I mean, if you're competing against someone to finish quicker I guess it could be. Your definition is far too loose..
Is fapping a sport by your definition?

Maybe I can get a scholarship for competitive eating. Would you support that?
is cap collecting a sport?
Sport nounagain I ask, if chess is considered a sport, what distinction can you make that would render esports not a real sport?
: a contest or game in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other
: a physical activity that is done for enjoyment
from the dictionary

is cap collecting a sport?
Exactly
most discussions really on using the definitions of certain things as they are at that moment. The discussion here is whether by today's standards esports should or should not be considered a sport. 100 years from now, the answer may be different, but that has no bearing on the discussion todaySport nounagain I ask, if chess is considered a sport, what distinction can you make that would render esports not a real sport?

just stop this.. it's pointless to argue definitions.. since they're always flowing.. not set in stone.

Exactly
Except in cap collecting, you don't physically or mentally train, or spend hours training to collect.
Well I think naasfu would be the undisputed world champion thereis cap collecting a sport?

I'd add though that I'd never want to consider swearing douche bags you occasionally see playing CoD in tournaments at all worthwhile. It's disgraceful how some behave, and no better than any 11 y/o's. Manners and professionalism or gtfo.

We are really getting off-topic here, but why are parent's buying their 11yo COD in the first place. They wouldn't be able to walk into a store and get it themselves until they were 16 anyway.

Its funny and an interesting argument
I personally have never played football or soccer or football (soccer) or basketball. I played tennis, did boxing and wrestling (all single person sports as a kid).
I don't really have much of an interest in any team sports, but I will happily sit there a watch a game of football, or soccer or football (soccer) and enjoy it. On the other hand I love playing Battlefied etc. but fudge me I would rather lick my dogs taint then sit there and watch some little kid play BF4 for some world title.
Sport has the advantage of staying power. Its always there and has a long history with some clubs in existance for over 100 years and more or less the game will not become obsolete (a bold statement if there are any historians out there).
Computer games on the other hand (except for WOW for some freak reason) have a life span and eventually become outdated so it will be interesting to see if the games are adjusted as years pass etc. you wouldn't want to invest time in a game and have it withdrawn from the program lel.
I'm really hoping for some sort of population reducing deathmatch once the planet starts to run out sustainable of food.

If fat Americans ate less meat and **** made from corn, we could easily feed the world population twice over.

Welll...... yes and no... because at the current rate of growth.. we're ****ed..
So... by NOT feeding a portion of the population.. we're saving the future generations from starvation..

Football is boring dude..
I predict Esport will be the only sports type left in the future..
It's cheaper to promote, it's cheaper to manage, equipment, space, EVERYTHING is cheaper than football..
and you know what.. It has a player base in far excess of football.. Look at the dota numbers..
and ANYONE can play, at any age... not true with football.. and the thing is .. football isn't fun for everyone that plays... it just isn't... lots of sitting and standing around
Dota is fun for everyone.. and an engaging experience EVERYTIME

TP I love you but there are a lot more sports than just football, also there are a lot of states (countries) where sport is cheaper a computer. I wouldn't discount your point at face value as land will become in short supply in areas and this could have (probably already is) an impact on what people do for recreation in the future.
Don't get me wrong, I think its a good idea to open up free education to people other than athletes. But then again I also think that free education should go to higher than average students who could in normal circumstances not afford it regardless of their physical/neckbeard talents.
I don't know about your Dota comments but I cannot say your wrong as I have never played.... and really the only thing I know about Dota is from the following documentary...

Tp don't be silly. You are confusing your interests with what other people are interested in. Also I think you have something personal against football, I think this because you appear to be focusing in on just football (possibly particularly US version of football). DOTA is pure,
The kids playing school sports are pushed into it by their parents.. very few WANT to play them.. I've played many in school as well.. Track, wrestling, soccer, bb, hockey, the majority of my teammates only did it because their parents had them do it..
But ask any kid playing video games.. No parents necessary, the kid wants to play..
And not to mention, the organizational cost to play "real sports" is HUGE compared to Dota..
You need to get a group of kids together, you need a large playing area, you need equipment etc etc... beyond school backed systems.. it's seldom possible to play any major sports..
Esport... Anyone with a computer can play.. You can play it any time... there's always people.. all over the world.. a click away..

