Just I got an e-mail from Das Keyboard.
There are interesting news.
Das Keyboard Gaming line.

I wonder who manufactures their new "mustard tactile" switches and "olive linear" switches. Apparently they have 1.7mm travel distance (as opposed to 2mm?) pre-actuation. And about the same actuation force as browns, they're just quieter. Is it just a brown switch with o-ring built-in?

Das pulled a Corsair.
Didn't Corsair invest in some 6 figure gamer line campaign that backfired horribly and had to quickly change the logo?
Talk about money well wasted...
And this is coming from a Das Keyboard owner...

Jeez. Looking at that, I can tell I'm really not missing out with having just vintage boards :p . What a ****ing monstrosity xD .

made by gamurs for gamurs!!!!!!
tbh das keyboard has been looking less favourable from an enthusiasts view for a while. Clunky designs and ABS keycaps are a massive turn-off, especially at the price they retail at.

Ehh, the appearance really isn't a big deal-- sure, it doesn't have a "minimalist" look, but not everyone is into that, anyway. It's not really to my preference, but I wouldn't say it was any worse for that reason.
The price, though, is harder to overlook. The spec and feature set seem competent, but at $150 mere competence doesn't cut it. Not when someone could spend in the $100ish range and get an RK with capacitive switches and RGB lighting, or a Team Wolf full-size plus a whole set of Gaterons to hot-swap in (also with RGB), or for a little bit more a Bloody B740A with fricken' optical switches and a waterproofing layer. No amount of empty talk about "quality" could make up for that degree of difference in price and spec. For that matter, even if the quality was outstanding, it wouldn't even matter, since that'd just mean you'd be stuck with something second-rate for longer.
I'm sure they'll sell some, thanks to being an easily available Western brand with a semi-decent reputation, but it's not about to go on my wishlist.

I like full sized keyboards. I have plenty of them and this thing is ugly, in my opinion. Yes, aesthetics is an important factor, in my opinion. Not the only one, but an important one.

My eyes hurt now! What is that.. THING!?

With the LED's off it looks considerably better. With that being said, for only 20 bucks more why not just go for the 4 Professional?

more like why not go for a different company that offers PBT keycaps on their boards rather than the ****ty ABS on das keyboards

Greetech is the OEM.

I wonder if their different lines of switches do actually feel different. Heard a lot of complaints when Das switched to greetech on their low-end boards, yet everybody seemed to like the KBT switches on MK Disco, also manufactured by greetech.

Wtf guys.. that keyboard looks pretty good to me..
hahahaa. understated.. good geometry.. no clutter..
Now, what they aught to do to IMPROVE this keyboard.. is start by CUTTING IT IN HALF...
Then put a cable between the two halves..
Wait wait wait.. NM, everyone..
Buy ERGODOX (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/th_100_.gif)

I think it's good to have manufacturers experimenting with new switch designs, even if it's just a modified Greetech switch. I also think it's cool for them to experiment with the swapable aluminum tops.
At the end of the day, I think $150 is too much for a keyboard with Greetech switches though. I wish Das never moved away from Cherry MX, but I think it's a smart business move for them as the mainstream consumers don't care or know the difference with switch manufacturers.

How many companies sell keyboards with PBT keys ? Anyone other than Pok3r?
This so much.

leopold, varmillo, topre, deck, ducky used to sell stock boards with their thick pbt sets, point is there are many keyboards with the same features (sometimes more) that offer better design and high quality stock keycaps at the same or even cheaper price

I can't even call it "Das Disappointment" because they drained all my positive feelings towards the brand already anyway.

I'd call it 'bait-and-switch'. The originals were not perfect, but they were ok (except for that wtf glossy case, but that might be just me). And then they increasingly strip away quality and increase marketing and try to lift on their "brand identity".
Feels a bit like Apple lately.. but that is probably another discussion on its own :)
