I need a new mouse.
« on: Wed, 20 February 2013, 23:44:19 »
Criteria:
>no LEDs (always off is fine if they're unnoticeable)
>flawless sensor
>preferable some thumb buttons
>minimalist aesthetic preferred (no pointy bits or logos)
>wireless is a huge plus

My Deathadder was the most comfortable mouse I've ever used, but I'm taking my new setup in a different direction.

What should I look for?

Logitech G700 is one of the best you will find, though you may dislike the top buttons.

The logo can be removed with sugar, water and some rubbing.

I like my g600, but it has all the thumb buttons.

I think you can turn off the LEDs, but even with them on, it's not horrible.

I think they are still selling the good ol' G400 at Best Buy for 40 dollars. Can't beat it.

So far the G400 is the only one mentioned in this thread with a flawless sensor. As far as I know there are no decent mice that are both wireless and have a flawless sensor, most wireless have laser sensors.*
I don't think you'll be able to find a mouse that fits all your requirements, although for minimalistic looks Razer is usually a decent bet as most of their mice look fairly sleek when you turn off the LEDs, but if you want flawless sensor and something that isn't the DA, then the Abyssus is probably your best option, but that's a radically different shape.
You could have a look at Zowie mice, a lot of, if not all(I'm not quite sure), Zowie mice have flawless sensors and a fairly minimalistic aesthetic apart from the Zowie logo, and from what I've seen most have thumb buttons.
Getting a Zowie and then painting the shell if you really don't want the logo isn't a bad idea.
I suppose you could also have a look at the Naos 3200, with the LEDs off it looks nice, it has thumb buttons and a near-flawless optical sensor; it's the same used in the MX518 and first batches of G400 mice, it has slight prediction.

Edit:
* I should probably point out that I am not considering the hordes of nameless OEM mice and other generic mice you may find targeted towards "normal" people who aren't interested in gaming mice, you might find some cheap wireless laptop mouse with a decent optical sensor.

best mouse on the market, imo.  g400 is all about quality over features.

as a general rule, there are no good wireless mice.

+1 for G400
I use an old MX518 at home (predecessor to G400). G400 at work, and another new G400 as backup in case one kicks the bucket.

It's just the perfect mouse for me. Very comfortable rubber grip, responsive sensor and the side buttons are optimal size. I had a deathadder before but its side buttons were too big for me.

Logitech g400 or microsoft intellimouse for perfect sensor. Otherwise I recommend feenix nascita but it will only work flawlessly on hard mousepads because of laser sensor.
