« on: Fri, 04 February 2011, 05:36:35 »
Hey,
I bought my ducky dk-1008 one month ago and have liked in all aspects, but i have started to miss the >-key i had when i used a keyboard with a finnish layout. Is there anything to be done? Thanks.
Input devices: Keyboards: Ducky DK-1008 (blue switches), Cherry G81-7000 (Cherry MY-switches)
Mice: Logitech G5

Looks like you should have gotten a board in some ISO layout instead. You may want to check whether The Keyboard Co. still has some Filcos in Swedish/Finnish layout in stock.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

My best advise is to remap the <>| key to some other key that you don't use that often. For example Caps lock - There's a key that's basically useless IMO and would be close to where the original <>| key is in Fi layout normally.

Jimmeh, you should probably activate both Finnish and US international keyboard layouts on your OS. Then whenever you need the characters on the 88th key, you just switch to the US layout, where those characters are more easily accessible anyway.

I don't remember how this works on linux, but on Windows switching between installed layouts is as easy as pressing Alt+Left Shift. On both systems the keyboard shortcut is customizable, IIRC.

Imho I think that it is pretty overkill to have to use a key combo to access the < and > keys. When programming especially it becomes very counter-productive.

I suggest you wait till the end of this month to get a Filco from the keyboard company! Or maybe wait for  (when and if) Ducky to produce international keyboards. =/

Or you could use MSKLC or AutoHotkey or something similar and map '<' to Alt Gr + ',' , '>' to Alt Gr + '.' and '|'to Alt Gr + '-' . That's what I'll do when I get my Filco some time early next week :).

I was going to wait for the Swedish layout (keyboardco says end of February for the Tenkeyless), but the more I thought about it, the more I started to dislike the ISO enter key. ANSI really does make more sense and you only lose one button, which you can remap to anywhere you like anyway.
