California as their address, it's some sort of reshipping service.

Yeah that's exactly where its going. The us address wasn't in the notes but in the actual transaction. You think im safe? Unverified though.

tell them that you have 900+ posts, they have 4 and no heatware at all, and that you should take gift. otherwise don't sell unless you need the money really badly

Oh, it's the address they have on file with paypal. Yes, I would say you should be totally fine, it's what they have as the address, and with tracking to that address they can't claim non delivery. If they try to claim some other way like claim defect or wrong item, then they would have to return it to you with proof of delivery otherwise paypal will not side with them.

I'm pretty sure they can't get money back no matter what of they pay through gift. Which is why it says "only use this for sending money to friends or family." I could be very wrong though.

I wouldn't go with a forwarding service myself for anything expensive.  My LZ-GH was sold by the original seller to someone in China, and they asked for it to be shipped to their forwarding service in California (he didn't know that the keyboard would go to China after California).  The keyboard got damaged in shipping to China from California, and the buyer got all his money back from PayPal, even though it wasn't the seller's fault.

That is why you pay the extra 3.4% surcharge and go Goods payment ONLY.  That way if the seller decides to get nasty you wait 45 days and do the call-back.  Simple really.  If the seller did honestly send the item it should arrive in another week or two because Paypal is still very generous in allowing an extra fortnight to pass by before they refund you.

So if no one can send an item anywhere in the world beyond 59 days in total, then they should not be selling anything here at all.

Not talking about protection from bad sellers... talking about from bad buyers. Paypal isn't really too good about giving sellers any protection and never the benefit of the doubt even when you are clearly in the right. There is very little stopping bad buyers from scamming sellers. Though, I have never lost a dispute as a seller yet. It is annoying having to wait potentially months for paypal to return the funds to you.

I think you have 2 protections if any claim raised.
First, you receive a payment as gift. Gift is a simple plain gift, we cannot claim back something as gift
Second, you have proof of delivery to a CONUS address. It is the crucial evidence if any claim raised.
Well, I think you don't need to worry too much about this case, in my opinion at least.

Paypal won't refund but that doesn't stop the person doing a charge-back on their card.

I never face or do something like this but in term of financial transaction, I think when we received a payment from Paypal, it is the final end-point of a transaction.

If any charge-back happened (even if it is illegal), the credit card company must contact Paypal to do the charge-back. I think Paypal received 3% fee as a middle man to protect both sides of a transation so Paypal must be responsible for any dispute or claim happened.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is what I understand and it is somehow explained by Paypal here :
