Title: Resisting Instant-Noodles
Post by: tp4tissue on Thu, 16 October 2014, 15:29:46
Can this be done ?

This is the last thing in my diet that is highly-refined, I don't eat it often these days, but the allure of it  is there 24/7

Possibly addicted...

Tostinoes are 1.99 here, and that's about 7 ramen. Those are the cheapest frozen 'pizza's I know of.

I have this issue a lot. I usually go for one of the following

1. dry cereal
2. granola bar
3. Feed my addiction to fruit. There was a time when I was having 5+ apples a day.

3 is the most common, but I'm starting to cut back.

I found out at school where I had packed myself a spare in with my lunch and tried to sneak-eat it in language arts class. As soon as I started peeling it, the spray from the peel broke out on my arm/hand really badly. I was like: WTF is this I'm allergic to oranges? what will I do with my life! I managed to hold out until friday and was okay.

The story behind that is Grandma got me an entire box of clementines for christmas, which also explains why there were still some left after I quit eating them for 2 days.

Anyway: TP4: develop an addiction to healthy food. It's still tasty and way better! Fruit is good because it's supposed to be good for you and it's not filling so you can basically just eat in whenever.

This may not sound appealing though trust me it is, make your noodles in the water and what not, add the flavouring while they're in the water. Once they're 'cooked' drain the water. Now the fun part, add a can of tuna and canned corn. Maybe sprinkle some paprika if you're feeling up to it. Stick down at your desk, open up geekhack and enjoy.

I haven't boiled noodles in ages.

I soak them in cold water, then stir fry the soft but uncooked noodles with some veggies and possibly some tofu if I have some. Whisk the spice/broth/MSG pack with some starch (flour) and water and add that late as sauce to thicken it all at lower heat. I also spice it with ginger and soy sauce. This serves two.
As veggies go, I love Pok Choi but that is only available in Asian food stores.

That's how an adult would ramen..... It also significantly decreases the amount of ramen consumed given the rather large increase in prep time..

The processed foods is all chemicals, toxic chemicals.

Can it be done, yes, if you read about what those chemicals do to you, you won't ever touch the stuff and laugh at those that do.

You can always make REAL noodles, you know, the authentic kind that are WORTH enjoying from a real artisan noodle maker. Not this cardboard garbage they manufacture in an industrial processing plant.

Want some more MSG with those ramens? How about some Herbicide and Agent Orange (Enlist Duo).

Sheesh.

but the healthier ones take longer to cook vs Instant..

Instant noodle-addiction is a combination of  quick-gratification + deliciousness

we own a vintage pasta press. It's quite nice. Making your own pasta isn't too hard, but often the store bought stuff is just as good.
