Asian Ducky tkl
« on: Fri, 30 August 2013, 11:11:04 »
Hey guys, sorry if this was asked before but i couldn't find any information about it. I was looking into getting a Ducky dk9087 as my first mech and i saw this link: (http://global.pchome.com.tw/english/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DCAH0X-A70702660&SR_NO=SBAE3W&ROWNO=6&tm=e). I was wondering if there was any difference between the functionality of the Asian one and the full English one (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=168). The only difference are the keys right (excluding switches)? But for all normal purposes it's the same?

Same model so, there should be no difference.

Only difference is in the legends on the keycaps. OS does not know what is printed on the keycap, only how many keys there are to assign to whatever regional keyboard layout you have active.

Ivan, is that true of all keyboards? So if I buy a German layout keyboard, but swap the keycaps for US-ANSI and use the keyboard on a Windows-US layout, will it work normally?
(As you can guess, I have been asking you lately about German-made Cherrys.)
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

Yes. Sometimes I will roll with other languages like German, Swiss or even French keycaps set for lols, but I don't change my keymapping in the OS. Keyboard sends a scancode, the OS assigns a meaning to that scancode with keyboard layout. The keycap legends are irrelevant if you don't have the matching keymapping loaded.
Right now you could go change your keymap to German and on your US ANSI keyboard if you type the [ key you will get the Ü.
