only in Cali is foie gras outlawed, not the food itself, but the force feeding thing. Was there ever a thing against oysters?

Must be a legacy of the Freedom Fries era if there is an embargo against oysters.

As for force feeding, I think there was plenty going on at Guantanamo also.

On this subject, I got a baguette while out for lunch one day a few months ago; when I returned to work, a coworker asked what I had and I mentioned the baguette.  His response was "What the hell?? Just say you had *bread*! Why do you need to sound all fancy with your baguette?!"

Well I'm speaking of baguette because of the french stereotype , but it's basic bread to us .

I like "pain de campagne " a lot more :

If you're speaking about Charlie Hebdo , I'm thankfully nowhere near that .

But hey , if you keep on bothering people that aren't afraid to kill , It's not freedom of speak that will stop bullets .
They had been threatened multiples times and one of their building sets on fire .

I'm not saying they deserve it , they played with fire and got (very very very very very badly ) burned .

Ok "JambonFort" build log:

What you need :
- One dank baguette
- Ham
- butter
- One dank cheese (here I'm using Beaufort (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaufort_cheese), but Comté or Emmental  can do)

Slice the baguette in the middle.

Put butter in one half

Cut pieces of cheese , little trick, you want the cheese to be out of the fridge for at least half an hour, so the cold don't hinder the flavor of it

Put the ham and the cheese in it

Enjoy !

I know, man.  I'm literally the worst.  I tried to be an inconsiderate ******* and I can't even do that properly.  :(

I took three years in high school.  :)  I never really applied myself though, so I didn't learn as much as I should have.  Does it show?  :-[ :))

I'm definitely interested in re-learning, and getting better.  Maybe one of these Frenchies could help me out.  ;)

French bread sir, french bread. Seriously though the bread you find in France as nothing to do with the one in USA or UK. I don't know if it comes from the ferment we use or something alike. You have a real crunchy crust and the inside is so good as well.

I've been to France and had cheeses there, I can honestly say I'm not much of a cheese person so it's like wine and the ones I like mostly taste the same and the ones I don't like are horrible lol

And you can get fresh French bread pretty much all over the world, it's not some magic recipe...

Well I lived several months in USA and a year in UK, even in organic shop I couldn't find the same type of bread. It was not white bread but it still felt like brioche, very soft even though it looked like it has a crust on the top. In the end it still felt like a non sweet brioche. It is like the cheese you find in English countries, it has nothing to do with French cheese because you cannot use raw milk in these countries. So the difference comes definitely from the recipe, at least for cheese. I'll ask to my baker if there is a difference in ingredients in the bread recipe.

Also perhaps I didn't find the good places to take french bread but then it is not as easy to be found as you suggest IMO.

There are always difference in terms of quality for any product in any country. I don't think you can say "ham is ham". Personally I don't consider the ham I buy in any supermarket to be equivalent to a homemade one but still it is ham. But then it is just a matter of personal preferences so as long as you like it you're good to go.

Why is there only butter on one half, and only ham on one half, and WTF is even going on there?

Damn French doing things halfway.

The only French I know comes from the ridiculous frankenstein Solitaire I have on my Windows 7 computer because the version they introduced with Vista onwards SUCKS. So with the help of the googlez since I didn't have an XP or earlier machine to gank it from I have this abortion of a Windows 2000 French sol.exe and someone's homemade CARDS.DLL that uses the Vista card art. It's ghetto as hell but it works, except when it glitches like old Solitaire does sometimes even on a proper instance of it. lulz two ace of clubs fml.

So like, Partie, Donne, Annuler, Redistribuer, Jeux, Quitter, Sommaire, Aide sur, Utiliser l'aide, Ŕ propos du Soiltaire...

I tried to find some Beaufort, but that was the closest I could find.

I can imagine. Even for the Comté, I had to head to the nicer boutique cheese shop for it :P

The Comté was really nice too, I like slicing it into strips/cubes and eating it plain. I think alpine cheeses are my new favourite.

You have some pretty nice cheese taste! One I like even more than Comté is the Swiss Gruyere. So damn good!

I've had some of the most memorable moment when I was in French late last year
memorable food since I love French food, cheese and wine

Diggin in some old photos:

Best pork dish I've ever eaten so far at LE COMPTOIR DU RELAIS SAINT-GERMAIN, Pig trotters, stuffed and deep fried

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/498/19463499013_e2aef76278_o.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/vDVwac)
Pig trotters (https://flic.kr/p/vDVwac) by Hanshen (https://www.flickr.com/photos/jokrik/), on Flickr

Oh and what's more romantic than this, took my wife to Paris for her birthday, blow the candle at Ladurée (apparently girls go mad over their macarons), shopped at Champs Elysées

Never seen her more happy

Damn you French people with all your food, cheese, wine and romantic places

There are some people (suppliers or customers, I don't know) speaking French at work right now.  I'm trying to decipher, but all I hear is "Il y a" ... "Qu'est-ce que c'est?" ...

Is it what she said?

My assumption is that Azerty is trully masterrace but only a few people are worthy to type on it. Like I know several frenchman who switched to qwerty (cough Ngt cough) because they can't handle the beauty of the layout.
Also they're too weak to browse every single Leboncoin(craiglist equivalent) keyboard ad in the hope to find cherry or worthy caps.

Vesper tried it, he got confused and ever since he's not the same he hardly comes here. It's an experience that can destroy some people.

The problem with QWERTY is that it doesn't have the accent. It is fine to switch to it if you don't write anymore french. Otherwise it is such a pain in the ass to have all your sentences empty of all accent. Just plain boring.

That's a good point for French/non-english typing.  You can always do alt-codes, but those are incredibly obnoxious.

And anyway ISO has one more key, so you always have to figure out where to remap it when you move from ISO to ANSI.

stupid imo, sry Ngt but we discussed about it a lot already.

Yeah no hard feeling don't worry. The only reason I switched to ANSI is in order to take part in all these sweet GBs we have in the community. I was sick of moving heaven and hell just for an ISO set. I don't even mention if you want an AZERTY ISO one. So no regret so far. Soon I'll have a custom coming in so I'll do some hybrid ISO/ANSI perhaps.

Technically they are talking about alt bindings, not codes.

By the way, I used to think that the only language in the world more ****ed up than English is French, but after some time in the UK I'm not so sure.
