Filco Majesco 2 died suddenly
« on: Tue, 14 August 2012, 14:14:51 »
In the middle of use, my Filco ceased working altogether. 3 different computers are not recognizing it, and the lights on it are inoperable. Switching USB ports and trying a PS/2 adapter does nothing.

The seller says I can return it for a full refund, but it only cost me $70, so I would like to try and repair it if possible. Is this a simple USB cord malfunction, or could it be a more serious problem. What do you guys recommend I do?

So can I use any USB cord as a replacement, or do I need a certain type? Are there any guides for this that you guys can direct me to?

Any USB cable should work, but you'll need a compatible connector to connect it to the filco PCB. I don't have a filco (and I'm away from my keyboards this week, so I can't look it up on my cmstorm) but I suspect you can just use a 0.1in connector. There was a post on GH that had the model number of one, so you could look it up on mouser, but I can't remember where.

You could, of course, solder directly to the pins on the PCB, but It's not as good a solution, and may have mechanical reliability issues down the line (Even with the good cable gland filco uses).
