^not surprising really

the purpose of a cherry red is to 'not exist.' it's the zero feedback switch (no resistance, no bump, no sound).

if you like topre, it's cause you WANT feedback of a very specific sort.

Fast Typers like cherry red, they feel that the feedback from browns or blues slow them down

^ That's not necessarily true. One of the world's fastest typists, Sean Wrona used a Cherry MX Blue keyboard for a while (not sure what he uses now, though).

^ On his website, he states that he uses Blues. I just don't see any 110+ typists (on 10FF at least) using anything but Blues or Browns.

It varies. The general consensus is that elite typists use MX Blue (Sean Wrona and most at his speed do as well).
I'm not near his speed (only low-140's best), but I think that Blues are infinitely better. Whoever tells you that tactility distracts from typing is definitely incorrect, because good typists get used to the mid-press bump and reset their fingers faster. Accuracy is, in all cases that I've heard, improved with Blues. Some can get higher raw speed, but there are so many more errors that the overall speed is much lower. If you want typing, Blue>Brown>Red>Black (not including rarer switches).

All of the fastest typists bottom out though...apparently you claim you don't at 130-140..I'd l really like to see that....At slower speeds I can see it...and I can see only losing some speed in doing it..but not bottoming out completely?  Nope...I'd love to see it though..it would be something to work towards...

You're wrong. Typing without bottoming out greatly increases speed, and any good typist (including myself, if I may have the hubris of implying thus).

And here's a video of me typing at 135:
You may notice that I don't bottom out often, until I start stiffening up and getting slower because of carpal tunnel.

If you want to doubt what I can do, fine, but just know that you trying to excuse bad typing technique by making false claims is laughable. Also please type correctly, using commas rather than three periods without a space afterwards, it makes you seem extremely slow in thought. Just because you type one way and think that it's good doesn't mean that it's proper, and nor does it mean that you calling me out will not get you embarrassed.

By the way, the whole point of a mechanical keyboard is to not bottom out. You don't type any faster than on a dome keyboard if you don't bottom out, because you completely lose the benefit of not having to press as far.

these people TRAIN to type fast right?  as in theytype to get faster at typing, not necessarily to do productive work.

if that is the case, I think they would have different typing patterns than regular typists.  they would train themselves to feel the bump and consciously reset, even though this is both mentally tiring and physically 'complex'.

I don't see how that's trolling at all.
I've asked many people when I was trying to get better, when I was sub-110. They all told me that (using MX Brown) it was pointless to bottom out, because you're just forcing it. A mechanical has absolutely no advantage over a rubber dome if you can't use it like it's supposed to be. The idiots who smash their boards and wonder why their speeds are so low on a mechanical fall victim to this.

Honestly though, I don't understand what your problem with my post is. I gave him the evidence that he wanted (me typing at 130-140), my profile, and everything. So unless something else is the matter?

You're most definitely bottoming out....it even sounds like it...watch Wrona type...watch those typing competitions..they're all bottoming out..as do you...

And this coming from the guy that has an opinion on every keyboard but has tried almost none of them?  I'm not 130+wpm fast but I'm 120+wpm fast...which is perfectly fine with me....and I'm still using QWERTY..

Yes, I'm calling you out..and you proved my point..you bottom out..thanks for proving yet again, that people do bottom out when they're going for speed.  So who is embarrassed?  Not I...thanks again for allowing me to body slam.

I don't bottom out often. Probably about 20-30% of the time, which is good enough for me for the saved effort. Wrona bottoms out a lot and slams keys, he's fine, because his mind is miles ahead of ours, but most people get better by learning better technique and practicing, which is something that Sean bypassed with being a BA.
If you can't even type out proper posts, I doubt that you can type over 120.

You bottom out quite often..again, you said you don't bottom out...and I've said, you can't get at that speed and not bottom out.  Who made the false statement?  You only proved my point....

And because I use "...." which I've been doing in posts probably longer than you've been alive, that is a reflection on how fast I type?  Seriously, if I was interested in getting faster I'd used a different layout that I know works better (see how you rarely move from home row with DVORAK?) but I'm pretty happy with where I'm at...I don't need anymore speed...Just as you're happy with your speed and bottoming out more often than you think but not on every stroke...

So hows the Topre stuff you have an opinion on but have never touched?  Or PBT keycaps which you seem to have an opinion about what is better but have never actually used?
What? BOOM.

