What equipment/tools do you have for keyboards?
« on: Thu, 23 May 2013, 04:11:01 »
When I was first making keyboards myself, I didn't have much equipment.
But now... for me, equipment is a real money pit.
It took all my money.  :(

I'm gonna post them one by one here. ;)

Starting...

Tohnichi Torque Driver 6RTD /w an OHMI H2 HexGON bit in.
I use bits made in Germany or Japan for high quality.

Torque driver helps me fasten bolts with equal torque.
Too much torque can destroy thread made in keyboard case.

Even though I have made/assembled/tuned HUNDREDs of keyboards for others, I myself don't have a full-tuned Custom Keyboard now.
So Ironical!

I'm looking at getting a Hakko 888D station soon with all the other bits that go with it.

Other than that I have a lube station exactly like this (pic stolen from jdcarpe):

I also have some switch top removal tool that I designed, but no pictures currently :|

Looks like you're becoming really active on this forum, GON. Good to see established Korean members migrate over GH :)

That is quite an expensive screw driver. But of course it's just the initial price shock, similar to someone getting their first mechanical keyboard. I would think something like this is only needed for very sensitive torque things like a hard drive, but custom keyboards don't have sensitive screws. This looks more like a luxury item rather than something that's actually needed?

I have a bunch of equipment also. I'll probably take a pic of them all on the table. Or at least just type out a list.

Well, you can adjust torque with your hand. ;)
But I need this, because I use many flat head M3 hexaGON screws which are not strong enough.
If I give it more than 4.5kgf.cm torque, its head/hexa hole begins to deform...
I have to save time. Fastening bolts adjusting torque only with my sense of hand need more time. ;)

As you said, this is a hardcore tool.

We even use H1.5 bolts for some Custom keyboards which need subtle torque adjusting.
