FIXED: Two switches not working on Filco Majestouch (MX Blues)
« on: Wed, 15 February 2012, 16:14:16 »
I'm Hoping someone has a few more ideas on what to try.

Right, the '*' and '-' symbols on the numpad are not functioning. The switches themselves work (tested with a multimeter) and I've tested various solder points along the tracers to ensure signal is getting through. Initially, the tracer had been lifted due to overheating on a previous attempt at a fix so I've replaced these section with wire; still not working despite a signal going through.

So, what's left? Anyone got any ideas?

These are the only two keys with problems, every other key is fine and tests OK with AquaKey.

I'll follow the tracer back to the controller tonight then and try shorting it. I'll also blast some air and switch-cleaner in, worth a shot.
Is there any possibility that it's the controller that's faulty?

Haven't had a chance to find out whether it does or doesn't work yet, either ;)

Still at work right now, I'll let you know how it goes once I've tried. Appreciate the suggestions though.

Right, I've got some life out of the minus key. Spamming it furiously gets a result 1 in 100. So, I'm going to strip the switches out and pull them apart. At worst, I'll have to buy two new switches and fit those instead.

Update: Fixed!

Was a combination of several things; lifted/broken tracers and the contacts inside one of the switches not making contact.

The two blades inside the housing were not making contact so I bent the contact out 90degrees and then bent it back. It presses against the plate fine now, just feels a little soft when used and doesn't make the 'click' sound any more. I'll replace the switch at some point but I'm not hugely fussed.

On top of that, both the '*' and '-' switches needed rewiring.
