Hadron - need help deciding on underglow setup
« on: Mon, 01 May 2017, 22:19:40 »
Need some feedback from you guy!

I have been working on the revision to the hadron keyboard (original post), and thought, why not add integrated underglow?

I had some extra SK6812MINI strip sitting around so added it to the ver0 to see how it would look, here is the result:

so...question:

should I go for just a strip near the front of the board like this:

or extend the spacing between the RGB and have it spread out evenly on the bottomside (4 in front, 4 in back)?

thought process so far:

strip:
+ less dark regions in the front
+ PCB design already done :P
- no glow on the back and sides

spread out:
+ more even lighting on all sides
+ helps me OCD
- no way to fit on near the MCU, no space let for one
- Night Rider animation looks weird

In my opinion, if you move the strip to the front you will loose the light all the way back(for someone might be a 'problem' :D ). I would try moving four LEDs in the corners and add 4 more evenly distributed for the rest and see how it will work. I like the current one looks strange but nice after all :)

Looks quiet even :) If I were you I would try placing the leds on something like PVC panel with the size of the PCB and power them up so see how it will look. This way you will have actual view of how it will glow :)
