Is it possible to swap or replace keyboard controllers?

If both controllers have the same number of inputs i.e. bottom sheet 16 top 8

Would I have to trace every key on each board for example keyboard 1 when A is pressed its on 10 bottom plastic sheet, 2 top sheet

Keyboard 2 A= 16 bottom sheet /8 top sheet

So solder a wire from keyboard plastic sheets (membrane) to the new controller on the right pins

well yes (whats that burning smell!!!) i did mean solder to it via the socket

you can swap controllers if:

• the matrix is the same
• you swap the membrane also
• the controller is programmable

i do remember a mod someone did where they used a wireless keyboard controller - the matrix was almost the same, new column 6 was = to old column 2, new row 5 = old row 4, etc . they made an adapter to change the column/row order. one or two keys had to be remapped in software.

if its of interest to anyone the fujitsu fkb4700 keyboard has the same layout/spacings as a ibm 102 so a membrane swap wound work
