Wasn't happy with Filco Cherry Brown - too light

I need a keyboard with a lot more firmness than the Filco Majestouch 2 Cherry brown.  The keys on it just felt too light and kind of flimsy to me.  The flimsiness was probably due to the lightness.

Would I just be better off getting an IBM Model-M and dealing with the noise?  Or would a Cherry Black keyboard be a better option?  If so, which Cherry Black keyboard is the best quality?

Amazon has some Filco 10-keyless black switches (linear) from TheKeyboardCo for $139.00.  I'm saving up for one, but hoping a Ninja version comes out soon.

The SS 6GV2 is pretty good, but I hate it for typing.  The short right-Shift is a pain in the ass.  The big-ass Enter key is an eye-sore.

i felt that way too..browns were my first board coming off the rubberdome...

i was mashing my keys on my rubberdome and trying to do that on my browns didnt feel too well.

went to a topre and felt it was jus perfect.

one thing i wouod suggest though is to keep using your keyboard for several days ..your fingers have to get used to a new style of lighter typing.

if you can get used to not mashing your keyboard you might love it

that being said...my typing style is completely different from when i used the rubber dome. i now LOVE my browns as much as my topre

i would suggest the reds..alot of people call them the lightest switch...but i tend to disagreee as its like the lighter version of the blacks as it has a slight resistance pushin the key back upwards when u press doen..making the key feel heavier. blacks might be too heavy

In terms of firmness Black would probably be your best bet, especially if you don't want a lot of noise. However, I must caution you - a lot of people do not like typing on the blacks, BECAUSE of the firmness. This is just what I have heard and when it comes down to it, mechanical keyboards really are just all preference - so to each their own.

And as someone has already mentioned, you really should give the keyboard a try for about a week to let your fingers get adjusted. I really did not like the MX Reds at first - felt really weird, now it's my favorite keyboard.

For quality on the MX blacks I would get either a Steelseries 6GV2 or if you want a tenkeyless board get the Filco Majestouch.

BUT if you really don't care about noise - honestly I would either a Das with MX Blues or a model M. I haven't tried the Model M, but I can vouch for the Das. The only reason I returned my was because of the noise and the fact that it just did not feel right for gaming - mainly double tapping.

If you like tactile feedback in your switch, but without noise, then your choice is clear.

You will feel ''weird'' or distracted when double tapping same key at high speed. Though, many users/gamers say they dont feel a problem with it.

I am a Filco brown user and I also felt brown so light at first. But after two weeks you will get used to it, your fingers will barely touch the keys and your hands are dancing on the keyboard literally.

With proper all finger touch typing, of course.

Throw in another vote for giving the browns another chance. I didn't like 'em at first either, and still the keys under my right hand feel stiffer than the keys under my left, but all in all, Browns are rapidly becoming the best typing experience I've ever had.

I felt the same. Neither clears nor browns brought amazement to me. I ended up liking clicky alps switches the best. Unfortunately my board with alps does not work. I liked buckling springs too.

I still use browns every day though since the G80 has all of the awesome programmable keys.
