unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Not quite. It's an uncommon variant of the Model M which was made specifically for OEM resale.
I can tell you for a fact that that one is legitimate, and was originally sold with a Dell computer. That's the old, old, old Dell logo. Other companies which OEM'd Model M's include AT&T / Bell Laboratories (yes, both), Cube Computers, Lexmark (actual Lexmark branded - two variants), and a scattering of high end manufacturers that bought surplus unbranded.

But yes, that price is totally on drugs. Especially given the condition.

Daily Drivers: Adesso 625 (NPKC PBT / Kailh Blue), Rosewill RK9000V2 (KC PBT / MX Brown), 1994 Model M13, Sun Type4, and the rare IBM 1394540.

A lot of people seem to think any old clicky keyboard is worth a fortune, even if they are so filthy I wouldn't want to touch it.

I've only seen a handful of the Dell variants. I like them, but that's not the price I'd like them at.
