So, after getting lots of feedback here is my first update. I added a 6.5u spacebar to the base kit as to not alienate the corsair users (let me know if it should be in a different kit). I eliminated duplicate keys like the extra escape keys in the numpad kit and some keys in the homing kit. I gave an overhaul to the ergodox kit. Everyone's help with that is greatly appreciated, let me know if this kit is an improvement. I added more blanks to the kit but now i'm wondering if I should just have a blanks kit for those pink/blue keys (thoughts?). The bonus kit added a few new keys as well as absorbing keys from the eliminated gamer kit.The novelties kit added many more keys and I have many more ideas that I haven't added yet. I may be going a little crazy on this kit, so could I get some feedback on what you guys like/dislike so I can rein that kit in a bit. And I added my first render, thanks to my friend /u/B1G_B1RD :) THANKS EVERYONE! p.s. I also added a logo thing, seems like people do that....

Based on various comments most of the kits received an update. The Ergodox Kit has become the most challenging and I hope to hear more input on this latest update. The international kit was reduced to match the Hana International Kit, and redundant keys have been eliminated from the ISO Kit. A 2.25u shift key was added to Non Standard Kit to accommodate leopold and clueboard users, let me know if there are additional keys needed. New kits were added to the Planck Kit including 2u Enter and Shift keys. The Novelties Kit lost the green and orange keys and gained new novelties, please let me know which are your favorite and if there is a theme you think I should be following. Those were the more notable updates. As far as NEW KITS, I added a Windows Kit, a Blank Kit, an Alt Spacebars Kit and a Macro/VE.A Kit. Some one had asked to include two unusually sized spacebars for the VE.A keyboard and I discovered that that board actually has 10 macro keys. I decided to create a whole new kit thinking that macros might be interesting for more than just VE.A users. Let me know if I'm wrong and I can add the spacebars to the Blank Kit or something. I've also rearranged a few kits into new groupings. The Bonus Kit was becoming rather large to I split it up into a smaller Bonus Kit and an Accent Kit. The Accent kit contains all of the pink/blue keys that were included in the previous Bonus Kit. The Spacebar Kit was reduced to just 3u, 6.5u, and 7u spacebars and I'm envisioning them being sold individually during the GB. Lots of kits have been switched up in this update. The main update though is the new Novelties Kit that has been revised according to the poll I posted and advice from this thread. I've reduced the number of novelties in the kit, added 1.25u novelty keys, and split them into 3 kits. There will be a black, pink, and blue kit. I did this because selling them all together would most definitely make the kit EXTREMELY expensive, and because I've also decided to split up the Accent Kit so you can choose the color theme of your board without having to buy extra keys. It was recommended to me that I split up the ISO and UK kits and I created an Alt ISO kit for now because I don't know if selling 3 of the return keys together will be too expensive, but I hate to leave out a major part of the accent kit for ISO users. Other than that it was just moving a few keys around here and there, changing the symbols on the Numpad Kit, nothing too crazy. I did add a fullsize layout to the mix just because I feel like they get a bit neglected and I think the layout with accents looks dope ;) UNTIL NEXT TIME!

So now that we've made it through the Massdrop polling I'm focusing more on the efficiency of the kits. Looking at the Amazing Chocolatier drop, I realized it might be a good idea to split the alphas and mods in the base kit to make it cheaper for people with non standard layouts. The new kits are my first shot at splitting up the kits and some keys had to be added to some kits. Please help me by double checking my work! The novelty kits were expanded by a few more keys. I'm planning them being sold in 3 separate kits. I'll make sure to keep everyone updated if I hear any news. Until next time :-*

