Rrequest for Cherry clear explanation
« on: Sun, 18 November 2012, 17:14:41 »
Proper keyboard shops don't exist. Not in DC. So... I own a Cherry Mx blue keyboard and have used a Cherry Mx brown board. I've felt reds, too.

Can someone describe clears, in terms of the switches I _have_ tried? Thanks.

They are browns with a larger tactile bump and a higher actuation force

I wonder if CM are going to do a QFR with clears, in the wake of the QFRG.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Do you think clears would be good for gaming? I know everything is personal preference but from what I hear, linear switches work better.

Regular clears are very heavy compared to browns, reds and blues.  A lot of people (including myself) will usually change the spring for a lighter switch aka ergo clears.

So they are like blacks with a bump?

You could probably put a black spring into a clear to effectively get a black with a bump.

If that is your thing.

Just keep in mind that although heavier springs make the overall keys feel heavier, they do slightly take away from the tactile bump. For example, a normal clear switch feels heavy with a small bump, but if you mod it to ergo-clear by using a mx red/blue/brown spring, it will make the switch lighter, but accentuate the tactile bump more. In other words, the bump is more noticeable with a lighter spring than it would be with a heavier spring, even though the same exact stems are used. This goes the same with mx blue and green switches.

I use these (Panda-Clears) in my main Poker.
