Drugs haven't been cool since I was 15, and yet people in their mid to late 20s still think it's cool to talk about doing drugs.
I swear the average IQ of geekhack members has dropped 20 points in the past year.

Drugs are indeed not cool..
The majority of the people who get hooked lose an average of 10-25 years of productivity in their life..
It's hard to explain to a young person why that is so critical.. sigh...........
The largest danger to the stuff seems so benign... There's the drama side to drugs, the crazy diseases, the lose of money, the depression, the downward spiral... But the root cause of ALL of those events is merely the Induction of --Apathy--.. And this effect is very subtle and functions in the background..
Every pot head, alcoholic, hard drug user, I've ever known, behaves extremely similarly, they've completely lost their ability to ACT in general urgency..
It's one thing to be befallen with stress disorder, heck, sure, modern life can do that... But cognitive stress should not be removed so thoroughly, as is the case with all of these pleasure deriving substances..
Those affected, may overall seem normal on the outside, but they are actually deeply hampered because their go to way of dealing with stress works so well. These guyzus are at less than half capacity to get the most simple things done..
Stress is a driver. It needs to be there to push you in certain directions.. If you remove it with drugs, you become petrified in all endeavors.

Most generally, it should be passing of the torch moment.. the OGs like imav have all gone and got OLD... the majority of the Middle G like Tp4 have probably all found females.. Like demik... and thus also abandoned GH..
So, now we have the Newest generation, they're not stupid certainly.. but there 's a hard limit to the command of information relative to age.

I don't know about any of you, but when I'm in the design stage of a feature, and I'm trying to think of all the issues (software dev), there is nothing like weed to really open your mind and think of all of the possibilities. But I also don't smoke when I need to get **** done. I guess it all comes from moderation and self control (what little I have), but I definitely don't think we're losing that much productivity. How productive do we need to be? What exactly do you mean by "being productive", anyway? Do you mean going out to experience stuff? Or doing work? Or having hobbies (that don't only include smoking weed)? What productivity are we losing? Like, farming our land?
So weird that about 50% of the people in my office smoke weed on a daily biases and somehow manage to get to work on time every day, raise families, and keep one of the largest multi-billion dollar tech companies afloat, all the while with weed in their systems... imagine that. And they rarely ever talk about it too....
Hell, when I was interning at a developer there was one programmer that would do heroine in her car and the boss was totally fine with it. Probably had something to do with her doing the work of 4 individuals workloads before 2 pm. Granted she would then crash and sleep at her desk until 4, but she literally kept that project afloat with her skills. Best programmer I ever saw, otherworldly almost.

Had a similar guy. He was unbelievable in his coding speed and architecture skills. But when it came time to land the plane, he'd bail. Made a lot of money keeping in contact with him, and approaching his old contacts at the point that he bailed and handling the back end of the project. He'd get off work, get a 'power nap', then hit every bar until they all closed, then go to the after hours bars, then head home, freshen up, and come in to work at about 11AM. Never did figure out how he kept that candle burning at both ends all the time.

About the sense of urgency, I think that as long as it's in moderation the person will be fine. And as long as people don't look to weed for help with stress too, I think once people start doing that they're screwed because then they'll get into the mindset of "man I really need a j right about now"
That being said, I only do it when I don't have class the next day, don't have to work the next day, and I'm all caught up with classwork including my two online classes.

Do what you have to do.. Just remain mindful that you're taking upon more difficult odds when you do this..
Today, we have very good science and brain scans which thoroughly debunk the hippie culture..
Difficult odds in what way?
Difficult odds in what way?
Recreational substance users as a group are among the least successful people..
So, by choosing recreational substances... you're betting that all of the other things in your life is enough such that the deleterious effects of substance use will not hinder your goals..
In that way, from the perspective of the impartial observer, a user is stacking odds against himself.

To be fair I think that depends more on the users mindset. A lot of people convince themselves that weed helps them in daily life when in reality it really doesn't.
People need a reality check when using and it can and will hinder goals if they let it.

That's certainly the clear thinking way..
Do what you want to do.. as long as you're aware of the reality of the situation, at the VERY least, you'll have no regrets. hahahahaha

I grew up with an alcoholic that could not handle his liquor but I was also friends with someone that rarely drank that can take swigs from 151 and be totally fine to go about his day. I'm not saying these are good things. Both things I mentioned are terrible. Don't become an alcoholic. Some people might drive while stoned but you probably won't catch them speeding around and running people over. If anything legalization could help stop deforestation because hey, the laws surrounded hemp growth will become relaxed. Bio-plastic and hemp paper (the original paper mind you) could definitely make a difference. But that's not my point. My point is that legalization can lead to good things. The most complaints I hear are about the smell. Smells good to me. Not many people will have to worry as to where it's laced. So that's good I guess.
tp just hates the smell

I've always thought the smell is a combination of cat-pee and celery..
Cats are cute, and celery is healthy.. so Pot must be good ?