This update may seem a little scary to some because of the way the kits have been chopped up, but I promise it's going to benefit everyone. After my last update to make the kits more efficient, I was pointed towards the DSA Overcast group buy. I don't know how I didn't use this as inspiration before, but it helped me change the way I viewed the kits. It may seem like you're buying extra because there are so many kits, but the new kits are very good at keeping people from buying keys they probably don't need. I'm typing on a 75% board right now and I have a bunch of extra keys sitting in bags next to me because I needed to buy a 25 key kit just to get 4 keys out of it to complete my board. I'm not claiming to have reduced the amount of extra keys to 0, but what extra keys you do have won't be excessive. Take a look at the DSA Overcast group buy if you want to see how the prices break down for similar kits if you want to get an idea of how much mine will cost. An important kit split to note is the Non Standard Kit has been removed, and broken up into the Whitefox, 65%, 75% Kit and Tsangan Kit. Please help me review them and let me know if there need to be any changes. When you're reviewing those kits you may notice the Whitefox novelty key. With the popularity of this board and knowing several people who bought one in the last drop, I asked Matt3o and got his blessing to use the Whitefox logo. YAY! I'm going to wait to hear if anything needs to be changed, then I'll be sending these kits off to SP to get some more sold kit pricing information. Have a wonderful Sunday! :)

04.25.17 UPDATE SUMMARY
This is a new render from /u/thesiscamper for the Massdrop email announcement that will be going out soon! After seeing seeing this new render, it really helped me better visualize how this set with look on a keeb, so there has been a slight COLOR CHANGE. Don't worry, I think this is for the best. The background on the mods will be changing from NN to GX. NN is a pure black color and I think it creates too much of a contrast between the mods and alphas. In sticking more closely with its Dolch roots, the mods will become GX (the original DSA Dolch mod color). For real life reference images, check out DSA Dolch to get a sense of the mods. For the alphas, take a look at SA Calm Depths.

Since you're offering a non-standard pack you should definitely offer 6.5u space bars. These keys would look great on a Corsair RGB and it would be a mistake not to include that demographic.

SA makes sense to me, those Miami colors are a product of the late 70's and 80's.

Yeah, with SP's backlog right now I wouldn't be surprised if didn't arrive until early 2017, and that is if the groupbuy started rolling right now.

They don't have to. You would just make it so someone can buy a planck set that would have a planck's alphas and mods in it. You can split the mods and alphas of the main set but that's up to you and isn't necessary.Any chance of providing a set that will fill only a Planck like how Nantucket did?
Yeah definitely! I've been looking at the REBEL - SA set and was guess people would want me to do something like that. In my next update i'll include a planck set and a better looking ergodox set. The standard alphas would also become a separate set then right?

Take a look at the Modern Selectric specialty keys set with its simple icons. Another good example is the Hana DSA set. I ended up buying the prefectures set not to fill up my number row, but to use on the bottom row of 1u keys. The Carbon set also had child deals with symbols. I really feel this is the way to go for non-blanks on the Ergodox.

One thing that I noticed about your layout is that it has duplicate keys between the base kit and the 'dox kit. In fact, all of the 1u keys are duplicates from the base kit, and the tab key as well. It could use a 1.5u Backspace key, two 1u control keys and Win key, and darker 1u left and right brackets. Perhaps throw an extra few 1.5u blanks for any others that aren't covered in this. To eliminate all of the legends on the Ergodox kit would be a pity, as it would eliminate a lot of the character of the set, as we would end up with a light grey set with blue letters with a set of blank mods

DZ Dox kit was $49.49 by the time orders closed. That's pretty cheap as Dox kits go, particularly ones with legends. But I'm sure DSA would be even cheaper as you surmised.

I feel this would look strange in SA, and the huge wait times will maybe see the SA bubble burst eventually.
Not tried DSA, but I've liked flat profile SA, so I'd support DSA. GMK is also fine, if expensive, DCS for the budget option for sure.
The only thing I never like is these huge international kits, always limits me to sticking to ANSI only. I like the option of picking up UK ISO kits for better future proofing.

The layer keys can be blank or just "Fn". You'll want a couple of blanks of each size anyway.
StarPupil mentioned adding a 2u Shift to the kit and I kind of agree. Something to keep in mind...
If you have novelties they would probably stick to the 1u size for a Dox, but that's not written in stone. Carbon had a few novelty 2u caps in its Dox kit.