OMG TP you can still organise a game of soccer without the intent of milking someone's money.
Or if you are still in school ask a couple of friends during school, play until the late bus comes, go home! Or if you are in college, text a couple of people, walk a couple hundred feet, and *poof* soccer!OMG TP you can still organise a game of soccer without the intent of milking someone's money.
Dude.. ok.. Let's do it..
Soccer.. I gotta call all these kid's mothers.. maybe fathers.. maybe they're at work..
Now, I gotta drive to all their damn houses, or their parents gotta get all the kids to an agreed upon field..
Then we gotta setup all this crap on the field... Then we pick teams.. play... etc..
THen clean up... then go to stupid pizza... and then drive home..
HOW many freaking hours is this to play a decent game of soccer.... and how much of the parent's time did it cost... and how many of the kids actually had fun and got to kick the ball..
Now.. Dota..
Install... click click.. . Kid's happy.. you're good to go... want to play with joey and shannon... Click click.. there they are... you're chatting away... learning to be social...
Clean up... Alt-F4.. Boooom done..
Want pizza... click click... dominos ONLINE account... Done!!!!....
No getting in the car.. the mom doesn't have to touch up her makeup 3 times before getting out. she doesn't spend 20 minutes deciding which shoe to wear to attract the single dads...
Come on people... TIME TIME TIME TIME TIME... DOTA is TIME -efficient... 100x probably

Come on people... TIME TIME TIME TIME TIME... DOTA is TIME -efficient... 100x probably
A lot more than 2 people if you play soccer, and with soccer you don't get AIDs while playing with people.Or if you are still in school ask a couple of friends during school, play until the late bus comes, go home!

2 people kicking the ball back and forth to each other is most of ^^^^ those cases..
Dota 2 .... you just need to exist.. and there's 9 more people out there willing to play with you.

TP I am sorry l don't want to carry on arguing about something so trivial in a thread about the benefits of e-sport scholarships. I am not even sure what this is about any more :-\
Love you :-*
None, because of all the MOBAs communities. If you are new, you get flamed at and can't learn to play, and if you are good, no one is open to your input. And with any competitive games solo-queuing is the worst thing you can do.A lot more than 2 people if you play soccer, and with soccer you don't get AIDs while playing with people.Or if you are still in school ask a couple of friends during school, play until the late bus comes, go home! I agree, it is all little kids. I mostly play CSGO, but it is getting hard because as it becomes more popular, there are more cancerous people and people not taking competitive seriously.

Sigh... The majority of MOBA consists of little kids.. it's always going to be this way because they're the ones with the most free-time..
That doesn't mean you shouldn't play.. Tag your nearest friend.. convert them toward the cause.. If you can't make a friend, you can't blame the community.. the community is millions of people.. if you can't get someone to buddy with out of millions of people.. You must look inward...

I am friends with a lot, it's the queuing when you have less than 3 people, I have been playing since it came out. It's a shame watching how it started out good, went to great, then took a huge dump with the community because of skins.I agree, it is all little kids. You gotta network in the game.. send friend requests to people you see often that matches your playing time table, and who doesn't suck..
they make all of this really easy for you man.. it's difficult to just point and yell -those-meddling-kids-.. when the option to team up with grownups is there..

No, in CSGO, all of the trade bots and people trying to scam, and going into a casual game and getting bombarded with trade spam.I am friends with a lot, it's the queuing when you have less than 3 people, I have been playing since it came out. I never understood this scholarship system , if you're dumb as **** but can throw a ball , you can havea diploma ?
On the sport/E-sport part , it would be much better to make a difference between a physical sport ( football , basketball , ... ) and non physical sport ( chess , golf , e-sport ) . But USA is delivering athlete VISA to LoL players already , so I guess it's too late .
E-sport is surely growing , but it's not tommorow that we'll see it on TV . Or maybe for the next worlds championship of LoL .
please dont call it a sport. its a slap to the face to actual athletes. besides golfers. **** them.
I'm surprised that you limited your exceptions to golf and esports, I mean racing drivers just sit on there ass all day driving a car, not exactly hard work-amrite?Your alma mater has racecar driver scholarships?

The ignorance is strong with this one. Though I'm surprised that you limited your exceptions to golf and esports, I mean racing drivers just sit on there ass all day driving a car, not exactly hard work-amrite?
I would wager that racing isn't deemed a sport.
