The $299 green keyboard
« on: Sun, 25 August 2013, 21:23:58 »
I apologize if this has already been posted here. I've been lurker of this forum for quite awhile and thought you guys/gals would find this keyboard amusing. Especially the price. I don't understand the price; couldn't anyone make this? Plus it gives no indication of whether this keyboard is of any kind of quality.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Is Filco - is quality.

Green flocking?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Looks like a full-sized Filco in a custom case.  They offer some colors like gold and wood on thekeyboard.co site: this could be one like it.  An example:

That is because it's got a weird velvety moss-like texture on it. Looks kinda neat, but no way I'd pay $300 for that. JPs are weird, yo.

they charge double more the original price because the case is painted green? They never learn, how about $400 for full body aluminum?

electrostatic flocking with lawn like material if google translate is to be believed.

amusing note at the bottom -  ※ Please note that it may fall out during use.

sounds like a bad idea unless someone's going to get one to put on display. maybe water it a few times every now and then.

When I hear the word "green keyboard" I think of a keyboard that is made in an environmentally friendly way. Too bad that this is not it.

that's probably the greatest strength of this keyboard.

you can spill coffee, coke, water or even pee on it while drunk. And the keyboard gets better instead! (more grass grows out and turns into a wristrest.