I'd say that the Layer keys should probably be 'FN' keys, but the orientation of them could be a problem, as some (me) use one of the side 1.5u keys as layer changers, but I'd say that we are probably an outlier here, so just having the vertical ones as 'FN+' and 'FN-' or just plain 'FN' might be best. But the more important thing to remember is that the MD ergodox design is at best a suggestion, and I'm not really sure anyone actually uses that layout. I'd say you should take an ergodox kit for a set that is similar to yours (profileless, TKL base kit) that you know had good reception (the DZ kit, in this case) make some changes, like the ones I mentioned before (most of these are already done with DZ), maybe throw in a few blanks to cover any more esoteric layouts. Or do what Carbon and DZ did and put in a few novelties.
But there are a few more things I noticed: in The Gamer Kit, you get two 'Esc' keys that are already included in the base kit (blue on pink and pink on blue). The Bonus kit has the exact same problem. And in the Homing kit, you already include non-scooped 'f' and 'j' keys in the base kit, so you may want to take them out of the homing kit. Same with the '5' key, both versions of which are included in the Numpad kit (I assume. This is probably another problem with the program you used not exporting scoops correctly).

I think Signature Plastics (2016) will only run group buys for Massdrop. GMK seems to be edging towards that resolution as well afaik.

That actually brings up something I forgot about. The Ergodox could use one or two 1u 'Ctrl' keys and one or two 1u 'Alt' keys, as the base kit doesn't have either. And I'd agree that at the moment is enough for 1u random keys, so the blank kit may not be necessary. But then again again, the novelty keys don't have any other size options, so there may need to be a blank kit. Either way, there are some potentially hard decisions to be made.

Will do! I love the set so far, and want to help you make as much of it as great as possible. And I agree that the non-normal keyboards shouldn't just be a bunch of blanks, because that would make them lose a lot of what makes this set awesome. But there should probably be some blanks, as there are always some layouts that get left behind.

All WKL kits (Which are pretty much the only people who would use one) will need the Non-standard kit for the 1.5u Control and Alt keys. So wouldn't it go in the Non-standard kit? The only DSA set that includes the 7u spacebar in the base kit is DSA Dolch, and they include all of the WKL bottom row in there as well. I'd advise against that, as it would drive the cost up.
It's actually a 6.5u space bar and in the new layouts I have for the next update it will just be available for purchase separately like most other drops

I do not know which ones were dropped from the original supported ones, I just noticed it when the place I live now was removed from the list, I emailed them and they confirmed that due to previous issues they decided to stop shipping entirely.

even though i'm from Germany, i only use ANSI mks with Eurkey (layout).
Massdrop/SP international MOQ should be 50 sets like seen before there.
Lets say 35 UK kits and 29 INTERNATIONAL kits wouldn't do any good unless MD covers the missing kits, if only a few kits are missing.
I would combine uk and international into one kit only. Of course this is up to you!
Even though i hardly post here, only lurking around every other day, i do know MD pretty well. Not enough time for to many communities.
But looking at the beauty of this set, i've no doubt at all you should reach MOQ of 50 international sets.

So this is just a thought, but perhaps you could include a few 1u blanks in the Plank/preonic kit. I've seen a lot of new planks and preonics over on reddit that are in the grid style rather than the MIT (and mine is as well), so it would probably be appreciated.
There's an entire mockup of a 'BLANK KIT' in the first post. Shouldn't that cover everything you need?
It would. But generally speaking, Blank kits usually have trouble hitting MODQ, so having slightly fuller support for a popular board configuration in the kit for that board (i.e. the addition of two keys) isn't too much to ask in my eyes.
EDIT: Also, I have literally seen more Grid styles boards in the new wave of pictures than MIT. So it's not like it's a super small portion of Planck and Preonic owners who have that kind of layout.

As for the ISO issues, I appreciate how it can seem unfair to split the UK keys out of the international kit, but both options tend to struggle for numbers unless it's a crazy popular set.
I'm quite happy to pay $20 or so for a ISO-UK, but I can never justify the high price of a full international kit for so few keys. Extras can be sold on I suppose, but I can't be the only one that just walks away from any ISO option if the price is too high.
Would be interesting to know if the ISO users are there, but just scared away from committing due to the cost.
This is why I've always liked the 'all together' GMK buys where everyone pays that tiny amount more to provide those options like 1800, ISO etc.
I don't begrudge an extra $5 on a $120 set to get people the international options they need.
200 people paying $2.50 just seems way fairer than 10 people needing to pay $50 for example.

