I think the way it's designed, it's suppose to have some rigidity for the first layer to keep the wire bundle together more tightly. ptfe or even the tpu of the outer layer may be too soft and the inner conductor strands need a bit more support.

PTFE also has poor cold temperature performance.. I need a wider hot and cold range which works with the TPU.

But I understand horses for courses and match the application and all that.

Ah, that's the part I was missing. It's 4mm nominal. In that case, carry on...

That material at that diameter/thickness can do --those-- things. but it's not certain it will do that when scaled down.
