Stuck with converting AEK II to USB.
« on: Sat, 21 September 2019, 06:22:56 »
Hello guys,

I've been trying to convert this Japanese AEK II to USB using pro micros for a few weeks now and I'm starting to think that the whole keyboard might just be dead.
I've got images showing what I have at current time -

With this setup, the AEK flashes its LEDs and doesn't respond afterwards. I have a feeling the black cable (labeled as PSW or Power On) might have a place on the pro micro, but I honestly have no idea where to put it. I think I have the correct labelling for the cables anyway - tested it with a multimeter and all.

Any help would be appreciated - I'd love to get this board back to it's original glory.

Thanks!

I think you need to take the black wire to the #3 through hole & do not use the red wire. Basically reverse what you got going on with those 2 wires right now. I've never USB converted an AEK myself, but I do have a ADP cable that someone converted with a Pro Micro that came with an AEK I bought. That is the only difference in the way mine is wired vs yours at least.

You'll need all four wires connected. The best place for instructions or to ask questions would be in this thread.

No problem! How did it go, did it get it working over USB doing that? Like I said before USB converting vintage boards is pretty far out of my wheel house. Although considering the ADP to Pro micro cable I got is set up almost the same way with the just the black & red wires switched I figured it was worth a shot. Tactile's comment does make a good bit of sense, but if it had to have all 4 wires connected I'd imagine my ADP to Pro Micro cable wouldn't work. Since it just has 3 wires connected & the red wire sniped down by the sheathing.