I notice you have 'enter' for ANSI and 'return' on ISO, maybe been covered already but is this intentional? I wish more sets used return.

Hey, yea the DSA Overcast definitely has the right idea including some bottom row non-standard sized keys for Novatouches, CM keyboards in general etc. I have a Novatouch too but I've been using the WhiteFox far more ever since I got it and his standard mods don't seem to include the 1.75u shift - he included those into the Tsangan kit only from what I can see.
That's the only thing that really jumps out at me, including that one key in the standard mods. Seeing as the WF just sold like 2k units a week or two ago when it dropped again (plus the 1.5k~ from the 1st drop) and every layout except the 1st round Jack of All Trades use it, I feel it'd be a smart move to accommodate all those people even if you have to skip some of the more mainstream stuff like Razer/CM modifiers for it I think the Fox is much more popular in the community right now than those are.
Just feels like a waste to buy like 30-40 extra keys for a single one and even though I've personally done that in the past, I'd imagine a lot of people skip certain sets for that same reason which is understandable.

I don't feel qualified to evaluate other kits but the WhiteFox and Tsangan look lovely! The fox key is such a nice detail - the R1 mods on the WF kit are supposedly 1.25 right? Hard to tell from the picture as it's a different resolution than the others and they might be placeholders rather than an accurate representation right now either way.
All of the R1 keys in the Whitefox-65%-75% kit are 1u. The idea is that you'd buy the Base Kit, the 60% Mods kit, the Whitefox-65%-75% Kit, and the TKL Mods kit (for the side bar and arrrow keys). So in the case of the Whitefox board you're saving by not buying the Tsangan keys that were bundled in the Non Standard Kit. You get the 1.25u keys from the 60% Mod Kit and the 1u keys from the Whitefox-65%-75% Kit.

From other designers, MD doesn't exercise control over the sets, but wants the designers intent to be unvarnished by their own. They just negotiate the terms with the manufacturer based on what the designer gives them.

Just wondering, is it possible to add 2 x 1u Accent Colored Esc Keys to the 40% Ortho kit? It would balance out the coloured Enter key nicely as seen in the original Zambumon renders.
Cause right now the only way to have a decent looking planck layout is to either not use the colored enter key at all, or buy an entire accent kit just for a single colored escape key, which doesn't really make much sense. :/

oh..really hope it's in the base kit, then I can just replace 1.75 ctrl with 1.75 func, and avoid buying an exta Tsangan kit. 60% mod+Whitefox kit+novelty can fit all perfectly well.

For a WKL layout (with the 1u winkey) you need the same as above.
There are so many duplicate keys that just haven't been considered. For HHKB you end up with 3/4 duplicates.
"WhiteFox, 65%, 75% Modifiers Kit" is generally a super weird kit. It's got 1800 keys, some novelties, a Clueboard shift, and a couple HHKB keys.
"Tsangan Colemak Kit" is also flawed. It has 1 key regarding Colemak, but you need to combine it with "WhiteFox, 65%, 75% Modifiers Kit" to actually make it useful on 90%+ boards. It also has elements of 40%, when there is a Ortholinear kit below?
Kits are supposed to make it so you don't have to buy unnecessary kits, but you end up buying lots as the compatibility is so spread out. I'm guessing its too far in to change anything, so good luck, but it's really a shame that it wasn't done properly.

To be fair, I doubt this kit was designed with the HHKB in mind, seeing as how you have to mod it to take MX keycaps.
There are MX HHKBs - Viper, etc. Either way, I personally have not ran into any issues with the kits, probably because I bought everything other than ergodox and tsangan but still I think for most boards it seems to be mostly on point.

IMO this is essential for layouts like a 75%, or the 96 key layout where the f-row lines up next to the number keys.
Having the two tone looks weird in those types of layouts...
