WASD quality
« on: Sun, 02 December 2012, 17:29:22 »
I have never bought a WASD custom made keyboard. I am most likely going to buy one of their tenkeyless keyboards once they come out next year but i am curious, can someone tell me about their quality, customer support..etc.? Thanks.

They are one of the BEST customer support companies, their quality is similar to that of Filco, but most importantly, they listen to their community (US!)

To add to the above, their keyboard are made by the same manufacture as filco: Costar.

Yeah heard a lot of awesome things about them.  The only drawback I can think of is price.

Since they only do online sales so it's almost guarantee you have to pay shipping fee unless you live in California.

Plus they have their own vendor forum right here at GH: http://geekhack.org/index.php?board=83.0
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Thanks guys, i appreciate your help. This is a great board where everyone really helps people make a decision about their purchase. I am going to be getting one of those tenkeyless keyboards as soon as they come out. Thanks again.  :)

Once the V2 comes out, to be honest, I'm probably going to sell off my cherry boards and replace them with wasd boards. That V2 is sexy as hell, and I haven't heard a single person complain about one of their boards since they started shipping them.

I've got a V1. The case is not my favorite, especially compared to my Filco. It just feels like there is a lot of unused space in there. Other than that, the quality is quite good. Braided cable with nice, heavy-duty strain relief, Costar stabilizers, great customer service. Beware the brighter-than-the-sun LEDs though!

Oh, Nice. I didn't know that. V2 all the way.

I think I read somewhere here that this issue has been resolved.

I think that is what i am going to do as well. I may keep one of my Quickfire keyboards but i really don't want to keep more than 3 keyboards (4 tops). It's just too expensive.  :(

Yeah it's true, it's pretty much the only complain I'd say.  Overall I like Filco's form factor better as oppose to that weird circular bump at the front of WASD Keyboards.  But good to know they addressed that in their V2  :)

Do the WASDs ping like QFR/Filco?

I have a V1, the only reason I would sell it would be to buy a V2 ^___^

However, since it's my only fullsized board that I have left, it's more than likely going to be coming with me to the office since I don't like doing spread sheets or entering numbers into AutoCAD without a number pad