At what point do you guys realize that Linkbane is simply trolling you? Best to simply ignore his obnoxiousness. He is better off arguing with himself, as in his eyes, he can be the only
correct one, and regardless of logic pointed out to him, will continue in his blatant ignorance.

He brings nothing of value to any discussion that I have seen thus far.

If feels overrated.

You must be really bored to keep spreading your "disappointment" about Topre switches in every related thread.

God.... Agreed. He is like this:

And why is offering an opposing view to a question of how something feels a bad thing? This isn't a "I love Topre" thread. The OP asked a specific question. Not every answer should be that it's amazing.

With that being said, I think it feels pretty nice. Not OH MY GOD amazing.

More than anything, I appreciate the HHKB more than Topre itself. The layout and form factor are pretty amazing. I didn't think I would ever be able to, let alone, want to use a 60% board.

It was thoughtful?  Because someone does this? "..." that is thoughtful?  Not only that be he was factually wrong..

Again, show us typing where you're not bottoming out at 130+wpm and I'll say that person is right...I haven't seen it..I don't think people can do it...when you're typing for speed, you will bottom out..maybe not every time but you will bottom out..often...

Then it changes to "oh...well with 30% bottoming out"..it was actually more than that but it doesn't matter...

I'm not sure how my question got posed to whether I think someone can type whatever WPM they're claiming to..no reason to not believe them..This is a keyboard forum, I'm sure plenty of people type fast on here....

Bro Caps still holds a grudge after I made fun of his selling of a CC for somewhere around the $400 range.
Polymer, it's honestly a waste of time trying to convince someone who is assured that they are correct. Good luck getting any faster typing, keep on hammering those keys.
And thimplum, sorry for having to go keyboard warrior on every thread. It's annoying that every time someone disagrees with me, Bro Caps has to drop off in the thread and inflate his ego by insulting me. Just going to do the sane thing and block him.

Closing remarks, bottoming out =/= fast typing. I've already disproved your point by not always bottoming out as you say that all fast typists do, so I don't know what else there is to argue. Bro Caps is the most annoying troll that I've ever had the misfortune to meet, who finds interest in stalking threads that I post in, making completely OT posts so that he can 'get at' me.

I don't want to take sides in this pointless debate, but I must point out this:

It seems to me that you are the one that has issues with everyone else, not visa-versa.  BroCaps is a (reasonably) well respected member of the community, and has been here for years before you showed up.  Now all of the sudden HE is the troll?  Sorry, don't think so...

Not to mention that you have already had several conflicts with many other forum members (myself included).  And again, you blame everyone else for these altercations instead of manning up and admitting that you're wrong.  If you were right, people would tend to agree with your statement(s).

Final key point: your opinions aren't the same as everyone else's, so don't force them onto people as though they are undisputed facts.

*End rant*

ALWAYS bottoming out is not bottoming out on every keystroke.. It means you bottom out while typing but obviously some of it won't be if you're typing fast enough... YOU bottom out while typing fast...Fact.  I can see how you mis-read it..but it doesn't make sense that I'd argue that every single keystroke hits bottom because that doesn't happen...it isn't a logical argument to make or a good one..which is why I didn't make it..but you thought I did...

Show me a fast typist that does not bottom out (you bottom out) and I'll agree it can exist...Until then, fact remains..fastest typists all bottom out when typing for speed.  I'd even say if they only bottom out 1-2% of the time, that is pretty darn good.  Your theory of the fastest typers and proper form is not bottoming out hasn't held water..not one person on GH has shown it does....Wrona, all of the competitors all bottom out.

Here's what I said originally btw:
"
All of the fastest typists bottom out though...apparently you claim you don't at 130-140..I'd l really like to see that....At slower speeds I can see it...and I can see only losing some speed in doing it..but not bottoming out completely?  Nope...I'd love to see it though..it would be something to work towards..

That's a cool story, bro. The fact is, you provide no value to any discussion on these threads, you ride the **** of our most famous trolls (ones that are actually good at it), and speak from the least knowledgeable standpoints.

Wut da fk
Just some old post about one comparing *ahem* keyboard to penis erection, I thought it might be a worthy joke to say that it doesn't stay like that forever (in terms of male genitalia). Though there was a thread about Topre's rubber dome wearing out anyway (after like about five years worth of use).

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
