These were very cheap back in the day but are now very expensive and difficult to find. Topre sucks tho, so whatever, but someone might be interested. :thumb:

Pink is not rare. As someone mentioned above, Hendy had a stock of 10 or more just a couple of months ago.

Now if it's orange or yellow blanks, that's a different story.

Except that pink is really sought after for pairing will with the white blanks. And for just being pink.

In particular I wanted it to match for my watermelon set, some blanks instead of the pink printed ones that I have.

And the ten sets that were sold, sold out in less than an hour with most of them either being kept in collections of being flipped.

yeah, since hendy prices his items in rupiah at reasonable prices for indonesians, it was a crazy deal for US buyers at the time of the sale because of how weak the idr was against the dollar (one of the worst positions it's been in decades). iirc they sold out in under 10 mins (TOPRE CORP, HELLO?!!!!).

if he posted the sets now, it'd have been pushing $100 per set (which we'd gladly still pay of course).

Just to let you guys know I'm going to bid on this before the end but I imagine that there are others with much deeper pockets than me.

It kind of sucks that everything is getting bought up to be put on ebay after. I almost have to buy artisans specifically so I can actually trade for things I want...

amazon JP still has HHKB blanks.  shipping + proxy is a little expensive, but it ends up being cheaper than getting them from EK if you order a couple of things (more blanks, more hhkbs, printed color realforce keysets, etc).

I wouldn't be too sure about this. Unlike Beanie Babies these sort of items are actually scarce and have become true collector's items.

I remember back when I was playing maplestory, I had rare items that were only available at launch but I had paid a lot of in game currency for them years later.

I kid you not, weeks after I had obtained them, Nexon released a special crate that contained, you guessed it, those same items that were considered collector's items.

All it takes to crash the prices for these is if more topre sets are produced.

However, like I mentioned with the sansui headphones on another thread, if there are no more stock being produced then the prices will likely never recover.

It definitely looks like they're trying to focus more on their business line but that doesn't mean they can't produce a set of keycaps and release it on amazon or something.

I've emailed SP, and Melissa has said that they are considering topre caps. But I don't think the hobby market for topre will be large enough for them to invest so much into new molds.

It's definitely not. Yeah, the first run or two might go well (assuming they don't price a lot of people out), but after the first big colorway sets run- how many repeat buyers will there be? There's a larger barrier to entry for Topre, and not a lot of variety in the typing experience between models, so the average user just doesn't have three or four Topre keyboards sitting around that they can place sets on and feel like they are being "used" like they do with MX. It'll mostly fall back to collectors and new buyers, which can't be more than 40-50 people per run (and that's including participation from all major communities).

The only mold these companies truly need to make is a Topre-stem spacebar mold that they can use to match up with their MX sets. It's a rough solution, because it still requires MX sliders, but it's the most viable. Problem with that is that once Topre rolls out MX-compatible keyboards for their Realforce line sometime within the next year or so, demand for that mold will drop to mostly just HHKB users. And this is the real reason why we're unlikely to see any new Topre-compatible keysets from the mother company- they're leaving us behind.

You guys want to see a price dive? Just wait for those Realforce (edit- they'll like be Type Heavens) keyboards to come out, then open up r/mechmarket a few months later. It should be fun.

I heard a rumor that the reason they don't produce them anymore is because they closed/moved out of a factory that was producing the sets. doesn't make much sense to leave the machinery there, but is there any truth to this?
