Boba Fett key set, or just mandalorian key
« on: Wed, 12 September 2012, 21:54:49 »
I had an idea for a Boba Fett themed key set. I was thinking Yellow keys with Orange text, and Green mods with Red text to pay tribute to the typical Boba Fett color scheme. With the right shades I think it could look nice. I am just unsure if a regular font would look good, or if it would need to be more "Star Wars".

If that is no good then maybe just an engraved key from QWERKeys or a dyesub from somewhere with mandalorian brotherhood image

I don't have time to mock up a full set but here's the single key for a better idea.

This is my inspiration. An original by Mike Maydak. A key set with Orange on green mods and red on yellow main keys might look cool too.

PS: that mock up key looks awesome f/64

Dyesub would be great, but you can't get red on green (or the opposite, green on red) or yellow orange. There's a chance you can do it with orange printing on yellow, but I think that might not turn out great, either.

This is a really great idea, though!

I would love any Star Wars-inspired keys. Actually, it was my interest in Star Wars-modding a keyboard that made me come to this place in the first place.
There were plans to make Imperial and Rebel logos before, but they were thwarted by key companies' reluctancy to print copyrighted images.

QWERKeys will probably do it based on some of the logos and such I've seen for sale there, and even the Lambda Group buy I ran.

I like this idea. I think qwerkeys is really the best way to go for the color combos and their profile doesn't suck. They also don't seem to care much about copyright. I think just a few keys would be good, no interest in a huge set.

Yea we could do Mandalorian raiders, Empire, Republic keys there. Maybe even Jedi and Sith logos as well. Any other factions people might want a key for? It could just be an all encompassing star wars set.

I did it in the red on green color scheme you mentioned just 'cause. That's about as close as I could get to matching Qwerkeys' green body and red infill photos on their site, which of course means nothing.

Can you also do one that uses the colors closest to the ones on his shoulder in the painting? We can do a vote, or get one of each if they look good. It probably just looks good in almost all colors.

I will do that right now; what colors specifically, there's red, white, and an orange?

In the mean time, here's what I was working on, in addition to dinner lol. I left the bottom of the caps white just for depth; I assume this would have to be engraved and lose a lot of detail.

Wow they all look great. Do you mind if I use your mock ups for an interest check?

Of course not, I'm about to hit the sack for today, but if you have any more ideas, just toss 'em out and I'll try to mock 'em up.

Edit:
Here's them all on 1 img. I didn't include the Alderaan/Death Star because I don't really know how it would be done.

If you simplified it up a bit, it MIGHT be possible as a dyesub. The death star would probably have to be just one colour, though

Could you not paint it? There must be some very talented painters/artists here, could you not paint say a black key cap and then coat it in some clear lacquer in order to make it a little more hard wearing?

It could be done I'm sure, but who would want to do 50-100 2 cap sets by hand?

Well if Imsto ever gets his side printing PBT printer to work, we could use a while cap, dye sub on the deathstar and then infill the black space part.

Granted, but I was thinking more along the line of about 15-20 sets. Merely an idea, testing the water so to speak.

I would be interested in a Death Star one for sure. Maybe would be possible to do without the superlaser?
