Hi from France
« on: Mon, 25 May 2020, 06:27:35 »
Hi keyboard world!

I'm developper and I was looking to replace my current Logitech K760 used to work on my MacBook Pro. Yeah I know... membrane ^^° but it was quite good for working and it never run out of battery!
I already got a Corsair K65 Cherry MX Red for my gaming PC. Not bad for playing but I was really disappointed by the noise and the feeling, so it was a big "meh" for work with it.
First I was looking to get the Kemove 61 SnowFox but I'm French and on Mac so the layout was a stop to me.
Last solution, build one myself! And it's exactly why I'm here ;D

After a week to read tons of stuff, search and look many vids, I've finally purchase a KBD75v2 with Gateron ink black switches.

I'm missing a case for now so if anyone has any suggestions, don't hesitate!

Oh and my English is really not perfect so ... sorry! :D

Hi Ferannor. Welcome to Geekhack. Those solar keyboards are an awesome idea, and Logitech is a great company, especially for wireless peripherals. Even their conventional wireless peripherals have phenomenal battery life.

Well, the K65 is a great choice if you ask me. That's one of my favorite keyboards. What was it that you didn't like about the noise and feel of MX reds? They're definitely not as smooth as say, Gaterons. It appears that that SnowFox is fully programmable, so you could swap the option/alt and command/windows keys through software I imagine. No idea if an AZERTY cap set is feasible though.

People seem to really love KBD products, so I imagine that's a great choice. I know I couldn't do without dedicated arrow keys myself, and am actually using a 75% board at this very moment. I have heard great things about Gateron ink blacks. I'm sure you'll love them.

It sounds like a lot of XD84 cases are compatible with that PCB, just going by Google searches. Unfortunately, 75% kits are not as common as 60%, and maybe even 40% kits, so options are not always the greatest. It might be helpful to post about it in the Making Stuff Together! section of this forum asking about it. It will get more exposure there, and probably fits better there as well.

I could tell that you weren't a native English speaker, but you're certainly good enough with it to understand. Us native speakers are lucky that it has basically become the international language to begin with, we can't expect people from countries that don't speak it natively to have some perfect mastery of it.

Thanks! Yeah I'm agree about Logitech and this keyboard is great. The size is good, switch are at least better than Apple current keyboards. I'll keep it in all case.

About the K65, my cons are more about the sounds and the final quality of the product. Stab are pretty shaky. I reduce it with some aid band on the spacebar but on the other it's pretty hard to have a good result. Return key is the worst. The compatibility on Mac is also terrible, iCUE crash every 1h (but still in beta). I've also edit my KBD order to take a 65% because of the case choice.
The Snowfox is a good choice, nothing to say about it except it's impossible to switch it to ISO ( and I really want to build my own so... ^^°)

Thanks a lot for your welcome ;)

Ah, I'm a clicky guy. I don't care so much about stabilizers. I also hadn't even heard of iCUE, since I only have two RGB K70s, and I just set them to red like the rest. Do you use that just for RGB control, or mapping, or something?

You're welcome. Good luck on the build.

Yes I use it juste for the RGB effect and for the driver. For a strange reason, the keyboard is not working on Mac 10.15 without it (but it was on 10.14.... ). Definitely a strange issue on that point.
Thanks again!

Did you try any of the compatibility slider settings? There's a 4 position slider on the front of those boards. It should work in the BIOS setting, if nothing else. Strange that Apple would be dropping relatively standard USB keyboard drivers in an update. Driver support has always been one of my biggest beefs with them though. They barely ever support a decent amount of graphics cards, in particular.
