You're free to bring your boards or caps or whatever if you want but it's mostly just about relaxing and getting to know one another. I know badwrench and I think nubs both expressed some interest so let's see who else we can get. :cool:
Once we get some interested parties, I'll update the OP with the relevant info regarding the meet. So far, everything is up in the air. We can have lunch, drinks, go mini-golfing, cruising, laser tag, skydiving, whatever. When there's some ideas, I'll drop a link to a google doc

And yeah, I've been skydiving before. I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie and maybe I have a death wish since I like anything that's dangerous. Tracking, biking, skydiving, bungee, free diving, white water, etc. It gets the blood going. :)) Speaking of tracking, we could also do a track day sometime. That'd be awesome. The S3 needs a lot of work before that, though.

Anaheim works. DTF has some decent places, too. Then there's uhhhhh Playground and a couple others right over in Santa Ana, as well. I'd be down with any of those areas.

Oh man, it's been a while since I've been to Riip. That's a good option. It's right by the pier, too. A couple of other places I like are Playground in Downtown Santa Ana, ARC in Costa Mesa, Urban Seoul in Irvine (that nubs mentioned), Cafe Tu Tu Tango in Orange, and The Speakeasy in Huntington Beach.
One of my favorite places is Father's Office up in Santa Monica. It's far, though. And you have to be 21 to get in. Otherwise, they have amazing burgers and always a nice selection of local stuff on tap. And Pliny the Elder. Tasty.
Wtf is all this talk about breweries. I thought it was a rule with demik that if you hang out with him, you get boba tea. Discuss.

Just spotted this thread. I won't know my school schedule for November until the beginning of that month(I'm in anesthesia school so i'm a slave to the hospitals I work at) but if I have the day off i'm totally down to meet up.

I guess it is all relative. I have a daily commute of 1 hour each way to work without traffic, so I am very biased. That, and I really enjoy driving.

Alright, I figure I should stop being lazy and post this. I was talking to demik a couple of weeks ago about meeting up. At the time, both of our schedules were kind of **** but they've cleared up a bit since. We wanted to extend an invite to anyone else in SoCal that wants to get together, grab a beer or two, and just shoot the ****. For the record, this isn't a keyboard meet. You're free to bring your boards or caps or whatever if you want but it's mostly just about relaxing and getting to know one another. We'll be heading to Riip tasting room in Huntington Beach. Dinner with Sent and Nubbinator was great - the pics do little justice to how good it was, especially those sliders. Riip was decent, but was heavily focused on IPA (not a bad thing), but to me, only a couple were really good. I did like the coffee stout even though it had a very thin mouth feel. One chance liking was the oatmeal stout. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was.
I really had a great time getting to know everyone. There is definitely a reason that Geekhack has the feel that it does of being such a close community and the guys I met on Sat. only reinforced that. Thank you for making the time to come hang out in person and have a beer and good conversation. Also, a thank you to heroinbob for the 3d printed lucky cat, it now has a place on my desk.
Oh, and Hoff, save the trip out for a little more structured of a day, this one was just a couple guys hanging out for a few hours. Hopefully we can set up another California meet (and this time I can attend). A 2 day meet in Sunny San Diego sounds like a good time to me. :thumb:

Totally agree. I have connections for an awesome mobile taco stand if we wanted to do a small bit of catering :thumb: I have had their stuff multiple times (my friends use them for nearly every larger party), and most recently at a friends wedding. Fresh guacamole, salsa, and either pollo/carne/al pastor on fresh pressed tortillas (they do them one at a time right in front of you). Simply awesome!
